I'm glad you are all so impressed ….. It all sounds akin to a speech made by a politician to win over the party faithful to me. We have just lost the best player the Wests Tigers have had .... Sorry I can't bring myself to be happy about all the rhetoric that goes with it.

He was offered a very very good deal….HE chose to leave.

WE didnt lose him,,,,HE left

No player is bigger than the club, Tauber and Marshall have just discovered this.

Very selective there Ink …. No mention of the issues with Potter in your assessment above.
Anyway you got your way .... Again !
Last year you advocated a change in the head coach as a remedy and the last time I checked the team is still running closer to last than first. And now your all over a silver tail blow in spruiking all the rhetoric that goes with a new incumbent trying to make an impression.

Oh well, lets see what happens from here. Whether all the "stars" in the kiddies cup fill the void or whether we just dig ourselves a hole the size of Parramatta. And as we know from our experience of 1983 onwards its a hole that takes an eternity to get out of .... If your lucky enough to get out of it all that is.

IF he has issues with Potter, he as a so called professional should put those to one side, Potter himself stated he didnt come to WTs to be best buds with anyone, hes here to be a coach.

I also dont recall ever stating a new head coach would all of a sudden see us rise to a top four team, Im pretty sure most people here would be sick to death of my opinion that it will take Potter 3 years

And now your all over a silver tail blow

huh?

I think your anger is misdirected Knuckles

Didn't write anything about top four mate. The point I am making is you advocated a change in coach all last year and to now it has made no difference. Now we've got a change in CEO and we find ourselves losing one of our favourite sons …. GREAT !!!

So with the money we save we can spend it on kids who may or may not make the grade.
And we are all meant to be impressed with the new CEO !!!

Oh well, lets see what happens ..... I hope this time next year when we are leading the comp and the next Andrew Johns is showing Knuckles how stuck in his ways he is in his line of thinking that you are reminding me of our conversation tonight.

But this old Magpie goes to bed tonight very down in the dumps.

Did you expect change to be instant?

You keep saying we should have kept Benji…..but why? What do you think about his recent form?

wow…save that post and look at it in 2 or 3 years time. This is about the LONG term. We're clearing out the crap, bringing in the GOOD. ignore the ones who haven't played first grade you STILL have tonnes of talent in woods, sue, buchanan, nofo, koro, simona, teddy and sirro. Then you can start on brooks, moses, santi etc.

We recruited a new coach who inherited a team with some quite poor recent recruits, who's first season has been decimated by injury, he has had to mould a team of juniors whle the board has squabbled, the CEO resigned- one section of the JV distance itself, another half of the JV try to deal with its licensed club redevlopment disaster, hes tried and imo earned the respect of the playing group who have faith in him, he's had to deal with all this all while contract negs of the clubs two biggest players have been ongoing during his first year, he had the death of a promising junior to deal with at the start of the year

As a ROOKIE NRL coach hes had a fair bit dumped on his plate in his first year, I think hes done an exceptional job thus far.

Yeah, onfield rsults I guess it looks like not much has changed….it rarely does change overnight unless youre the Roosters with Ucle Nick and their accountants.

Anything worthwhile is never easy, and rarely quick.

If you couldnt see a change in coach and CEO (among others) was desperately reqd...then I think youre looking at this with heart over head

No place for sentiment in professional sport, thats for the memory, DVDs and scrapbooks

how can anyone honestly believe marshall is worth MORE than 750k a year? its insane. more than insane.

benji has an inflated ego. i dont blame him, he has been the poster boy for a long time. but HE chose to leave with 2 years to run on his contract for $1.5 million dollars. sorry, as much as i once loved him he's an outright lunatic.

Asked the other day, but does anyone have any info on mayer's background? Couldnt find anything on him on the internet. Very interested to compare him to someone like Dave Smith who appears to be making innane decisions while Mayer is obviously not and he appears to be from a non-footy background but i'm not sure.

I agree, all this crap about clean up and blah blah, reality where bottom of the table, 2 years ago we were a top 4 team with a new coach. One senior player who when playing rep we have no senior players

its potters first year bla bla

anyone who thinks marshall wasnt offered a fair price is clearly living in the memory of 2005
he has put on muscle and weight to reduce the risk of injury, and that worked, but as a result he has lost plenty of acceleration and the top speed has significantly dropped, all good players when faced with this issue would change their game play style; look at JT, once was a player capable of cutting through the line now is a ball player, locky from flb to 5/8\. marshall was not capable of changing his game style, sheens knew he had to change marshall to keep him relevant hence playing him in 7, marshall couldnt adapt, and as a result was not worth the amount he wanted.

its not about money, he cried. BS, if he was offered the extra 2 years (contracted till 2017) he would of jumped at it, thats money.

mayer, from what i have seen/heard of him is a very capable person, he faces the issue front on, not hiding the truth from the fans. the letter to me says, marshall wants to leave and we wont be standing in his way, this is why we are letting him go (brooks moses et al.)

potter has worked wonders with the crap he has inherited, he has over come mass injuries, we have maxed out our 2nd tier salary cap but it is not publicized like penriths, we lose a key player in galloway early and for long term and our juniors have stood up and gained some extremely valuable experience which will be very helpful for the next few years. he has helped players out the door; marshall moltzen ayshford pettybourne and has tried his best to remove blair. he has found blairs best position. he has not only broken but destroyed the boys club mentality which is the biggest issue to the club. people want miracles from him, we wont win a premiership this year, or next year. 2015 i would say we are pretty damn good odds to be in the final 4, and i would say that those odds will remain that good for the long term due to the youth and experience of our spine, the speed of our outside backs and we will attract better names for the forwards as we perform well. potter is picking players on form, sheens would never dare to bench benji, dropping various fringe players, rewarding juniors who perform well, what more do you want from a young coach? oh thats right what about some fantastic signings and some even more promising re-signings?

the more the season goes on the more i appreciate potter and the work he is doing

And how would you rate Benji's performance over the last 18 months?

Worth top dollar marquee money?

Whilst this year he has been well below par, your forgetting that Marshall was close to leading, if not leading the league in try assists and Line Break assists last year. Alot of people fail to realise this

I'm not forgetting anything, I have mentioned those assist stats many times on this forum as have others, its quite a well known stat actually. Sadly when I mentioned them they were in support on Marshall and his ability to play halfback…..

You can't escape that even with those assists he was grossly ineffective for the money being paid.

I hope you people are right about Mayer and what is going on at the moment. To me, his press statement above is calculated and shrewd. Slimy is the word that comes to my mind.

It seems clear to me that the club has achieved the outcome that it wanted all along - I don't for a moment believe that management is disappointed to see Benji go. Don't forget that this is the same club that couldn't retain Scott Prince, that shafted Hodgo (and still haven't replaced him, was it Moltzen who was 'the future' in fullbacks?), that exchanged Fifita and Gibbs for Adam Blair and lost Heighno and Ryan as well along the way.

Now it's Benji who doesn't fit into our grand plans apparently. I hope the plan works, the track record ain't much good.

I also hope that Benji does well wherever he ends up. He has been an ornament to the game and a great servant of our club and of Rugby League in general. I think we should all remember that. In an era where the game has become so 'structured' (formularised) that you can barely tell one team from another, he added the unlikely and at times miraculous.

We won't see his like again, and the game is the greatest loser in all of this.
