Fittler proposed as assistant coach

I agree coopy, the problem is that for some stupid reason he likes to portray himself in the media as a space cadet / buffoon. It would be hard to take him seriously despite the knowledge he has.

Nothing wrong with playing the fool Stryker , it makes people underestimate you

That is until it really counts ….......

I'd rather play the fool than be the fool

If we are after a media personality as an assistant coach I'd like to see Matt Johns. At least he has the guts to tell the truth about the team to the captains face. There needs to be more of that because it's obvious at the moment they believe their own hype. Soft (in comparison to other teams in the comp) sums up what they do out there pretty well.

Doing it in a TV interview and doing it one on one are two completely different situations

He doesn't have to deal with the aftermath after a TV interview ,whereas if it is in a club situation it has massive ramifications which he may not be able to deal with

Johns is a handy technical coach , but there are far better out there

The city side took him serious enough to make many here believe he should be NSW coach. At the moment ill take any change that brings is a younger fresher approach. Fittler may well be a qaulity adsett if he can be staunch enough to play a role with Sheens around.

Don't you mean

I like Freddy and all, but I don't know about this…...how can we afford him if we can't afford to offload the real problem?

If Royce is coming back, I don't see the point of throwing dollars at Freddy. I'd prefer him over Simmons though if it was a choice between the two.

As an assistant coach, i think he would be a good option. Would add a lot of creativity to the team, and would give us some x factor on the coaching side of things. But, as said in the article he is popular with the Tigers players, which is not what we need. Has been the obvious probem with Benj and Sheens. So maybe an outisder is the go

Are you lot kidding me… Fittler has one of the best footy brains going around, I have always thought he'd make a great coach (he was just still too close to playing group at roosters).
Also would be fantastic to have hime around the likes of Curtis Sironen... seeing as Fittler represented in the 5-8/Lock postions.

I believe he would make a decent coach, but not at Concord. This team needs discipline and fear.

true, but do you really think with sheens in charge a new "disciplinary" coach would be allowed to threaten or put fear in the players?

fittler has played centre, 5/8 and lock.. understands outside backs, halves and forwards very well.. has a bit of toughness to him and when he talks srs, he actually makes sense.
