First string backline. Is there any better????

Nightingale is a surprisingly excellent winger/fullback - so he'd have to get the nod over an injured/unfit Nella (for now)!!!

I saw Jason as a kid for Renown United - & you'd never imagine he was a future Test player!!!

I often recall Ayshford not even looking, you could tell there was no way on earth he was going to pass…often when there was something on and passing was THE way to go....its part of his game that needs work

I wouldn't bother looking if it were Fitzfumbles next to me …

Wow... Jan 2011 and the Fitzhenry bagging continues... amazing! hahaha

Ayshford really improved in the latter part of last year & his positional play will get even better this year.

Agreed. once Sheens said there was pressure on him to retain his place in the centres he was one of our best. There was not a better defensive centre in the semi-finals last season. No one could get past him.
He has good speed and the size to be a real manace to opposition sides next year. It's a really exciting time for the Tigers ahead in 2011.

Im still not sold on Blake A, Yes he improved considerably towards the end of 2010, However I Feel he is most likely to loose his starting spot to Tim Moltz.

Ayshford will be gun this year. Hell, he was gun last year ever since Sheens blew smoke up his ass about possibly being dropped for daniella.

Remember the 100 minute epic? Blake was probably one of the unsung heroes on the park that game, scored an impressive intercept try keeping carney off his back, where he showed unerring calmness in smartly delaying the grounding of the ball, made 30 odd tackles, constantly broke the line and caused dramas… All of that on the back of a week with the flu, where all he'd been able to keep down all week was a couple of bowls of 2 minute noodles. The kid is tough, and it would be ridiculous to drop him for Moltzen.

Let's compare our backline to the premiers.

1\. **Boyd** vs Anyone
2\. **Morris** vs Lote
3\. Gasnier vs **Ashyford**
4\. Cooper vs **Lawrenced**
5\. Nightingale vs **Tuiaki!!!!**
6\. Soward vs **Benji**
7\. Hornby vs **Lui or Moltzen**

Looks 5:2 to me but maybe other ppl will have different opinions. Also, I think Roosters may have a better backline than us.

I would take Lote over Morris, and Nightingale over the Tank. Probably have Gasnier over Ayshford too, and maybe Hornby over Lui/Moltzen. I agree that the Roosters probably have the best backline in the NRL next season Mini, Graham, Linnett, KD, Perrett, Carney and Pearce. Mini, KD, Perrett and Carney have all played for their country, Pearce has played origin, Graham is a solid first grader and Linnett is a promising up and comer.

Moltzen at 14\. On a serious sidenote, we will lose (most probably)
Tim to the Bears so unless Lui is injured we must persevere with Lui.

Ridiculous! The Bears might not even get back into the NRL and if they do it wont be for another couple of years. Even if they do get back into the NRL Moltzen might stay with us. Wests have to do what's best for the team now, and that wouldn't be keeping Moltzen out of the starting side. We don't even know if Lui will spend his whole career at Wests.

we certainly have alot of depth and there will be competition for spots.
I think the make up with the back line will depend on what they decide to do with Moltzen, who IMO will have to start somewhere. I think he is a sensational halfback, but i also like him at fullback. If he starts at fullback, Lui will obviously slot in at half. However if he plays at half, than the fullback spot will be a fight between McKinnon or brown, and as an outsider maybe Mullaney will get a run.
Will be interesting to see how Tuaki returns, fingers crossed he comes back in good shape

Goose - fortunately you have not even come close to living up to your name!!

Everything you've said is right (except maybe the postulation of Moltz as a "sensational halfback". For mine that remains to be proven)!!

Not hugely insightful - but genuinely thoughtful nonetheless!!

Keep it up mate!

PS - I rate Moltz highly - but with Benj at 6 I'm yet to be sold on their combination!

we are unbeaten with Moltz at halfback, 8 wins from 8, I also think it is no coincidence that our 4 losses in a row started when he was first injured.
Fair to say I'm a big fan of Moltzen
I'm really excited about our chances this year
