Forwards dominated

I thought Packer started great today and was far more domininant than Matulino, but we dont get enough from either of them.
They were so talked up as being far superior to what we had and quite frankly they, are not.
I think they are trying but we are still short of dominant forwards with or without Packer and Matulino, and we still have three more years of them.

They need to be playing longer minutes

Definitely need to be playing longer minutes. What the hell is wrong with them that they can't? They've been playing in the NRL for years and can still only manage half a game each. It's not good enough in the modern game.

Yeah I don’t get it at all. Apparently now it’s all scientific and optimal performance based on a certain time period is taken into account. In my day you just kept turning up for your mate, having a red hot crack - that was optimal performance!!

Both props who I rate need to watch JWH performance on Friday night. One of the best I have seen in years demolished RCG/Merton/Fisher Harris.

Our front row was solid for the first stint between them ran for 100+ metres and made 35 odd tackles. We led 12-4\. The game was gone when they got back on.

Our forward pack needs bolstering big time. Packer, Mats, Lawrence, ET, Twal are very good but not great players. The drop off is huge to Eiso, Rochow, Aloai, MCK etc. **ET has been bad this year but playing 9 looks like it’s killing his will to live.**

Biggest issue we have is the 9 our forwards are being hit at the line due to slow service and Brooks has to be Tubby Taylor to pick the ball up off his laces every time.

No excuse for the disgraceful defensive display but Liddle has to play and stay at 9 for 80 if fit. Farah would be smart but Souths dumb if they release him as they could win a premiership.

Haha this is so true. Even Taylor (and the rest of the players for that matter) are getting sick of ET playing at 9 (yes, I realise MM was injured today and there wasn’t another option).

I’m not blaming Cleary at all the cupboard is bare. We need to sign a solid hooker for 2019 as Liddle can’t be relied on. If Fasah is available he has to be brought in to finish the year. At a minimum it may help heal some wounds and create a story line when the season is officially lost.

I watched Mats closely today…he is deadset lazier than our worst signing Adam Blair

Packer was the reason we got on the front foot early but his 2nd stint was quiet, as was most of ours forwards apart from Rowdy

I've been watching Matulino closely since the rumour of us signing him, I've been watching him even more closely since he's been here (if you haven't noticed) and I can tell you one thing.
He's phoning it in!

I didn't fully watch the second half and don't want to watch it.

Can anyone tell me the likely diagnoses on lawrence or what happened to him.

Taken out by friendly fire when he collected Packer's hip making a tackle out for the count..if we were playing next week I would say no chance as he has had a few concussions this year but should be right in a fortnight..walked off under his own steam..

Just about the only effective tackle Packer made? Couldn't watch for most of it! :astonished:

I didn't actually think the forwards were dominated yesterday. Our go-forward was fine, it was the handling and bad options that invited Canberra back into the game, then our goal-line defence that allowed them to score, then all-out defence once they found their next gear and routed us.

Packer and Mats were good in their first stint. Losing Lawrence and MM was what killed us yesterday. ET was awful again with his passing out of DH (say what you want about MM but at least he can hit a chest with a pass,) and Lawrence was slicing the line at will combining well with Brooks until he collected friendly fire.
