LIVE GAME Finals week III

Live Game Discussion
I don’t expect Madge has changed his coaching style too much in these past years, so the results he has achieved since leaving us say more about our group of players and our club than they do about his coaching.
So you can be an International team winning coach, a SOO winning coach, and an NRL grand finalist coach but unless you have the right squad of players you can suck for seasons at a club with a poor track record.
Reminds me of Bennett at Newcastle and even Madge in his ensuing years with Souths after their premiership win, not just with us.

Broncs came back in both finals when Raiders and Panthers continually dropped the pill and turned over posession in the second half.
Storm won't do that and will win comfortably.
I thought both Raiders and Panthers just couldn’t stay with the Bronco’s power game for the full 80? Can’t see Storm, even considering they’ve had an extra couple of days to freshen up, being any different.
Madge’s coaching appears to be working?

Penrith missed luai all year
if Munster and Hughes stay fit all game, mel turned should be just too strong

Have not read this whole thread, however I did notice that they tried to expose the right edge defence of the Broncos in that second half all to no avail. I do believe if they had Luai there he would have probably led to a try or two for the panthers. Cleary was playing the dominant half role on both sides of the field and basically overplayed his hand, especially in the second half when they were attacking the broncos line for multiple back to back sets. Cleary started getting too cute with his short kicking game and Blaize was basically MIA. For me that loss is on Cleary, they had plenty of chances to ice that game and didn't, including not taking the 2 points on multiple occasions in the second half which would have probably won them the game or at worst taken it to golden point.

Don’t know if this has been already raised ?
Who called McLean off side when he got the intercept ?
(Not much in it)

Clearly on replay it wasn’t the ref,
If it was the linesman fair enough if that’s what they normally do ?

I’m hoping it wasn’t the bunker getting involved as that would open another can of worms.

There would be players offside on every play the ball that the ref’s don’t see and don’t get penalised.

That was a huge game changer.

To me it looked like it was either the linesman or bunker who called him offside. The ref didn't immediately call it which suggests he didn't make the decision.

Matty Johns said it was the linesman

That was an ordinary call as I don't think him being offside actually impacted the play...it was marginal in any case. As others have stated I think you could pick an offside player 90% of the time when the play the ball is within 10m of the tryline. I'm just glad the Penrith run is ended, I'm not a fan of the broncs however I was keen to see them get up...especially after that performance by Payne Haas...what a player being an ex #8 I am just in awe of his stamina, agility and footy smarts.

The ref on Sunday was Grant Atkins.

- he's from Penrith.
- Penrith district refereeing hall of fame / life member.
- I saw it mentioned he was married to Ivan's sister but this information has been scrubbed from the internet. So unsure how true it is.

Both those teams were flogging the pants off the Broncs and then started playing sloppy footy which let them back in.
I think Melbourne will be too experienced to do that.
