Great Spirit shown by Shannon McDONNELL

Junior Burger had a very good game yesterday. You have to admire his determination and spirit. Congratulations on a great game Shannon. In a couple of weeks the other Shannon will be making his mark as well.

All going well for the two Shannons.

Shannon was always a better player than a lot gave him credit for. If had made his debut when we had a stronger squad he could have turned into a very strong fullback.

Wish him the best of luck and think he will do well at the Knights. Also wish the other Shannon well. He has a tough tussle to get a first grade spot up there. Hopefully he will get a few opportunities before Bowen returns.

he played good, but really thats what you expect from a FG player, unforunatly for shannon he has more average games then good

I don't think that that was true when he was at the tigers. He looked like a quality fullback.

No idea why he copped it on here a lot.

Agree Tiger05\. In fact, in his first few games (when he was playing fullback) Shannon was one of, if not the, best on the park. I remember a Friday night game in which he was awesome in a narrowly (I think) beaten side.

i think you guys are thinking of the other shannon lol

I would seriously prefer Fitzy, and that's saying something

cleaning up a stupid kick by idris doesn't mean he had a good game.

That was against Parra …..when Rabs went into raptures comparing McDonnell's pace to that of an Olympic sprinter.......

Good Luck to McDonnell....great win by the Knights,,,,,

That sounds right Geo. He was everywhere that night - both in defence and attack. His record in reggies etc suggests he has the talent to succeed. I, for one, hope he does.

No Ron. It certainly wasnt Gallant. As good as he can look in a winning side, I have never seen Gallant play well in a beaten side.

Gallant is a good player however I thought McDonnell might have more potential. I also know the difference between the two and do not confuse them.

Anyway I hope they both do well against everyone except the tigers.

Gallant is a very decent player. His problem has been, and always will be, his size and the subsequent defensive deficiencies. In a winning side that is generally never a liability. But in a side that is struggling, it tends to show up.

The way McDonnell plays he needs more size. He doesnt have any great timing when attacking and finds himself in awkward positions, someone like Gallant is the opposite and gets away with his size because he has a great attacking sense and finds himself naturally avoiding players rather than finding the collision like MacDonnell.

McDonnell gave the Tigers a serve in todays paper too.

As I recall he made one great run up the guts to score but also conceded a try or two due to his poor kick handling and unsure tackling. I wish the bloke well but I really didn't lose any sleep over losing him. He went a bit better on the wing for us but he didn't show too much. Some of his post game comments about us looked to be a bit unneccessary…

Yossarian I dont think anybody is saying they are losing sleep over losing him, simply that he was better than the bagging he copped by fans suggested.

Didnt see those comments. Disappointing if true.

I dont disagree re McDonnell but do re Gallant. In a few games, he got noticeably caught out a the back because of his size. Big heart and good player but I dont think he gets away with it at all.

I would have liked to have seen McDonnell get a better chance at fullback. I dont think wing suited him at all.

That all being said, I think the club currently has better options.

I was specifically referring to general play attack rather than all round game. I should have noted that. U know Gallant will hit the right hole and slide between defenders, but i have no faith in McDonnell ever running the right line.

Which paper? What did he say?
