Parramatta have made a play for Canterbury forward Frank Pritchard in a move that will add further spice to Thursday night's clash between the arch rivals.

Pritchard, one of the biggest-name forwards off contract at the end of the season, is also considering interest from St George Illawarra and Wests Tigers.

However, the Eels are the club most likely to lure him away from Belmore as they attempt to bolster their pack. They thought they had nabbed their first big name under new coach Ricky Stuart when Josh Papalii signed a three-year deal worth $1.3 million. However, Canberra got underneath their guard, benefiting from a rule that allows the holding club up until round 13 to lodge a counter offer.

Pritchard has returned to his devastating best under the coaching of Des Hasler and the Bulldogs are keen to retain him. However, they are unlikely to be able to compete with Parramatta's offer. The 29-year-old has a family connection at the Eels, with younger brother Kaysa a hooker on the club's books.

A leg injury will prevent the New Zealand international from taking on the Eels at ANZ Stadium and he could be out for up to another month.

The Dragons are also looking to add starch to their pack and are keen to add the man dubbed ''Frank the Tank'' to their books.

The Eels remain cashed up after missing out on several of their signing targets including Papalii and Cowboys props Matt Scott and James Tamou. They are also after off-contract Wests Tigers captain Robbie Farah but the NSW hooker is expected to re-sign on a deal that will make him a Tiger for life.

It is understood Brisbane utility Corey Norman is close to agreeing to join the Eels. Norman's preferred position is pivot but he has been shifted to fullback after the arrival of Scott Prince.

Norman has told those close to him that he is poised to accept the $400,000-a-year deal.

With pritchard, would we be again buying a player on the way out. Should we be looking at some of the good player currenlty going around, better deal and you can imporve them. Bromich, Hala, some of the canberra forwards etc…

Agree ,another flat track bully (which is invariably usually us ) goes missing in action when you need him most

The only link for Pritchard to the Tigers should be Centrelink imo

And Corey Norman a $400 k a season player :crazy

Has the world gone mad

The best bit out of all his it looks like we have cash to spend this year thats a good thing in Mick we trust. Robbie Farah hope you stay a tiger for life.

Always take players reported salaries inthe papers with a grain of salt

I ve been privy to a few players incomes and they have all been significant less than reported. You could work that out by doing the maths, if all the players earnt what the papers reported, all clubs would need the storm's accountant

Good news on Farah, however I would take frank in a heartbeat. Even in a wheelchair he'd offer more impact than out current second row pairing.

We are rebuilding, and need younger players with something to prove and fire in their belly. Not older players who have had their day.

And agree entirely with Happy's sentiments.

No thanks to Frank.

Agree but Frank is not a noted worker,we need his attack, but do we need his defence, may work with Fulton and Blair and Anasta to the bench.
Really hope the Farah bit is true, although he might reconsider if we suck again on sunday.

I think we need a mix of both…too many youngsters is a recipe for disaster.
You need some old heads

Dunno about Frank though...would rather Corey someone, ex knights (not Paine or Parker), hes killing it in ESL...just forget his damn name

Pritchard is 30 this year,& no doubt looking for his superannuation which was once (but no longer)the role of ESL.
Lets not repeat past mistakes & buy yet another big $$ forward that consistently under-delivers,particularly one at this stage of their career

On Facebook a guy posted and tagged Wests Tigers page that he saw Farah at a Parramatta function at ANZ stadium before the Bulldogs vs Parra game… Can anyone confirm this? If true that's a bit of a worry...

There was another story too which i can't find that said Farah was waiting for some of his demands to be met,and the club were taking there time fixing these even though Farah wants to sign the 4 year deal that was offered 1 month ago and stay a one club man.
