Fifita

Not for a second doubting his running game, but jeez Fifita's numbers must be boosted by being third or fourth man in for tackles. I missed the first half (luckily), but watching the second half all I really noticed was him coming in when the tackle was pretty much complete and throwing his weight on top to slow the play the ball. Also a few near-crusher tackles, seems to be intent to use his gut in every way possible. Again, can't knock his running, and his cover on Nofo was a great effort, but a lot of late ins that might pad his stats.

His a man on a mission when he plays against us. I don't blame him Sheens treated him like dirt instead of realising his back then obvious talent. :bash

I thought the same thing whilst watching, he does a lot of flopping in his tackles. He's not much of a defender 1-1, but he is quick in a straight line for a big guy.

I dont blame the club for letting him go. He just was not putting in for us back then. Very similar to Ben Teo. Some players just need a change of surroundings and team mates to get the best out of them. Both the players I have mentioned have sprouted since leaving us and have earned themselves SOO rep jumpers….seems like a tragic loss for the club, however neither were having a go for us and certainly looked to be wasting their obvious potentials.

Sometimes in recruitment for any job, sh#t happens.....

Still must ask the question ,why players that leave the Tigers seem to go onto better things

The only player that's excelled since leaving is Fifita. The other players you mentioned really havent done anything. Laffranchi went on to SOO but he always wanted to leave so he could be closer to home, there was nothing else anyone could do about that. DeGois had to leave because of Farah and has been average at best. Hodgson, Richards and Chase have excelled in a competition that is NSW Cup standard. The others have been pretty bland IMHO.

I dont know about anyone else but I am so over hearing people cry about how we were dumb to let Fifita go. It's happened, time to get over it and move on. I'm just over hearing about it everyday.

You need to remember some of these players were stuck behind existing good players and didn't get much of a run because of that eg de gois, everingham, Ryan..
Also in fairness a number of players you have mentioned played with us in their early playing days… Of course they will get better as they progress through their careers... We can't keep them all....
Ones that went overseas shouldn't rate a mention as they left for a pay day and play in a sub standard comp... A good example of that is manu who did nothing at the next two clubs he went to in the nrl after us before going overseas and doing somewhat better there...
Rhino's stats are slightly up this year yes, most likely because he actually has to play well to get a spot in the squad at his new club..

I'm not having a dig at you, it is just frustrating to hear people complain (not directed at you, general comment) about players we have let go. Every club has to let go of players and just like us most of them that they let go continue to do no good at other clubs and some that they let go do better at the new club. It is a reality of the modern game. One of the things I have always valued at the tigers is their stance on contracts.. They have always made it very clear that if a player could get a better deal at another club which would suit the player more they would not stand in the way of that player... At the end of the day the players need to go where they will get game time and can increase their wage to maximize their earning potential throughout a relatively short lived career...

Agree 100% with this…

I still feel our poorest retention mistake was not upping our offer to keep Scott Prince at the club. He was our foundation, and an integral part of the machine which saw us the best attacking machine in the comp. At the time, we should've offered him $1M to stay (maybe not so high back then?)

Another Prop will come along, and another club will try and poach them!

watch teflon tim deflect this question when fifita gets picked in the world cup team .

Probably should of made my point better , but what I was trying to say is other clubs find a way of keeping the players they want to keep , why can't we do the same ??

Thats true just move on thats the mistake we did but now we have to look for the future there will be lots of gun players that are going to come from the under 20s in years to come.

because our accountants are crap!

the Fifita brothers have left the building - Andrew is the one on the left with the Elvis outfit. he's a star now. his brother David still has a chance. he just has to learn to stay on the horse. David's the one with the cowboy outfit on the right. it seems they come and go together. It's a package deal. And we are still paying Sheens. He should be brought to justice and be fined for letting Fifita go. Arguably the best prop in the world at the moment.
