For "those" that think we're not improving

We are definitely improving.

The thing is almost every other team is improving faster than us. Cowboys, Dragons, Titans, Sharks, Broncos, Warriors- these are all teams that have finihsed lower than us in the last 2 years but they've all had a marquee signing and some really promising juniors. I don't watch as much reserve grade as I used to and have no idea where we are on the ladder but when I see our Juniors come to NRL level- they're no where as good as other teams.

Our improvement is difficult to quantify from points for and against perspective as there are many variables (injuries, refs calls etc). I also think the rule changes around six again has benefited the lower teams as they couldn't compete when better teams got momentum.

I do know that I don't have that same feeling of dread this year when teams get in our red zone or we fall behind by two converted tries

The turning point for me was the parra game, where I believe that the culture and wests tigers brand of football that the coaching staff have been trying to bring together came to fruition. We were gang tackling and driving players back for the entire game and watching from home you knew that all the players were there for each other.
The last couple of games have been great effort (culture) but limited execution.
Consistency is the key but its not easy with injuries, hia and players with limited nrl experience.
Im loving watching them play but realistically I don’t think we will make the 8 until 2024

Three things.

I wouldn't let Liddle go now. To be honest he is very much part of this renaissance and since he has come good it looks good for team building that we don't cannibalize our own.

And Secondly little changes in their belief and tactics as well as application says we are on the up and there's no going back.

With key players due back the 8 is still a possibility.

Our improvement is clear a lot due to the organisational skills of Hastings
also our pack is playing harder for longer but if our future is depending on the next generation in NSWcup forget it another huge loss 42-0 to dogs .
Nu Brown is a welcome bonus

I agree with the general sentiment that we have shown improvement over the last 5 or so weeks. Certainly in effort areas of the game, particularly in D and with our completions. Our A at times has still looked pedestrian and clunky but is improving as combinations come together. In fairness we have been hampered a great deal by injuries and the inability to have players hold down positions for any length of time. I have faith that once we get some of our key injured players back we will be a better team capable of winning more.
However, i thought our second half in particular against the dogs was quite poor. We started it like we were still in the sheds, then lost Hastings and were totally crap until he came back and they lost their centre for 10 in the bin. Realistically, the Dogs were pretty bad for all but 20 mins of that game.
Our D around the ruck is really average still with markers too slow to get in front or to see what’s happening. Our big men are not mobile enough up the middle. Our kicking game was very poor as well, and we can not catch a high ball under pressure.
On the plus side, thought Garner and Offa tried hard and like Nu Brown as a 14 instead of Peachy (who needs to go to Reggies for a while to get some hunger back)
Totally agreed.
Peachey Should be getting a hard word now about next years contract. Does he want to retire at 31? This guy could be the Mobile middle we need and people are putting their hands up for positions. He should go to reserve grade to either prove himself or exclude himself, he was definitely playing a great game at the titans and he can bring a first class performance here if he chooses too.

Hats off to Garner and Offa, Both have put in and I am glad to see Garner trying hard even though he is leaving us.
2021 we had this problem where 2/3 of the time our squad would not turn up to winnable games. Last game vs Cronulla missing a few props, When Tommy R died and we were steamrolled, etc. Yet some we really turned up to, i.e. us vs Parramatta was a bruizebath, we lost but boy we gave 100%

This year we have seen more of a fight. I think we should have had one more win under our belt, we have been unlucky. Sadly those fundamentals you mention haven't developed:
Our big men are not mobile enough up the middle.
Our kicking game was very poor as well (ok that had gotten better this year), and
we can not catch a high ball under pressure! Our ball handling is very sloppy.

We have had 4 years to get out of Amateur hour. Hiring a great halfback does not excuse that.

Firstly I agree somewhat with Peachey. He hasnt shown us much but I know he's got heaps more to offer.
What it does tell me is he should not have been a captain.
Secondly Offa and Garns have been solid. I gave Garns my 3pts for the Cowboys game.
A little disappointed with Stef and Tuilagi however after coming back from a layoff, Stef dud improve in the last game.
In my opinion, the reason we are showing more fight is because we have a real on field leader in JH.
Last year we were all over the shop and players were failing to do the basics.
JH is getting players in motion, to get involved.

I agree that little change in Belief has done wonders, particularly for Brooks but the team in general.

Liddle is a problem. We have to have a pathway or Partways with the 4+ hookers on our books. It's:
Liddle
Simpkin
Tannious.

Rua Ngatikaura

With Api Kirosau coming next season where do these 4 go?

We will have 1 Hooker in Api + 1 reserve for Origin/maybe. 1 could go to lock/reserve hooker (aka Brandon Smith/Justin Friend style) but I don't see this in Rua, Simpkin or Liddle and I imagine Doueihi or Peachey claiming this.

One of the 4 above HAS to go. Ideally 2 of the above as we just don't have the cap space. If Simpkin wants to resign for Unders then Liddle can go elsewhere. Likewise between Rua and Tannious though I could see them trying a different position and mentoring off Api. Yet if anyone above says " I want to be 5/8 or fullback or whatever" identify a training pathway that lets them try that position and keeps them at the club.

We cannot keep 5 hookers on the books and make the top 12 let alone the top 8. Particularly when none of these hookers really are built for the lock role, Sure if were forward dominant you could have Liddle at lock but were often steamrolled.

Getting people into different positions now OR letting them go explore other clubs means we ease tension and do the right thing by the players concerned. They may still hate us, but we level with them that we can't keep 5 hookers on the books they can understand and move on. We reward performers and let Liddle or Simpkin claim reserve hooker on performance. Both will be wanting a full time first grade role and we must say goodbye to one of them if we are serious.

Our NSW Cup team are filthy hopeless. Our top 30 is weak and requires urgent strengthening, for starting talent and depth.

Yeah that’s what I recall.
All crap, he was white anting Mick Potter. Seriously I don’t get the love for that halfwit. Just a reminder potter never played a single game for us not ONE!
Yet Payten WON a premiership with US!
Also WON a premiership with coaching our under 20’s!
Yet all the love for the halfwit Potter, and hatred and no loyalty for one of our own?????!
Go figure......

Hastings bringing those up around him. It’s a tried and tested method as old as time itself.

You can see blokes that aren’t your typical ‘effort area’ players busting an absolute gut, and leaving much less to chance… these are changes that are and will continue to be a result of what is known as hands-on leadership or active (and strong) action being affirmed.

This ain’t the kind of change due to staff pressure that usually gives us about a month of relief every footy season. This is real, tangible and mouthwatering percentage play and obsessive ball control that a really vocal winner brings, the boys are dripping zeal.

Responded above to start a fresh string…

Maybe you should be a bit fairer in your evaluation in regard to Potter...He wasnt given the opportunities that Payton has been given,he had the team playing good but the boys club said he couldnt coach...that basically finished his career with us...he is a nice guy, shows potential as an NRL coach and I hope he can improve the Dogs enough that it vindicates him being selected as interim coach...

After that I feel like putting the boots on, mouth guard in and a rub down with some methyl salicylate. Can't play now, I just want to feel part of it 🤣

Haven't got any problems with Todd Payten but what did Potter do, kick your dog or was it worse than that?

I can see huge improvements on last year we are definitely heading in the rite direction if we had abit more luck with injuries and had our best 17 on the park each week I reakon we would be in the 8
