As if I was already gutted enough

We should of won that game

Huge turning point at the 67 th minute

Oar decides to pass instead of shoot and the Dutch come down and score

Tim Cahill if that is your last game in the Australian jersey ,thanks for the memories You are a champion ,great strike tonight

Australian football is in good hands , Ange deserves a medal Lets just hope in the near future we can find a world class striker

Oar was alright to pass. It just had to be on the ground or higher in the air so Leckie could head it. Those mid-drift balls are the worst balls to give on a football field.

I too am gutted. Both games we could have won and we have played some good football too.

Cahill is immense for the national team and he's hanging around to play in the Asian Cup next year.

Such a tough one to swallow, we definitely deserved something out of the game. These young guys have done a decent job over there though, and definitely deserve a result against Spain (we've been far better than they have). In the end it was just the class in the Dutch side that got them home.

It's a shame we can't progress beyond the group, but it was always going to be a very tall order.

If we were in virtually any other group we'd have two wins to our name and would be progressing.

The lads stood up. Leckie, Davidson & Oar will be better for the run and we'll be able to mount a far more serious challenge next time. Need better centre backs but anything can happen in four years and Spiranovic and Wilkinson could always improve. Best news is that there'll be some interest around our kids and hopefully some big European clubs come sniffing. It would be a great outcome for both the player and the national side. It's a good shot in the arm for the A-League as well.

Bear in mind this a new, young side and these guys are spread across about a dozen leagues at all corners of the planet. Most serious contenders for the title have the bulk of their players play in the same league (Germany, Italy, France, Dutch, Brazil.) It's amazing that not only have this young side played well, but formed such cohesion so quickly given they all bring something different to the team.

The weight on it was the only reason Leckie could chest it to the keeper. The ball just had to be on the ground so he could side foot it in or higher in the air to head it in.

What were we all saying about Costa Rica

LOL at us experts

Even bigger LOL at England though

Yeah England not making it past the group stage is a shock IMO
Then again with five Liverpool players in the team the choke was on !

Tim Cahill to be playing for Sydney FC next season. Will see plenty more of him as he still has plenty to give and has Australian soccer at heart. Hope I'm wrong and he goes to Western Sydney.

They've turned over half their side, as if Cahill would go there without knowing who he'd play with?

Timmy has always looked good in blue.

SFCTID

England will be joined by Uruguay or Italy in a few days. I just hope they cop a loss to Costa Rica on their way out.

I am a huge Cahill fan, so it would make me gag if I see him in a SFC jersey. I think he'll stay with the Red Bulls for another season.

Have always reckoned that three sides in particular play to a different set of rules than all other teams in a world cup. Italy, Germany and Brazil will never have 50\50 decisions go against them. The non penalty against the azzuri today was an absolute joke and solo typical of officials too gutless or perhaps some other reason, to make crucial decisions. And don't get me started about 2006 and socceroos v Italy. Cmon Uruguay and saurez, send the azzuri back to Rome.

A side note on England, a really telling thing this cup has been the national anthems. Sides like Brazil, Germany, Colombia, Ivory Coast and Uruguay have been belting out the national anthems with a great deal of pride, the English team though, half of them wouldn't have going above a whisper. It seems like there isn't as much pride for them representing their country, and once the whistle blows, they seem more like 11 individuals than a team.

After watching the Yanks play Portugal in the space of 45 seconds you see the good and the bad of Ronaldo. He sets up the equaliser with a pin point cross in the last minute of stoppage time, then when the full time whistle goes he makes a beeline for the tunnel, without shaking hands with a single player. Poor form. The Portuguese are one foot out the door though, and will need to make up a 5 goal difference on the Americans to go through (assuming the USA v Germany game goes the right way to begin with).

Pity you think that way…... If you had any idea about football without the typical aussie tall poppy syndrome...,
You would envy the top three teams you mentioned, as statistic show year after year after year those teams are elite and to become elite is hard work and effort and part of there DNA, pity you dont have it...

To a degree nothing that has happened so far means a great deal

The cream will rise to the top when it matters

Argentina are steaming under the radar

lol, obviously my twenty tears of coaching successful football sides is nowhere near your expertise or knowledge of football. however, tall poppy syndrome .. the only so-called ' tall poppy ' for want of better description at this world cup were spain, whose play and skill has been admired by all over the past six years or so and who regretably and unfortunately were ' cut down '.

I tend to think of the azzuri, because of their undoubted diving ability, as ground hugging creepers rather than tall poppies.

further to my comments about preferential treatment to certain countries by officials and among a litany of examples this one stands out.

no cards or free kicks for this one by the german goalkeeper in a past world cup semi final v france, which Germany went onto win in a penalty shoot-out.

Another World Cup done and dusted for the Australians

Am I being to harsh but watching our side is like watching the Australian Gymnastics team at the Olympics

We seem 4 years behind in the development and skills of the top countries

When we lose Bresciano and Cahill I am concerned we won't even qualify for the World Cup

We lack genuine finishing class

Then again I'm shocked we got 4 goals at this WC
