Forward Pass

Surely the second last pass for the Sharks first try was forward, or am I just too biased towards the Tigers?
Commentators said that it was backwards and drifted forwards, but they never bag the refs for anything, and it was Bwaith commentating so I'm still not sure.
I know that the decision turned the game at the start, and considering we lost by 2, it was an important decision.
I just feel that we never get the 50/50 decisions in close games, or any games as a matter of fact. :brick:
Any other thoughts on the pass?

It's so true, the touchie was right in line with it last night, yet they didn't call it.

the pass was definitely forward, but where it's passed from and caught doesn't matter. only if it's backwards out of the hands, floating forward is fine

Backwards out of the hands is not enough, not true. Some passes back out of the hands can still travel forwards relative to the passer. Passes are not ruled by the hands, they are ruled by relative motion. I would argue yesterday's game, Widdop threw that massive forward pass but he almost got a backwards motion from his hands.

The thing not illustrated in the video is if you are not moving forward rapidly, or indeed are moving sideways, then the relative motion of the football changes. May halves run across-field and slightly forwards, therefore they impart mostly sideways momentum onto the football. That's why Townsend's one looks so bad, because he isn't sprinting forwards, he has gone across and slightly straightened.

The thing is it didn't slightly float forwards due to momentum, he just threw it forwards. Townsend wasn't moving at any great speed whatsoever, Lee just overran it a bit (expecting a kick?).
