Farah back on track for Origin opener

Wests Tigers skipper and NSW vice-captain Robbie Farah is back training and could yet be fit for State of Origin I after dislocating his elbow.

Injured NSW Blues hooker Robbie Farah is on course to return earlier than expected and to play in the rugby league State Of Origin series opener.

Farah was initially given little chance of playing against Queensland in game one in Brisbane on May 28 after dislocating his elbow in round six.

But, having previously done some weights and running work, Farah had his first field session back with his Wests Tigers club on Monday.

Wests Tigers coach Mick Potter praised Farah's professional approach to his rehab, which could result in him playing against Cronulla on May 17, in the final round of NRL games before the NSW Origin team is chosen.

"He might be able to trim a week off (his recovery time)," said Potter after watching Farah in Monday's session.

"That would be nice for perhaps even NSW and it would be nice for him to be back for the first State of Origin.

"He's a player that leaves no stone unturned with his rehab and I'm really pleased where he's at right now."

Wests Tigers centre Chris Lawrence was certain Farah would be right to play in the first Origin encounter.

"I'll put money he'll be right for Origin I," Lawrence said.

"Knowing the way Robbie is and how much it means to him to play State of Origin, he'll definitely be right for that.

"He's done everything possible, so if there's a chance he can be back against the Sharks it would have been down to all his hard work.

"From the first day he did (the injury), he's done everything by the book to try and get back as quick as possible."

Lawrence acknowledged the Tigers' depth would be tested this week against reigning premiers Sydney Roosters, with Farah and exciting young fullback James Tedesco still injured.

"It's going to be a chance for our young guys to come up and show what they've got," Lawrence said.

He expected Roosters prop Jared Waerea-Hargreaves to fire up after his shock omission from the New Zealand side.

"When you are left out of a rep side, you've definitely got a point to prove," Lawrence said.

"He's come out and said he would have loved to have played (in the Test) so I'm sure he'll be in for a big game."

Any chance v the Roosters ??

Or are Tigers going to write that one off

I personally don't think they will risk him this week but I reckon he'll play against the Sharks.

The season is long, even with Farah we prob would do it tough to beat a Roosters side playing near their best ATM. In the next 2 to 3 weeks we get back most/all of our injured players apart from Moltzen.

So Teddy, Sue, Gavet, Sirro, Anasta, Simona, ( suspended ATM ) & Deano are all back and gives us a real crack for the 2nd half of the season ( hopefully injury free please ) going towards the finals.

There's just no point ATM risking Farrah on a game we prob will lose. That extra week will have him right for the sharks hopefully.

This week I'd be throwing in Lulia in the centres, Koro on the wing, & Nofo back to fullback. Patterson on the bench or starting and do our best. Hopefully the roosters will miss maloney & jennings more than we miss our current injured crop.

You never know, in a 2 horse race we might surprise ourselves.

so really what most are saying is make sure Robbie is right for SOO, bugger his employers and us tiger supporters, just be right for the SOO. The same must be said when gallen got injured most only care if he got back for SOO not when he would be back for the sharks. We at the tigers don't have a lot of really great game breakers but Robbie is one and the tigers need him more the SOO.

thats pretty soft

Thank god, NSW NEED him.

If J Reynolds is the 5/8th, which hopefully he is, the two of them will be the heart and soul of NSW. The most passionate guys there.
