Folau - valued at $400K - go for it !

Just a question, if 400K is too much for Israel Folau how much is Farah worth, from all reports he‘s already on big money and is often bagged on this forum for some serious brain farts that have really cost the team. So how much is Farah worth and how much is too much.
This is not an attack on Farah just a simple question, if Farah is on 450K now how much would you pay to keep him at the club.

I reckon Folau, once he is up to speed would add a lot more to the side than an Ayshford.

His power speed and aerial agility far outway Ayshfords abilities.

He would become one of our top try scorers and I reckon Rowdy would score his share off popped passes.

He would earn more than the $400k but it wouldn't come from the club or salarycap.

Reckon he's great value.

u only pay that much for a player like him if he has leadership qualities, which he doesn't. We invested in anasta for that and I'm pretty happy we have him. Squad can stay as is as far as I'm concerned

He might be valued at 400 k a season

But he was on that when he signed with the Broncos

He will want more ,especially seeing that there will be salary cap increases

Happy are you sure that he was on 400k when he was at the Broncs?

That derrick Andrew Webster was on 2KY's sports sunday either last sunday or the one before and he said that one of Parra's main gripes with Schubert's evaluation of 400k was that he wasn't even on that much money when he left the Broncos and he has been away from the game for two years yet Schubert's evaluation is more than when he left.

I don't quite understand. Is this thread about keeping Farah or going for Folau?

If there is not enough cap space for us to be in the market for top players solely because of Farah then certainly I agree that Farah is a priority. However, I don't have access to the books and I doubt most here don't either, so on what basis does everyone keep saying that Farah is going to eat the rest of our cap? AND, if this is true then Farah is able to dictate how we act on the player market….. isn't this a problem? I don't think we should be held to ransom by any player! (Note: not saying Farah is doing this)

Personally, if I were Farah I would want to see the club going for world class players - that would entice me to keep on. If Parra were to sign Folau then wouldn't that be an attraction for Farah to move there, rather than the opposite?

Anyway, back to the actual thread topic: Folau is obviously worth the money at centre. He is world class. $400k really doesn't go far these days after all. Look at what Parra payed for Hopoate, way over the value and Folau is worth many times more than him. A good front rower would be handy, but I don't see too many available on the market.

Please sign with eels! and please NRL allow them to go over the cap by 400k this year and they must be under by 400k next year so they cant get Farah.

Good call.

Much of the talk up here was why would you pay 400 k for a winger Maybe that was with 3rd party endorsements I don't know but I think most of the Qlders on our forum would remember that was the figure that was commonly talked about

Watto would be the one to ask , he has a few in the know out at Fulcher Road

He's forgotten how to tackle like a man.

He only knows how to pass the ball forward.

And when he misses a field goal attempt, he's gonna complain to the ref about why he didn't get 1 point.

I would rather save my pennies to keep Farah and chase Matt Scott as he is off contract at the end of 2013.

Best post in this thread.

Come on!

1) We only have _pennies?_ - that's news to me. If you know our exact cap figures then share them instead of speculating and making conclusive statements based on nothing.

2) _Keeping Farah_. When are we offering Farah a new contract? Does that mean we can't look at any other players until he signs on the dotted line? To illustrate the point: what if a top player like Billy Slater, Ben Barba, Matt Scott or James Tamou actually were available right now and wanted to sign in the next two weeks or else the deal is off. Would we let the threat of Farah's future wage demands hold us back? That would be stupid!Wrapping up Farah is crucial but I reckon it has nothing to do with us improving our squad with top class players in the meantime - and don't be mistaken, Folau **is** top class.

3) Are we even courting _Matt Scott_? Are we really going to save cap space for Scott and cross our fingers that in 2013 he really really likes us a'la Luke Lewis? Unless the TIgers come out and say that this is our plan of action then as far as I'm concerned one in the hand is worth two in the bush and I say go for Folau - and go big!

1) "Pennies" is merely a figure of speech. Not meant to insinuate anything about our financial position
2) Farah should be priority
3) If we aren't we should be

1) It is totally meant to insinuate that we don't have enough money to go sign more players if we are going to sign Farah.
2) Great response! Did you even read my post that you are apparently responding to?
3) Duh. See 2).

I'm sure you actually have meaningful reasons for your post (or I guess you wouldn't have responded), why not mention them?

Are you actually telling me what I meant to write?
I've got better things to do than talk to psychics.
Here's a question: what am I thinking now?

Not only are Parra still interested in signing Folau but are now reported as being interested in signing Tamou.

They carn't fit Folau in under the cap but are now reported to being interested in having Tamou as well.

He played rep footy under Stuart so they have a connection,

I gather not on the general market.

Reactive recruiting…we showed with Luke Lewis we arent averse to it.

You can plan so much, your squad needs to be balanced, it depends a lot on the junior situation and a myriad of other factors.....top liners dont suddenly come off contract often, its rare and clubs know WHEN the marquee guys are coming to the end of deals, and can factor that into their planning as well

No worries Happy,
Here's that same sentiment from a snippet in a article i read today.

That said, Schubert's refusal to lower his valuation of Folau has perplexed many at the Eels, and some outside the club. When Folau left the game at the end of 2010, as a Test and Origin star, he was not being paid $400,000 by the Broncos. Yet after two years out of the game, and more of an unknown than he was when he left, he has been valued alongside some of the star players in the game.

Well the mercinary is supposedly off to O/S Union now.

Stamp the card to never play again quite frankly. The game hasn't missed him and it still won't.

100% Agree. Thought he claimed he had to leave AFL because his heart wasn't in it? Must have been hiding his passion for union in the closet then.
