TIGERS’ rugby league Grand Final teams this Sunday at ANZ Stadium are sprinkled with Balmain junior products.

Thirteen members of Paul Fletcher’s Balmain-Ryde Eastwood squad were discovered in Balmain’s Junior League competition.

They include Billy Callaway and Junior Rogica (Concord-Burwood Wolves); Matt Ryan and Dean Webster (North Ryde Hawks); Jared Farlow and Ben Falcone (Leichhardt Wanderers); David Gower, Eloni Vunakece and Liam Roach (Holy Cross Rhinos); Steve Moses and Brett Peacock (Carlingford Cougars); Josh Lewis (Leichhardt Juniors) and Sioeli Makaui (Dundas Shamrocks).

Peacock - a three time premiership winner with Steve James’ mighty Cougars sides - also won an U/19s title last season with Shamrocks.

The Wests Tigers’ NYC U/20 team will field six Balmain juniors in their Grand Final line up - skipper Darren Nicholls and lock Matt Hyland (Holy Cross Rhinos); Aaron Woods and Patrick Politoni (Leichhardt Juniors); Joel Jackson (Leichhardt Wanderers) and David Fifita (Dundas Shamrocks).
not bad for a comp that many think do not supply juniors for wests tigers

Where did Andrew Fafita come from then? I'd have thought he played juniors with his brother…

There both from Griffith ….........not that far from Dundas really.......as the crow fly's

**Officials for this Grand Final**

**Referee:** Adam Gee…thank God it's not Gavin West

**Sideline Officals:** David Ryan & Brenden Wood

**In Goal Judges** Matt Hawkins & Grant Atkins

Gee was our reff during the Storm game.

While not great it is like you said, at least it's not West.

Gee tends to allow a bit more time in the PTB area and lets the game go a bit more

So the Fifita's aren't Balmain Juniors and Sioeli Makaui isn't either thought he was from Keebra Park. They only played for Balmain Juniors when they were dropped back from the Under 20's.

He is still a grub!!
Pulls BRET back 12m and the opposition 9m. add that bias up x 5 for each set and then a period over 80mins.

Still not anywhere near as bad as Gavin West, he would have to be the worst ,bias referee of all time… Seriously....... NO SERIOUSLY..

**Tigers have real chance of final glory**

By Tyson Otto From: The Daily Telegraph Fri Oct 02

BALMAIN-RYDE Tigers have produced one of the great NSW Cup final's charges to qualify for Sunday's Grand Final at ANZ Stadium, finishing sixth and scraping into the finals.

Yet it will have been in vain if they cannot knock over minor premiers, the Bankstown City Bulls, in1 the decider, Tigers' coach Paul Fletcher said.

It took a field goal for the Wests Tigers feeder club to progress to the Grand Final, overpowering the North Sydney Bears 21-20 in the preliminary final.

They have won their previous finals against higher-ranked clubs.

Despite their late-season surge, the Tigers ($4.60) are distant outsiders with TAB Sportsbet to win their first premiership since 1984.

The Bulls are $1.18 favourites.

"Those odds do not bother me," Fletcher said. "No one tipped us to win our first final or the two after that so it has not had an effect on us.

"I'm proud of the boys but there's a game to go."

Fletcher said the Bulldogs feeder team, which includes stars Ben Barba and Matt Utai, had too much depth for his side to just focus on shutting down any one player in particular.

"We have to constrict the entire team and if we get our defence right we won't have to target any of their stars," he said.

Bulls coach Terry Lamb said his side was prepared for a physical encounter with an aggressive Tigers defence and warned his players their reputation would count for nothing.

"All the pressure is on us because we've been out in front all season.

"We just have to be able to produce our best game of the year on Sunday because there'll be two teams out there and whoever produces the goods when it matters most will win."

Ahead of Sunday's clash at the Olympic venue, Lamb singled out Tigers charger and NSW Cup MVP David Gower.

Gower is the one player his team must stop at all costs if they want to take out the premiership.

Kick-off is at 12.10pm.

**Balmain Ryde Eastwood Tigers Vs the Bankstown Bulls GF Preview**

The battle for the 2009 NSW Cup is set to be an intriguing match between two vastly different sides. The Bankstown City Bulls boast a bevy of NRL talent all across the park while the Balmain Ryde-Eastwood Tigers have a highly promising bunch of emerging NRL players.

The Bulls boast a massive forward pack lead by inspirational leader Brad Morrin who will go into Sunday’s Grand Final nursing a niggling rib injury. Balmain’s pack is quite the opposite. Each player possesses the build of a back-rower and has the speed to match. Coach Paul Fletcher will be looking for another damaging performance from back-rower Willie Mataka. Mataka proved to be a real handful for the North Sydney defence last weekend and one would think Ben Barba will be singled out for some special attention on the fringes from the young back-rower.

Bankstown coach Terry Lamb has made only one forced change to his line-up with Pee Wee Moke coming in for the ineligible Daniel Holdsworth. Holdsworth played a ‘Mr fix it’ role for the Bulldogs this year. He filled in for a number of injured Bulldogs throughout the season but unfortunately in doing so, Holdsworth played more NRL matches than NSW Cup games thus ruling him ineligible for Sunday’s Grand Final.

The Tigers will be praying to the Rugby League Gods to keep the rain away from ANZ Stadium until after their match because the Tigers must keep the game up tempo if they want to prevail. The superior kicking game of Josh Lewis must be used to keep the ball in play and constantly turn the massive Bulls pack around. Many teams have tried to take on Bankstown City up the middle and all have failed.

**Results this season:**
Round 4 – Balmain Ryde-Eastwood 34 defeated Bankstown City Bulls 26 @ The Crest Stadium.
Round 18 – Bankstown City Bulls 48 defeated Balmain Ryde-Eastwood 22 @ Leichhardt Oval.

**Key players**

**Ben Barba** (Bankstown City): The young half was at his attacking best last weekend against Wentworthville scoring two tries as well as creating a few. Has shown throughout the season that he can have minor defensive lapses which he has worked hard on with coach Terry Lamb.

**David Gower (**Balmain Ryde-Eastwood): This rangy front-rower was named 2009 NSW Cup Player of the Year. He has the motor of a lock and the footwork of an outside back. A good performance from him and his front-row partner Al Schirnack will be needed to halt the sizeable Bulls pack.

**Josh Lewis** (Balmain Ryde-Eastwood): Lewis has the ability to win the game for the Tigers purely with his kicking game. Lewis must frustrate the Bulls through field position with his kicks in general play. If he can keep drilling the corners inside the Bulls 20 metre area and demoralise the big Bulls pack, his forwards will have the ammunition they need to prevail.

**Brent Crisp** (Bankstown City): Crisp’s positional play must be perfect to counteract the Lewis kicking game. Lewis has produced a number of 40/20’s throughout the season including one last weekend in the preliminary final. Crisp’s goal kicking is also crucial for his side. He bagged 11/11 in one match this season but last weekend against Wentworthville Crisp kicked 4/8.
