Fishing Thread

I was at the cleaning table with a stunning bag of whiting a few years ago.
I'm talking 9 or 10 whiting all between 38 and 44cm. Absolute donkeys.
A lurking pelican took advantage of me bending down to pick up my knife and got the best meal of his life.
I applauded his cunning and timing and let him waddle off with a 40cm whiting.
Yeah I’ve had to fight off a large pest of pelicans they team worked me and one got a 40 cm beam.
I had a good day that morning got a few big beam.

Got a couple of salmon recently around 2kg mark. Fish cakes for one n smoked the other. I know a lot don't like them but they are fine if bled properly and eaten within a day or two.
Everyone has their own taste when it comes to eating fish Mikey some people love tailor others hate them, some others don't like luderick, but I think there're nice.

Good thing about salmon is you know you are up for a fight, does your arm feel like it's stretched a foot longer.

Fished into the night Tues only caught 2 bream they were there, but an onshore breeze was putting them off the bite.

Always love the salmon fight 🙂 I actually thought I might have a jew on the other day as it's reasonably uncommon to catch the salmon up here.
Fishing has been a struggle the whole year up here but am going to the rock wall late today to throw out some pillies. Heard they were going ballistic yesterday morning - into a school fo bait. Should hopefully be some there still.

Both Tailor and Luderick are good eating fresh. Luderick used to be one of my favourites till I moved up north. Now its Coral trout, Spaniards and Jacks when I can find them.

Went for a fish this arvo guys had 7 luderick in my catcher's net and a bloody sea eagle swooped down and tried to steal it.

Fortunately I had it tied to a rock and the weight put it off and it dropped it never happened before the greedy turd.

It came back later and I tossed it some fish heads like I normally do there must have been 50 gulls hanging around while the cleaning was happening you never seen anything so happy to get a mouthful of fish guts lol.

Went out on the weekend trolling for mackerel. We had only been out about 5 minutes and my mate got a good one on but dropped it. Then lots of nothing for an hour or so.
We decided to troll across to a small reef nearby that often holds macs. On the way, I got smashed by either a big mac or barracuda. It popped a 60lb plain wire trace and took my $30 lure with it. I never even saw the strike it happened so quick.
As we trolled across the reef we could see lots of fish on the sounder so decided to try baits and jigs. It was on. The first two fish up were good size Nannygai, but then the trevally and schoolie mackerel moved in.
We were either pulling up a trevally or getting trashed by macs. We ended up catching 8 tealeaf and 2 bludger trevally, and one schoolie. We probably lost three rigs each to mackerel teeth
We gave it away after a while of catching nothing but trevally or losing gear. It was fun and we came home with dinner.
