JAMES Tedesco’s strong bond with the Wests Tigers playing roster, particularly stars Luke Brooks, Aaron Woods and Robbie Farah, was one of the driving reasons behind his backflip to stay with the club.

The Daily Telegraph can reveal Tedesco reported for training on Tuesday visibly distressed before talking to players and the club’s coaching staff to convey his confusion.

Tedesco, who has played just 25 NRL games, then went for a coffee with Farah to further discuss his desire to turn his back on the lucrative Canberra deal he had signed for next season, before again meeting the Tigers skipper for further talks on Wednesday.

Once Tedesco had decided to exercise his right to pull out of the three-year Canberra contract, it was decided he needed to personally call Raiders coach Ricky Stuart to explain his reasoning.

On Fox Sports’ NRL360, Farah confirmed he had advised a worried Tedesco about his future.

James Tedesco celebrates scoring a try.
“I spoke to the kid. I noticed at training that’s he’s been down the last few days,” Farah said.

“I had a chat to him yesterday (Tuesday) and he confided in me and I told him to go away and think about things.

“He was finding it difficult to leave and as a mate and club captain I gave him my opinion and some advice.

“I told him if he was serious about changing his mind we’d obviously support him.

“It’s a big decision and something he has to live by. At the end of the day he has followed his heart.”

Seems Tedesco was genuinely confused what he wanted to do. When he made his original decision Robbie and Woods were away with origin. Playing golf with Benji, Braith and Moltzen obviosuly swyaed him one way. Plus i'm sure his manager was swaying him Canberra's way.

Now a week back training with the boys and he has changed his mind, which is not really that surprising. Seems like we have some good senior players here that guys look up to and want to be around.

I'm still confused why he initially took the Canberra offer up and I think its good he felt bad about it. Robbie is a star.

Farah is a dead set legend. That's what leadership means. He's seen it all and been through it all, and in a low key way he helped a young guy under heaps of pressure make the right decision. Farah is our best, the first true WESTS TIGERS immortal.

The sooner this happens the better. Maybe the club is preparing for next year or later this year however I think we should be trying to make a run for the finals and we need our best players.

Sounds like he must've taken Moltzen's advice at golf.

In all seriousness, top work from Robbie, and a good decision in the end from Teddy.

What about the talks that he wanted out from the very start? Puts them to bed, really.

Anasta should go ASAP apart from being crap he doesn't have the clubs best of interest at heart as part of the leadership group.Go and commentate or whatever it is your going to do Mr Anasta!. Well done Robbie great decision by Teddy. All is forgiven and forgotten. Let's go win some games.

I think it is pretty clear that Tedesco left for the money. To renig on that deal will cost him half a million dollars. The full extent of that decision cannot be understated. I am proud that he went with his heart and stayed but he may regret it into the future should he have ongoing injury problems.

With respect to Anasta….....we are not going to win the comp this year! We never were. There is a plan in place and Anasta's experience is part of it. I think we need to sit back and chill, and give this a bit more time to sort itself out.

Robbie really impressed me on NRL 360 last night. Firstly his guidance of Tedesco when the kid was going through turmoil in his head, and the second when they spoke about origin and he said that if we had of had a game the following weekend he would have been the first to put up his hand to play for the Tigers. He had opportunities ot leave the club for more money, but he loves the club and he stayed. That will rub off on the younger guys and has already saved us $500,000.00.

Exactly right Tigersmurf. Next year is the year. This season making the 8 for a start will be great considering where WT have come from. If the top 8 is made then a reassessment can be looked at. Currently there is about 3,585 teams on the same points, so winning this week will get the second half of the season off to a great start.

I understand what people are saying but any chance to make the 8 and then to go on with should not be taken lightly

Who would of thought after 2005 , it would take us 5 seasons to make the 8 again with all the youthful talent we had at the club

Just in regards to your point that we were never going to win the comp this year, i feel that has changed. Look at the competition, there are no standout teams. Its wide open and i think if we stay healthy we actually have a shot at it.
