Grant confident Elijah Taylor will shine

Mon 9th May, 02:55PM

Having played with him previously in his career, Wests Tigers big man Tim Grant believes the signing of Elijah Taylor will be a huge boost to his side's forward pack.

The 28-year-old Grant — who himself joined Wests Tigers this season after a release from the South Sydney Rabbitohs — said that Taylor's arrival at the Club from the Penrith Panthers will prove to be a key addition this season, labelling the former New Zealand international forward as one of the best players he's played alongside in his 10-year career to date.

"We're getting some players back from injury this week and we've signed Elijah Taylor which is a great move for us," Grant said. "I think he's a world-class player.

"He brings so much experience and professionalism and has a great work ethic.

"If you're a young guy at this Club, which there's a lot of, you don't have to look to far to see what it takes to be an international representative and a regular first-grade player — all you have to do is look at ET [Elijah Taylor] and see what he does day-to-day.

"He's tough and he always puts the team first, which is what you want in a teammate.

"He's got all the attributes that you look for in a key player and I think he'll be really good for us here at the Club in the forwards and also with our young guys," he said.

"We've been training so hard over the past month, and that win against South Sydney was really important for us. We took a good hard look at some of the little things we'd been glossing over lately and we got them right, and we're just focussed now on producing that kind of performance again against the Bulldogs on Sunday."

Ivan Cleary once said Taylor is the most professional footballer he has ever seen, let hope it rubs off on some of our blokes.

Sounds like he'll line up against the Dogs and why wouldn't he? Only question is where does he play? I say throw him straight in the starting 13, but he'll most likely be named on the bench. I can see him being named 18th or 19th man and people losing it. If he's named, he'll play.

I have high expectations for this guy. I'm hopeful he can be defensively really strong and minimise our mid game slumps.

GNR - I can't see him making the starting side but I'd play him at 13\. It's not a big deal though. Let him prove himself off the bench.

I think he proved himself with 10 tests for NZ and 100+ FG games

He should be straight into our starting team at lock

Hopefully ETs professionalism rubs off on a majority of our squad.
Should be straight into our 17 this week.

That to me is a no brainer, but I don't pick the team.

I cant explain how stoked I am with this signing. Really think he's going to do wonders for our forward pack. Big motor, great defender and can hit. FINALLY!!! a signing that I don't think anyone could say a bad word about.

Yep like above posters are saying you don't play 100 first grade games and 10 tests by being a chump. Hope to see him in the team.

Dene Halatau has played over 230 NRL games and 15 Tests and he isn't far from being chump material

Lets hope he is a massive upgrade on Dene 😛ray:

Perhaps because Dene is 33 and Taylor is 26 and in his prime

If happy doesn't like u you're dirt..unlike Nathan 'Renouf' Milone…

If Taylor can match the value Grant has bought to the Wests Tigers we'll be doing OK...Elijah Taylor was very impressive in the residents game on the weekend his work rate in defence is far and away that of most of our current Pack...His lines in attack and ball work wasn't to shabby either...

If he can take some of the workload off Farah all the better for us

Dene's prime was a 12 week period in 2005

I haven't knocked Taylor at all Geo

Someone brought something up and I responded

Dene's been massive for the club since we brought him back , hey ??

3 decent (and I mean decent , not good ) games at best

It's going to get harder and harder to get into our NRL side and we'll have some good players running around in State Cup. The extra competition for spots can only be a good thing and I'm hoping that, as time goes on and as I've said before, there won't be any shame attached to playing in our State Cup side.

One of the best signings we've had for a long time. Great defender and plenty of class. So glad we were patient and didn't blow our money in desperation months ago.

I hope Taylor comes to our club with the same plan as Grant , fresh Start and wants to play first grade , if he gets back to his best it will only be all positive for the club , he defends well and if you stop teams putting on points then half the battle is won , we have players that can produce points , I don't think he will play this next game but the one after I can see him on the bench
Grant and Taylor could be our best buys for a while

Playing Taylor this week is a priority this is a big game for the team .. Win this one then Newcastle at Cambo ,roll into the Origin period and things could be very different within the month .Bums on seats alone on Sunday with a positive addition to the team is a positive as well, interesting to see how JT approaches this.
