Folkes deserves more credit for where we are than Sheens

Tims decision to appoint Folkes onto the coaching staff has turned out to be a masterstroke. The improvement in defense has been very impressive and its no coincidence we are in the top 4 this year.

Of course fitness has a lot to do with EVERY aspect of rugby league, and all teams are fit to varying degrees. By your ridiculous logic though we were fitter in 05 than we are now under Folkes.

Your last post brilliantly illustrates the stupid and baseless nature of this ridiculous argument. Sheens coaching of skills, defensive skills, defensive patterns, tactics, player retention/recruitment/release, team selections has NOTHING to do with our current success, it is mostly because of our fitness coach who has been here for 9 months….......UM...Um.....EXCEPT....um when we get run over in the second half by a team that has the worst second half stats in the NRL, then its not the fitness guy its the players.

To be blunt, this new twist in the anti sheens argument smacks of rabid desperation by a vocal minority who can see their stupid petty agenda being derailed by the teams success.

At the start of the year it was "If this team doesnt make the 8 Sheens is a failure and he has to go"....now you guys are getting desperate so its "if this team makes the 8 then it was because of the fitness coach and therefore Sheens has got to go"

Pointless and pathetic

we still play the same style we have for the last 5 years….we werent fit enough to defend from our constant turnovers prior to this year now this year we are, and its keeping us in the games....it has everything to with folkes fitness regime

you are making yourself look foolish

Royce has not been defensive coach for (I think) 18 months. Sheens is responsible for defence…..unless of course it is good....then its Steve Folkes

Careful, Glenn, sensible posts aren't allowed in the Sheens bashing threads

it has to be folkes fitness regime…..because we are still making the same dumb mistakes week in week out but atleast our fitness is there to keep us in the game to mount comebacks or stay in touch.....

Oh ok Ron, by your brilliant logic it has to be Folkes fitness. Couldnt have anything to do with any improved defence keeping us in games? Before this week we were 4th best defence in the comp.

No it would have to be our fitness.

our fitness allows us to defend so long and not concede points then have the ability to come down field and score points…unfortunatley yesterdays the boys realised they had won 7 from 8 and didnt put in the effort.....

are you seriously saying that fitness has nothing to do with this?

No…... turning over the ball has been the major factor in all our losses.....Which means we have to defend more most times at the wrong end of the field and eventually crack.....Glenn is correct....

It's a catch 22 though....when we control the ball and play more boring football the defense holds we win but we don't score as many points and get labeled as having crap attack......the perfect win win for you Ron......

Pay attention....When we throw the ball around and complete at around 75- 80% we are unbeatable......No matter who the opposition....

geo…i think i know a little more about league then you mate....you dont look at the texture of it all....you are just looking at the black and white...if we drop the ball we lose...if we hold it we win...please did you just read a book on rugby league for 10 year olds?

we are winning the close games this year because we arent as fatigued at the back end of games whether we are playing great or bad....like was said we are the best offensive and defensive team in 2nd halves this year.....5-1 in games decided by 7 points or less....it come down to fitness...if the levels arent right we lose alot of those games

 That's the best you got….

Please...I go to games and watch them play not sure what you do......

Perhaps you should have a look at some of the losses and see how fit we were.....

Thers only one way to solve this conundrum.

Geo and Ron must answer ten questions, asked by me and the winner wiil be crowned the most knowledgable man on earth abour footy.

Out of the two.

IMO patience (& defense) has been a key factor, there's been a few games where Marshall and Farah knew when to chance their arm to come off with winning plays. Fitness has helped, we can defend for nearly a full 80, but we shouldn't have to if we hold on to the ball. The poor ball security and low percentage plays (i.e Benji lobbing a turned over ball on the zero tackle to the left,) is what costs us the most, if we can play high percentages we will get close to the line every time to put pressure on the opposition.

I know that the tigers wear orange and that they are the coolest team.

In the world.

BTW…what's the go with the Orange against Manly...

Should have worn Black..... :sunglasses:

of course to follow Rons brilliant and unquestionable logic, Tigers have never beaten the Bulldogs 2004-2008?

That exacylt right.Improved defence is winning us the close games,& Sheens has been responsible for 18 mths but its only been THIS season where its noticeably improved.
Not sure who u can give credit to..but we do seem as fit as any team out there.
Our attack ,for which Royce is responsible ,seems more disorganised than ever…!
Heaven help St Helens, currently 3rd on ESL table...I reckon Royce will be back after one season max

Call me crazy but I credit the players. Most have stepped up a level. Especially the likes of Lawrence, Gibbs, Ryan, Fulton and Payten. Couple that with no J.Morris in the halves, more depth in the forwards, the signing of Lote, all in the mix with the consistent performers like Farah, Ellis and Galloway and the team is better balanced and the workload shared across the park.

The coaching staff's success is a direct reflection of the squad they have. This is the first year we have been considered contenders since 2006\. Even then alot of experts, commentators and jounos didn't have us making the 8 this year.
