Fitness

Our mental fitness will play the biggest part in the 2018 season

Being mentally strong will win us more games , 2017 Cowboys were the perfect example of this

When Cleary and Palmer were last together the Pamfers had the worst injury toll…they did get within a game of the GF tho..

Would it be fair to say the depth they had at Windsor helped them through?

Nigel Plum…

not really a mixture of youth and experienced NRL players

Link to the team that played that Prelim... http://www.rugbyleagueproject.org/seasons/nrl-2014/prelim-final/penrith-vs-canterbury/summary.html

Nigel Plum. That’s the least Alpha name to give a man. No wonder he made it to NRL level. Like a boy named Sue.

I Just got back from Waterpolo which is a physically demanding sport. Everyone is fit. But The ones that are mentally strong and can give that extra 5% are the ones that shine

x3, it's been our achilles heel for years.

It feels like this is going to be the fittest and toughest mentally we've been since Steve Folkes was here. The only time we've ever been a defensively tough side was under him.
As others have mentioned injuries under Ivan have been a problem in the past. Hopefully that's not the case this season.

We had a pretty good side remember forwards wise when Folkes was here

In no particular order

8 Galloway
9 Farah
10 Payten
11 Ellis
12 Rhino
13 Fulton

14 Gibbs
15 Fifita
16 Woods
17 Dwyer

The scary thing is we have had some ordinary forwards come through , but the amount that have come and gone is scary , when checking the players DOB you forget some of the players

Bodene Thompson
Taupau
Gavet
Matt Bell
Lodge
Corey Paterson
Adam Blair
Nathan Brown
David Gower
Corey Payne
BMM
Eddy Pettybourne
Ben Teo
Danny Galea
Ryan O'Hara
Scott Sattler
Jeff Lima
Ryan Tandy
Bronson Harrison
Luke O'Donnell
Anthony Laffranchi

Not all superstars granted , but a few were very handy

Couple of SOO players , NZers , definitely keepers

We had fairly similar squads in 2011 and 2012\. But they didn't have that same steel or edge that they had in 2010 when Folkes was there. We were one scrum away from the big dance…

We were a sprinkler head and a defused bomb away from a GF qualifier in 2011

Minute we lost Gibbs ….... :frowning:

It's scary , a couple of plays go right and we could of gone back to back

Guess every club have the couldas ,shouldas or woulda's in a season but imagine were we might be now

Then again , Sheenius would be a lifetime coach and we'd have probably all gone like Ink by now

I think the teams travelling the best are the fittest in the comp. Not only are the Tigers fitter, we are a more resilient team. In the close games, instead of expecting them to buckle under the pressure, you know they are going to fight for the full 80 mins.

Credit to the preseason trainers. We look like a fit and fast team.
In the games where we have come out fast (Manly and Parra) games we have maxed out for a period, then had enough fitness to hold on.
When I say fast I don't mean we have bought faster players to the club. It more that the players that have been with the club a while look faster this year. Lawrence, Brooks, Marsters, Liddle look quicker in open space and Twal, Hooth, Alioia, MCK look quick in getting to the tackle. One thing as well is that they are wrestling to get to their front for a fast play the ball.
It's this sustained pressure on opponents that is wearing them down.

Yep, they are showing more urgency for sure. Also making more effort-on-effort, and less errors. Fitness can have a big influence on all these areas of performance.

Lawrence has definitely gained a metre in pace. Just have a look at how quickly he got to Brooks' grubber to score. I also read somewhere that Reynolds posted a personal best sprint time in the preseason training.
