Wests Tigers skipper Robbie Farah has taken aim at club management over their poor recruitment and retention strategies.
Wests’ approach to player management has been one of the key reasons behind their fall from grace as a NRL powerhouse and that was again highlighted on Friday night when a number of ex-Tigers starred in the Cronulla Sharks’ win over their former club.
Barnstorming NSW Origin prop Andrew Fifita constantly terrorised the Tigers defence in a man-of-the-match effort in the 36-22 victory and he was ably supported by his former teammates at the joint venture Bryce Gibbs and Chris Heighington as all three players ran for over 100m.
While one-time prized recruit Adam Blair again struggled for the Tigers making just five hit-ups and 38m in 80 minutes.
Winger Beau Ryan is another former Tiger who has prospered at the Sharks but sat out the match with a leg injury.
Farah described the Tigers’ approach to player retention as “ridiculous” and said it needed to be vastly improved.
