Finch makes excuses for scrum

Sheens argued yesterday the Tigers should have been playing the ball on zero tackles after Simon Dwyer's monster hit on Roosters forward Jared Waerea-Hargreaves. **Dwyer regathered the ball after Waerea-Hargreaves lost control**, and was subsequently tackled by two Roosters players. Time was called to a halt while Waerea-Hargreaves was tended to by medical staff, only for play to be restarted with a scrum - which ended with Frank-Paul Nuuausala miraculously pilfering the ball.
>
**''There shouldn't have been a scrum in the first place,'' Sheens said. ''The call should have been play on. I think he [Waerea-Hargreaves] lost control of the ball before he hit the ground. He [Dwyer] picked it up for zero tackle - it was play on.''**
>
Sheens said officials had admitted a mistake to him after the referees had ruled a scrum in extra time in the golden-point loss to South Sydney in round 22 - after Rabbitohs five-eighth John Sutton damaged his shoulder and lost control of the ball.
>
**Referees' boss Robert Finch defended the decision, saying the officials had ruled that the tackle was complete before Waerea-Hargreaves had lost control of the ball.**
>
''There was an injured player on the ground, and a tackle was complete,'' Finch said. ''Waerea-Hargreaves … lost the ball on the ground. I could show you a squillion other ones like that. It's a scrum every time. When the referee deems that the tackle is complete, he starts the game with a scrum.''
>
With Dwyer yesterday cleared of any illegality in the tackle, Sheens also maintained the contentious scrum should either have been repacked, or the Roosters should have been penalised.

34th second in slow motion…

Sheens is correct.
Finch is a blatent liar.
You can clearly see the ball pop out before Hargraves' back hits the turf.Tackle is INCOMPLETE. PLAY ON idiots!!

We were frekin ROBBED…..

And the Ref's boss justifies it.....

And Wests Tigers supporters think they will admit they stuffed it up AGAIN>>>>>

How could the tackle have been completed if JWH didn't even fall to the ground when he lost the ball. Clearly he was in mid-air when he lost the ball. Oh wait, so you can surrender in mid- air??

Watched the clip, my exact sentiments. most noticeable in slow motion. A travesty of a decision.

It wasn't even a proper tackle…let alone a "completed" tackle...
It was a shoulder charge..

And to make matters worse, it went to the video ref to check the tackle, so he would have seen the same video and still ruled a scrum. :imp:

Finch has to go. In the whole time he has been the refs boss there has not been any improvement. Under his watch it has gone from bad to worse to a total joke where games are constantly decided by the refs. Of all the major sports in the world I watch Rugby League really is at the tail end of terms quality. Time for a fresh start and some accountability when the refs stuff up. At the moment it's a free pass to ref again every week no matter how bad the mistake.

Please refrain from swearing disguised or otherwise….

Finch and the hate of Wests Balmain and the Wests Tigers by refferees dates back to 1908...It is ingrained...

I share your anger but posts will be deleted if it continues...

i hope i see finch on the street one day and shayne hayne that dog. we are always getting robbed when shayne hayne is the ref. anyone notice that this year??

Just watched the replay of the hit in its entirety, as per others suggestions, there was NO good reason for the scrum to even BE PACKED! The only logical thing i can come up with is that S.Hayne wanted a bet each way (wanted to have the opportunity to have the video ref VIEW footage of the tackle by a stoppage in play, as he doesn't have faith in his own ability to rule the takcles "legalness" - he should not be sighted for any more finals matches. FULL STOP.)
Thank god R. Finch standing down.
Love the St. Augustines post Citizen Tiger.

How can he say the tackle was completed is he watching the same replay as everyone else? After watching the replay of this tackle and the scrum on the back page tonight and being sober not like saturday night watching it i am in disbelief of the decision to pack a scrum and not repack the scrum.Finch can pi55 off to england with his dope of a son

It clearly displays the lack of genuine scrutiny that Finch gives to the video review. He just believes and recites everything Harrigan tells him (and Harrigan believes refs are superior to players/coaches/fans - that they NEVER get it wrong - unless they're caught red-handed and then they blame f***ing tv screens!!!)

How about Harrigan's howler in the Dragons-Eagles game - and how his indefinite stand-down lasted the ONE WEEK that I predicted!!!!

Next year will be even worse when Bill takes over the entire operation (although he has effectively been running the show up until today anyway)….

Harrigan is the biggest blight on the game!!!

Its all academic now , but what would have happened if Dwyer had acted deaf, ran out the clock by running with the ball until tackled. At worst it would have eaten up more time before he was called back and the clock then stopped for the video ref and the scrum, surely the Roosters would have had less time to carry out what they did ?

I didn't listen to 2SM but apparently on Monday night but apparently Harrigan said the Dwyer hit was a penalty every day of the week and a bad call not to have been given by the onfield referees and the video referee. My question is is that his opinion only because every one else including the referee boss, the match review committee, the video referee and the onfield referees think the hit was legal (I have not seen any evidence in print that any of these people think different).

It is a real big worry to have Harrigan in the video booth on Friday.

As you can see, he lost the ball before he even went to the ground, and they say the tackle was complete. Hmm?? 😕

Harrigan is a paid contributor on 2sm and "heaps" Hughes (I assume his nickname is nowadays more about his propensity for bulls*** than his punting habits) + "too tough" Tunks (I assume his nickname is an irreverent joke like calling a ranga "blue") live for his every word!!!

If Tunks especially (famed for his use of the mid-80s ice-hockey moulded shoulder pads until banned) cannot give credit for a great hit - then that show (which has driven itself all year by hammering the NRL over Melbourne) has zero crediblity.

Hughes will not be back in 2011 (as he was using the show this year to raise interest in his new anti-Bulldogs book) - but if Tunks does return - then Talkin' Sport will live up to the colloquial Talkin' s***!
