Fringe Defense

The defense on the fringes is starting to be a real concern. We are getting found out almost every time, especially when teams are attacking towards Lawrence and Miller. These two have to sort it out. Maybe Benji needs to defend on that side?

Maybe Moltzen has to defend that side. Looks like Sheens knew what he was doing after all.

The left fringe does seem to be exploited often, but the deficiencies are towards the centre. We have an issue where the central defenders dont overlap those sucked into the play, so for example our LH second rower and centre get sucked into a tackle the winger is isolated 2 on 1\. We tightened up, up the middle at expense of the fringes. On the line we should at least expect our fullback to be roving behind the play, if not forwards following the movement along the line.

The question has to be asked where was the fullback? Tedesco did well with 2 on 1 but seriously where was the fullback ? Slater is always there and Stewart making that covering tackle.
Where was Moltzen ?

This morning I had a conversation with a friend of mine in the eagles squad. Essentially they were drilled all week to attack Lawrence and Miller. They identified one inevitably moved up and the other stayed back.
They trained all week to take advantage of it and It worked a treat.
It worries me that opposing teams can see and plan to exploit such a weakness. Yet our own coaching team can't identify and address it.

This morning I had a conversation with a friend of mine in the eagles squad. Essentially they were drilled all week to attack Lawrence and Miller. They identified one inevitably moved up and the other stayed back.
They trained all week to take advantage of it and It worked a treat.
It worries me that opposing teams can see and plan to exploit such a weakness. Yet our own coaching team can't identify and address it.

Yeah good call annoyed me that idiot Gould blaming Tedesco for being out of position. Tedesco showed a good football brain to force Lyons to pass then chase. I noticed there was no one else coming across in cover.

It was a tough game for Tedesco to return to. Once he has the no. 1 I imagine his game will be a lot better. But there's no denying that The left side defence is our weakness.

Little unfair to blame Tedesco's 2 on 1 on Moltzen. If you review every single try scored in a corner you will realise the fullback isn't there everytime.

Reason for that is the ball runner draws in 2,3,4 players meaning each consecutive player slides in to cover leaving a free man. No brainer really.

Not on the try line they aren't! Those tries not moltz fault. This is clearly a desperate bid to push blame on moltzen, wasn't his fault

Black n white, Gould wasn't wrong, tedesco looked completely lost, not his fault with a couple of those tries but his decision making at times was shit, as a full back he is not used to making defensive decisions.. But he looked lost

Agree tedesco was very lost on the wing. H should have stayed much wider on his winger in those situations -your cover defence is more likely to cover on the I side then the outside. You can say he was out of position and its true but he should have been better a t it - most fullbacks start on the wing in first grade and he should be prepared. I am concerned about the miller and Lawrence gap especially on the side with a rookie winger and I am sure potter is too we had 2 tries and a called back
