Farahs mum has passed away

I don't mean this to sound flippant but I found it almost poetic that Robbie's mother was 63 - the same number of tackles Robbie made in the origin game that was such a pinnacle for him. It just struck me that it was almost an accidental tribute to someone who was obviously such a big influence to Robbie as a person and a player.

My thoughts go out to the Farahs - I know from personal experience how hard these things are.

It's not flippant, Yoss. I read in an article earlier this arvo that Robbie himself picked up on that and sent a text to Elias saying how poetic it was and that each tackle was for each year of her life or something similar.

Yesterday’s loss was so much more than a game of footy – it was one of the Wests Tigers proudest moments. This wasn’t about the score, this was about spirit. It was an afternoon when Anthony Minichiello pulled off the most incredible one-on-one strip ever seen on a runaway Ben Murdoch-Masila and Martin Kennedy, Frank-Paul Nu’uausala and Jared Waerea-Hargreaves played their annual blinders.

It was an afternoon when Benji Marshall broke down during a minute’s silence dedicated to Sonia Farah and Adam Blair played the worst game of his career. All this, and the Roosters still needed 12 points on the stroke of half time and six at full time to put the Tigers away. While their bodies were willing, the players’ minds were firmly fixed on an inspirational club captain who had made State of Origin history just days earlier.

Look no further than Beau Ryan’s runaway try in the second half that sent the crowd into a frenzy. One of the form wingers in the NRL, Ryan raced more than 50 metres to score, but there was no celebration. The trademark head pat and logo slap were replaced by a cold stare – almost a look of guilt. Tim Moltzen gave a similar reaction when he scored minutes later.

The Tigers didn’t want to play a game of footy yesterday, and who could blame them.

Beautifully put One Eyed Tiger this was only a game of footy, there will be other days to win, this was just not it. Heartfelt condolences to the Farah family

At least it is a beautiful day for the funeral …. Would be even worse if it was a day like last week.
Probably see something on the news tonight.

Thinking of Robbie today. Good luck champ.

I know exactly what he is going through today. My father passed away to pancreatic cancer almost 2 years ago. What he would of went through the last couple of days is hard. I felt numb for the days after and today will be the hardest day of his life.

R.I.P Mrs Farah.

Gees, I hope we don't see too much on the news. Can you imagine Robbie and his family having their service for Sonia and then having a dozen cameras shoved in their faces. This does not need to be a public spectacle!

NEARLY 1000 mourners paid their respects to Robbie Farah's mother, Sonia, at an emotional service in Croydon today.

The entire Wests Tigers team and a host of NRL identities joined the family to farewell Sonia, who succumbed to her long battle with pancreatic cancer on Sunday morning.

Blues coach Ricky Stuart, skipper Paul Gallen, NSW premier Barry O'Farrell and swimming legend Dawn Fraser were all among the extraordinary turn-out, which spilled into the carpark of St Joseph's Maronite Catholic Church.

Along with his four siblings, Farah contributed to the eulogy with recollections of his mother's cooking and complete devotion to the family.

He also carried the casket with his brothers to and from the hearse.

He was by her side when she passed away at Concord Hospital and was forced to withdraw from playing duties that afternoon.

His team mates have been given much of the week off to grieve and must now turn their attention back to football ahead of Monday night's clash against Newcastle.

Farah has been named in the side, but coach Tim Sheens will wait until later in the week to confirm his availability.
