With Galvin looking for an exit door and a number of clubs that’ll be interested. We have a very big carrot that a lot of clubs may be interested in.
I’ve listed the clubs who might have current interest.
This is more aimed at who we think might be the best targets at each team should an early release and swap happen. Backrow, lock and centre are all spots we could use some improvements.
1. Bulldogs - Gould is a massive fan and has been openly voicing his praises for a long time. I think he’s secretly been in his ear behind the scenes also. Rumours are they’d shift Burton to fullback. Think they’d reject a request for Crichton or Preston, but Preston would be one of my top picks. I think we could get Kikau without a swap.
Player swap options: Preston, Kikau.
2. Broncos - Highly unlikely. Unknown whether Reynolds plays on with them, but they’ll still have Hunt and Mam in the halves. Reynolds may get some interest from us anyway if we want an experienced half if they feel Fainu needs some more time. Has a relationship with Richo. Could stay at Broncos if they find the cash, have a swan song at Souths, play an interim role elsewhere, retire or head overseas. Too many injuries.
3. Cowboys - Smokey. Dearden to half and they could look to improve their 5/8 spot.
Player swap options: Nanai
4. Canberra - Highly unlikely. Fogarty may leave, but they’ll invest in Strange and Saunders if he does.
5. Dragons - Highly unlikely. Flanno won’t drop his son. Only spot would be halfback and I don’t think that suits Galvin’s game.
6. Dolphins - Unlikely - I don’t think they’ll go for 2 young halves.
Player swap options: Farnworth, Gilbert, Plath
7. Knights - Unlikely. Brown/Sharpe probable halves pairing next year. However we could end up with a player from them via other options if Galvin goes to Parra and Brown is released early.
Player swap options: KPP, Lucas, Best
8. Manly - Possible, but Seibold denied interest. Lots going on with their halves. DCE leaving. Talk of Brooks being shopped. I think the best outcome for us would be an Olakau'atu/Galvin trade out of all the players mentioned. He’s very close with the Fainu brothers and an absolute gun. Galvin/Fogarty combo?
9. Panthers - My top smokey. They wanted him a while back. Penrith are stuggling without that running 5/8. Ivan’s #1 recruitment policy is fitness which Lachie has in spades. Could see him playing a similar role to Luai there. The comment on the coach being able to develop him as a half kind of fits. The money will be the problem here. Could see To’o coming as a trade, which would require us to re-think our backline. I could also see him coming our way regardless with them having other priorities to fix. Only other swap I’d entertain is Liam Martin.
10. Parramatta - Likely. Parra fan growing up. Would probably play well with Moses. Plenty of cash here.
Possible swap: Lomax, Penisini, Hopgood
11. Rabbitohs - Rough Smokey. Humphries has done a good job to start the year and Walker is ageing. I doubt Bennett keeps Latrell in the 6 long term. I could see Galvin being a little project for Wayne though and a long term replacement for Walker. Don’t think this will happen though.
Possible swap options: Koloamatangi, Duncan
12. Roosters - Likely. Could see him fitting into their systems. They’ll have the cash also (sombrero style).
Possible swap options: Crichton, Leniu
13. Sharks - No. Fitzgibbon seems pretty certain in his spine.
14. Storm - No. Spine is locked with juniors coming through. If he held until 2027, they may enter the conversation depending on who moves on.
15. Titans - No. They’ve got more fullbacks as halves than they know what to do with.
16. Warriors - Unlikely. The 5/8 spot isn’t a lock, although I can’t see Galvin leaving the country at all.
