Farah to fight on despite pain

Injured Wests Tigers captain Robbie Farah has been given the all clear to push through the pain barrier in Saturday's NRL clash against Penrith at CUA Stadium.

Scans this week revealed Farah had suffered ligament damage to his elbow but doctors advised him on Thursday he is at no great risk of aggravating the injury.

The Tigers hooker conceded he will be playing in some pain but has ruled out the use of pain killers and said he will have his elbow heavily strapped.

"It's one of those things that will be a bit uncomfortable but I'm willing to push through it and keep going at the moment," he said.

The NSW State of Origin rake said he was not contemplating sitting out any games in the future unless the injury became unbearable.

"If it does get to a point where I'm struggling out there and letting the team down, I'll sit out in the weeks ahead," he said.

"But at this stage we're willing to go out there and just plug away.

"We're not looking at any time for me to rest it in the near future."

With injuries to key players such as halfback Robert Lui, winger Taniela Tuiaki and fullback Tim Moltzen, ruled out for the season, the Tigers could hardly afford to lose Farah.

Coach Tim Sheens supported the 26-year-old's decision to play, saying he wouldn't have let him if he had any concerns it would risk ruling him out for a much longer period.

The Tigers have made one of their best starts to an NRL season with four wins from six games and are looking to turn around last week's loss to the Bulldogs.

Sheens said they could not afford to needlessly let one of their few fit playmakers sit out a match.

"We lost last week and we really wanted to commit to working hard not to lose back to back games," he said.

"Back to back games can really put a dent in you."

FARAH TO PACK DOWN WITH GALLOWAY AGAINST PANTHERS

A ligament elbow injury will not prevent Wests Tigers Captain Robbie Farah from trying to help his side get back on track against Penrith Panthers at CUA Stadium this Saturday night.
>
Farah injured the left elbow in the 30th minute in the loss to the Bulldogs last Friday night. Coach Tim Sheens has named Chris Corby – who played hooker for the Wests Tigers U20s team last season – on a six man bench for the round seven Telstra Premiership clash.
>
Farah trained with the team at Concord Oval this afternoon with his elbow strapped. He is confident he will get through the match after club doctor Donald Kuah informed the hooker he can’t do any more harm to the injury by playing on.
>
“It is just one of those things, it might be a little bit uncomfortable but I am willing to push through it and keep going,’’ Farah said.
>
“We are down in troops at the moment, particularly in key positions. It is a pretty critical time.
>
“There are two ways to look at it. I can rest it and make sure it gets 100 per cent. It is going to take a few weeks rest to get it back to full strength.
>
“Strength isn’t a problem for me, it will just be a little uncomfortable.
>
“I just want to help the club out and consolidate on what has been a good start to the year.”
>
“The doc told me that it can’t get any worse. I won’t be playing with pain killers at this stage. I will try to avoid that, just strap it up and it should be sweet
>
“If it does get to a point where I am struggling out there and I realise I am letting the team down, I will sit out, not during the game, but in the weeks ahead.
>
“I will speak to the coach and take the time off. At this stage, we are willing to go out there and plug away.
>
“It is not just about trying to get through this game, it is about going forward into the year as well. We are not looking at any time for me to rest it in the near future.
>
“There are a lot of players out there playing with little niggling injuries and this is just going to be one of those uncomfortable things that I’m going to have to put up with. Hopefully I won’t have to rest it and I can keep getting through the games.”
>
Coach Tim Sheens said he would not let Farah play if he could do more harm to the elbow.
>
“The doctor is comfortable with him playing but he will be inconvenienced,’’ Sheens said.
>
“He is captain and he knows this is an important part of our season. He finished the game playing with it last week and that’s always a plus. He is a tough kid.
>
“We lost last week and we really want to commit to working hard not to lose back to back games.
>
“Losing back to back games can really put a dent in you. We are not kidding ourselves. Penrith are at their best and we are not quite there. We want to go out there with the right attitude.”
>
Wests Tigers will welcome back prop Keith Galloway for the Panthers match after he overcame a shoulder injury.
>
"It will be great to have Keith back. He has been in great form and he can really dominate up front,'' Farah said.
>
Wests Tigers will be searching for just its third win at CUA Stadium.
>
In nine matches at CUA Stadium since the joint venture began in 2000, Penrith have recorded seven wins to Wests Tigers’ two. The last time Wests Tigers won at CUA Stadium was in 2006, a 24-20 victory.
>
The Panthers have proven to be a real bogey side for Wests Tigers, having won 13 of their 17 clashes since 2000, a factor not lost on coach Tim Sheens.
>
“We have overcome Parramatta and Manly in the last 12 months to win games we never have been able to win, so we have to get up for the Penrith game,’’ Sheens said.

I hate to spoil the party here guys, but I don't think having Farah out for a few weeks would be a bad thing. He has so much talent but ATM I just don't think he's playing to the form he showed 2-3 years ago. He's not playing the percentages, not showing much faith in whoever the halfback may be (moltzen or lazarus) and isn't showing a great deal of leadership if you ask me.

He's not thinking before he does things i.e the brain explosion he had when he kicked for Marshall on the first tackle just after we'd defended our guts out and seemingly forced an error! I really think we need to have faith in whoever the halfback to be our main general play kicker and unfortunately we haven't had any since Scott Prince.

good to see Robbie playing.
last thing we want is for robbie to get a needle.
if he does get needle for it, hope it does not turn out like the needle in hip fiasco.

How do you know that was farahs idea. I think it would have been benji's actually. It would have worked too if benji wasn't tackled without the ball.

But he's not fit.

dont know about this when he hit it agaisnt the dogs he wasnt the same for the rest of the game and had nothing and it showed

I really wish farah would not play, and let his injury heal. I think the tigers might be able to win the game without him (forever the optimist), but more importantly I dont think we can win the premiership without him, so take the time off and get it right. Sometimes his passion is too much for his own good. It is this pride in the club that does make him captain material.
