@Swordy said:I too watched the footy show and remember how much Gibbsy contributed on and off the field.
But lets get fair dinkum here.
GIBBSY HAD A CONTRACT, COULD HAVE STAYED AND WOULD HAVE BEEN PAID IN FULL !!
HE WAS NOT SACKED!!!
He chose to move on and it was his choice.
There will of course be people on here who hold the belief that if you're told to look around, your job is finished. THAT IS CRAP. He could have stayed, played his guts out, been in a position where they had to pick him. To say he would have played out his 3 years in park football is just absolute crap.
I miss Bryce and I'm sure the team does, just as much as anyone else on here. But he ultimately made the choice, OF HIS OWN ACCORD to leave and we should accept that and move on. Others were told they could look elsewhere but STAYED. Bryce didn't for his own reasons, and I wish him nothing but absolute success. I hope he make the decision to come back one day. END OF STORY

Here's what we DO know:
Gibbs had just signed a new contract.
Gibbs was on decent money.
Not long after signing Gibbs, he was allowed to negotiate with other clubs.
Same with Fafita.
Tigers took forever to announce the signing of Blair.
After Gibbs, Fafita joined the Sharks, and Payten & McKinnon announced they too were leaving, Blair's signing was announced.
During 2011 the emergence of Aaron Woods & Matt Groat looked very promising.

So those are the things we know. There was plenty of speculation involving Heighington leaving, Beau leaving, Benji not being friends with people, Farah not being friends with people, player-coach bust-ups etc. But they are just that- speculation. There might have been some truth there, but obviously nothing so serious as to worry about it.
My conclusion is this- the Tigers targetted Blair, realised they couldn't fit him under the cap. The coaching staff looked at the roster, knew you can only have 25 guys on the list, and realised/thought/assumed that they'd get by with Galloway, Woods, Groat, Moors etc at prop & that Gibbs' new shiny contract wasn't as good value compared to signing an elite guy in Blair. So sacrifices were made. Gibbs didn't want to go, but it's likely he was informed that his playing time would be reduced as they try to get the new young guys on the field, and when the Sharks offered him more money & more playing time, it was the right time to move.
He probably didn't WANT to go, but sometimes you have to sacrifice something to achieve your overall goal. I'd say Gibbs viewed earning better money & playing 1st grade more regularly over earning well, playing time being taken away but still playing with your mates.
Good for him- he treated what he does as a business, which is essentially what the NRL has become- business. Salary caps & budgets have a way of making teams & players more mercenary about the way they do things. If the Tigers had decided we are only going to keep 'the mates' here & not sign from outside the club, we'd probably complain that the Tigers have no will to win.
In my opinion, the club did the right thing. And I'm one of Gibbs' bigger fans over the last couple of years. But you don't keep solid players on long term overpaid contracts at the expense of getting elite players that can make the team better.
