From busted to Blues for Aaron Woods

With NSW under the pump early due to Maloney and the refs, Woods outplayed Gallen in my oprinion. Daley is definately looking to make him a scapegoat

:roll i love woods and all but you can't be serious! Gallen racked up the most metres AND tackles from the Blues. Woodsy wasn't even close. Granted limited minutes, but gallen didn't play 80 either.

U missed my point.

Im saying Woods outplayed Gallen in the first 20 mins….not over the entire game

Oh well , at least with the limited minutes he played , he will be a bit fresher for this Saturday night encounter .
Love the bloke , but the pace of the game & the aura of Suncorp might have got to him a bit

Agree 100% Aladinsane

I thought both Woods and Farah had quiet games. Then again QLD contained the whole of the NSW side well. Come to think of it it was a mirror of Game 1 when NSW contained QLD.

Farah was his usual classy self, and took it upon himself to moonslight at Halfback when Pearce disappeared. He also setup the only blues try.

I didn't think Woods played as bad as the pundits said, he made metres with the ball, made solid tackles, and even forced a turnover at one point. I think the criticism of Woods has been a bit harsh.

Yeah, but Gallen didn't make a late surge or anything. He played consistently well throughout the game while Woods played okay for 20min. He conceded a penalty with a high tackle and wasn't as damaging as Gallen (who wasn't that damaging himself).

even on first 20, gallen appeared better than woods to me.

Woods was far from the worst player out there. As you hear ex-Origin players say all the time, that first 20 minutes for him would have flown by in an instant and he really didn't get much game time after that to make an impact.

Did Luke Lewis play? He must of been very bloody quiet if he did, can't even remember seeing him out there.

I think his limited minutes had more to do with the fact Fifita and Merrin were both making good yardage when they came on. It made sense for Daley to give the two of them longer game time.

That, and Merrin got a 10 min spell in the sin bin. Made sense that he could go back on and have another crack.

Would have been good to see Woods get his 2nd stint a bit earlier. Gallen kept trying but was running on empty there late in the second half.

Absolutely, with 11 on the field, you would want mobile forwards out there to cover the extra space. A big prop like Woods would have struggled compared to a Watmough or a Hoffman.

I couldn't follow why he was hooked early its as if Daley was saying he was to blame for the Qld dominance early, far from it, the one positive, it will fire him up for Saturday night.

Don't think it was that, Cunno, I just think it was because the NSW forwards had taken such an onslaught and had to defend so much in the first 20 minutes that it stands to reason the coach would replace tiring props. Gallen was also replaced not long after and Woods did get another stint later in the second half. If Daley wasn't happy with his effort I doubt he would've put him back on at all.

Considering how the game panned out, I reckon Woods did as well as he could for his first SOO game. Nothing flash, of course, because he really didn't have much opportunity in attack, but he weathered the storm as well as any of the other more experienced forwards in the NSW pack and never looked out of place, imo. I would keep him on the bench for game 3.

the guy got barely a chance in my opinion! his first ever SOO! what is expected? because he is a forward, he got taken off. merrit didnt have a great game either (although i am glad he has finally got his chance there) but because he isnt a forward had a whole game to adjust or not.
i think any negative criticism of woods is pretty unjust. he had limited game time and i dont think it is fair he is expected to just click straight away. i hope he isnt unfairly dropped because of it.
at least he got more time than big keefy!!

Woods problem was his role wasnt as a dominant prop for the blues. Woods isnt one of those players who can make a few hit ups a half. One of his best qualities is his workload. Aaron suffered because Blues go to Gallen like the Tigers go Aaron.

Its the same reason why Blairs stats look so much better without Woods. Aaron is our Galle n.

His problem was that NSW had no ball for the first 20 minutes. Farah had made 16 tackles after 20 minutes and Woods 14\. I'd love to see Woods stats as far as metres go if NSW had 80% possession like Qld did for the first 20.

Anyway, all we can hope for is that he continues his strong club form and see if it's enough to get a gig for game 3.

just watching last nights game i was thinking why the f*** is gallen still being played at prop?! to me it was a good one off maybe two off thing that would work.
where are the nsw props???
also, why was tamou suspended from origin?!!! in my mind, his affairs outside of league have nothing to do with league! the guy made a mistake driving, and while i dont condone that, in what other profession would this affect your job?!
ive lost my licence before, but i was still able to work! because he is well known he cant play origin?
i think this is ridiculous.

Because playing professional sport for a living is a privilege. Signing a multi-million dollar NRL contract comes with certain responsibilities… like for example, I dunno, not driving 4 times over the legal limit with 3 passengers.. and unlicensed to boot. The NRL is a billion dollar sporting brand and any time one of these pinheads does something that brings the game into disrepute, they reserve the right to punish them accordingly.

i dont think he'll be retained.

daley made it quite clear by putting him on when he had already lost

Yeah I agree. Gallen said as much on the footy show last night. Said tamou will most probably come back into the team.

Well Paul Gallen might not even play will know today its a 2 to 6 weeks there saying will see what happens if his not playing Aaron Woods will stay with James Tamou.

The Gold Coast Bulletin gave Woods 4 , stating the kid needs to learn how to run ?,

Being a Balmainboy living here is trying at the best of time , during origin it's unbearable.

The worse rating went to Merrit he copped a 1 , stating he looked like school kid against men !

Robbie got 7.5 and was their highest recipient , even though he spent 18 minutes on bench whilst Reynolds had no idea when we had the best period of possession in their 20 , just mind boggling to me.

I love Woods he is going places but I really think he should have come off the bench with Fifita starting , just to compose the atmosphere of the occasion on Aaron.

Dissapointing result for us but atleast we can get some revenge at Leicchardt on Saturday !

After last weeks three from three we should be right up for this , GO TIGES.

The judges for origin want to see impact and they love players who show this. Woods isn't an impact player like Fifita is, and I understand why Woods was started it's just that the way the game panned out no NSW prop was going to look good in that first 20\. In fact it was a good call to have Wood's defence on there for the first 20 because NSW needed it!

What score did the Bulletin give Fifita?

lol no idea. bird was far and away the best player for blues. imo he single handed defended us out of the rut of 20 minutes. his tackles hurt.
merrin constantly broke the line
woods should start again, imo he took it better than most expected. no matter what he looked confident out there. forwards shouldnt be f'd around- halves f'd up
