I've reread this thread twice

Anyone know what his punishment actually was ??

Being stood down from saturdays game

Thanks Ink , well if that was what the leadership group and or Potter agreed on and has been served good and well

It's a problem for us because Saturday night in NSW cup should have been a fitness test for James Gavet leading into his return to first grade. Does he now go straight into first grade after 8 weeks out, or does he have to play NSW cup against the Panthers to prove fitness?

I hate suspensions as a punishment. The team suffers as much as the individual. I think fines or community work is a better punishment than suspensions.

I don't see how missing a game is a consequence? Bloke gets paid for having the day off..His consequence should be a fine.

 if a player misses a game for disaplinery reasons but still gets paid not much of a punishment is it?

I made a mistake and I got punished for it but now I'm reading this thread and feel like utter crap, I don't know if I'll bother turning up again.

One of many possible lines of thought.

That's the way this thread could be heading. Without full context you know nothing.

Do you want to talk about this?

How do we know there was no fine involved?
Id safely assume there would be some monetary penalty…its not like its something the club really wants to promote and as such being dealt with in house

Agreed.

In the end, he stuffed up, has done his time and hopefully him and the club can move on with a lesson learnt on James' part. Whatever the exact details of the punishment were are between James and the club.

We've all stuffed up and been punished before as young blokes and if we learnt from our mistakes, the punishment served its purpose, if we didn't, the punishments became more severe…Let's hope James only has to be told once to pull his socks up because he is a great talent, otherwise the flip side is that he won't have a job to come 35 minutes late to.

Here's to a speedy return to fitness, form and the top grade for James.

Get him on the bench for First grade this week as a 1/4 fit Gavet is 100% better option than Jack Buchanan.

We have no punch out of the forwards on the bench so he needs to be there.

He stuffed up so let him pay the team and the supporters back he best way he knows how.

A non match fit Gavet is a huge liability defensively, he is a developing player to start with all of seven starts from the bench…minimal motor even when match fit

Yep he needed that NSW cup game for match fitness, just needed to turn up. After 8 weeks on the sideline, James can't be thrown in cold against an in form Penrith side. Never thought I'd say Jack Buchanan was the better option.

I had a chat and a pic taken with him at the Members' Day on Sunday. He had a bleeding wound on his hand and was fiddling with a band-aid to cover it up. I asked him what was wrong. He said he was "sparring with a brother". Of all the moments on the day, that one has stuck with me. That, and seeing him wander down to the pool, alone, and sit watching, alone, in the stands, while the rest of the squad went through recovery. He didn't seem like he belonged. It concerned me then and it still does. I just hope he has good people around him. If he's to reach his potential, he is going to have to trust in someone who can give him guidance and timely advice. I hope he finds that person.

I think that's the idea, by placing the emphasis back on the player and saying "look, you've not only let yourself down by doing this, but you've let all of your team mates down too - don't do it again"
