Fullback for 2013

I've said it before, but I'll say it again.

Tedesco had EVERYTHING going his way this time last year. Stellar form in the U20s towards the end of 2011, a full off season with first grade, and two trial matches under his belt. People may forget that he started 2011 in SG Ball, then played the second half of the year in the NYC. That only puts him down for around a dozen games of footy above schoolboy level in the last 18 months.

Yes, he's talented. Yes, he could be the next Billy Slater. Yes, he's probably our best option at fullback. But take it slow, don't rush it. Give him a few games at the start of the season in the NSW Cup or NYC. Training the house down is completely different to on-field performance.

Hard to argue with, he is an excellent talent, but no need to rush him

I hope Tedesco gets another go and a chance to show what he's got. As for Moltzen he really has to display his best form no matter where or when he gets a go.

I think Tedesco is the real fullback we have been needing, however as others have said I would actually like to see him properly managed.

To me that means coming back through NYC. His was a bad injury and he could well need some time to fully return to form. He is only young, time is on his side and he has a long future looming ahead for him at WT.

So let's not rush things, and in the meantime I'm also curious to see if Moltzen has more to offer under Potter's coaching - we might as well put Timmy's salary to use at least for the start.

imo if he is better than other possible fulback candidates, then he should start at 1.

if you're good enough, you're old enough imo.

Out of all the players that have stepped into the fullback possie over the last year, Simona was the one that impressed me the most, but I don't think he has been considered for the spot on a full time basis, but Potter could have his own ideas …..

The Who is your fullback for 2013 poll on the Wests Tigers website currently stands at
\
\
James Tedesco 59%

Tim Moltzen 27%

Sean Meaney 7%

David Nofoaluma 7%

Saw the Poll

How Simona doesn't get a gig in the Top 3 astounds me . Unless he is a huge chance to get the other centre position ,I'm scratching my head

It is likely due to the fact that most people who have taken part in the poll have never seen Simona play fullback.

yeh.. simona really impressed me a lot as well during the end of rabbitohs game and the bulldogs game… i thought he would be a smokey to start at 1.

but neither is he listed under FB in the player profile, nor was considered in the poll

Moltz is miles ahead of Meeney and Noffa. The last time Noffa played fullback was in about U/16's, he is clearly a winger now.

Tedessco and Moltz will be the only 2 considered.

For all his faults, Moltzen isn't a strike weapon? He was our leading try scorer.

having said that I want Tedesco to start at fullback if he's ready

Yep this is true, Moltzen scored plenty of tries last season. I do agree though with most on this panel that Tedesco shouldn't be rushed back, he would be lacking confidence, a few stints in the lower grade wouldn't do him any harm, (till he get's back onto his "feet")- good luck

If Tedesco isnt ready for the first game i would pick Moltzen or Simona for Fullback as i dont think Meaney is First grade material.

I agree tedesco is young and there's no underlying rush with him, but if he's training we'll and he and the team medics are happy with his knee I wouldnt hold him back.

Most knee blowouts are from innocuous side steps when the bloke hasn't got a hand on him. In that respect he's no less likely to get injured in NYC than he is in first grade.

Cant think of too many players who have hit the ground running after a full reco job on a knee. Most have taken the best part of a season to get back in the groove and many never get right back to the top. Iam sure young Teddy will be good but I would not be rushing him

IMHO, we shall pick players at their positions, and abandon idea of 'universal player - one size fits all'
Moltzen has shown that he cannot play FB, the amount of evidence is overwhelming :frowning:
IMHO, if Tedesco is not ready replace him with Rowe (our NYC championship winning FB), or Rudolph or Meaney/Simona.
