Goodwin

We need a good goal kicker, seems like an area we have been struggling with for some time now.

Doesn't help our for and against which hasn't been positive since 2011 and makes the difference in those close games which can be the difference between making the 8 or just missing out. In 17 seasons we have finished 9th-12th 9 times. Obviously other factors involved but goal kicking is a large part look at the consistent teams.

Can the people saying his average give reasons why they think that.

To me looks strong fast and can play

Yep… Agree... But id hazard a guess this is all BS

I like him, solid defence and can kick. I don't recall him being a speedster but can finish them. As others have said is an upgrade on Kevi.

He has always been a good club man and a quiet achiever. At the right price point, it's a yes from me. Definitely an upgrade from Kev.

I'd take him. Solid is a very good description of him. Would never let you down. Won't win any games for you, but that wouldn't be his job. With Cleary, it's all about simplifying every players job - much like Bellamy does at the Storm.
I'm not super excited about the prospect of getting Goodwin, but I do think it would be a clever acquisition. He can cover a couple of positions and as others have said, he can kick goals.

This is the misconception he will win the games for the team , he would be signed for this reason … kicks goals = winning games !

True but I was referring to his general play. 'Solid' not a 'match winner' a la Milford, Tedesco etc.

In my opinion most "match winners" are over rated, as not many are consistent. True match winners like Thurston, Smith, Cronk are not easily obtainable. Our "match winners" are no where near the above, yes they can show flashes of brilliance but very inconsistent. So if you pay overs for inconsistent "match winners" then you don't have much money to build a consistent team with depth(our current situation).

I'm not a fan of Goodwin in general play, but we so badly need a goal kicker that I could accept this as a decent signing

When Cleary re-built the panthers he had a blend of youth (which we have) and old experienced hard heads to lead them around.
You also need backup players in ISP, Goodwin has always been pretty solid, and not the quickest player might not rush up out of the line in defence.

No special PM here but like some of you i think he's a solid safe signing, he's a bit quicker than he seems he has a decent jump and doesnt usually out a foot wrong. I think you need these dependable signings can cover wing/centre/fullback why not better than Kev and kicks goals.

To me looks strong fast and can play

Played 80 minutes last week. 3 runs for 32 metres.

Years ago I thought he was just woeful. He's a lot solider now, just nothing to get very excited about.

I rate him as decent, vast improvement on Kevvy. Makes the right decisions defensively, has safe hands, scores the tries he should, strong kick returns and a good goalkeeper.

As for stat's last week did you watch the game? Souths got absolutely smashed and had no ball, of course his stat's were poor.

In a 30 man squad guys like this are good if they're cheap enough. Our depth is woeful at the moment. You look back to 2010-2011 and look at some of the guys we could bring in to cover injuries. Versatile and solid players. Not everyone can be a world beater and even reserve graders need a hug every now and then. If they make their tackles and don't drop the ball that's okay.
