Grit vs Class

Their line speed was unbelievable they were on our guys before we could get anything going.
Plus we did a lot of DUMB things there last night, played dumb footy.
Our kicking game was bad, but that's what happens when you have the 5th tackle in the attacking 40, bomb and pray.

That’s a pretty good assessment I reckon.
They thwarted our attack through very fast line speed. We were constantly under pressure. We were always kicking on the 5th from 40m out. Conversely, they rolled through the middle and were making huge yardage leading to attacking 5th tackle kicks. I don’t know the stats and only saw the game from a crap seat on the try line but it seemed we were always starting an attacking set from our 10m and they were always starting from their 30m. They had positional advantage all night.
POSITIVE: Despite this dominance, we only conceded 2 tries

We were out played but didn't get 50 put on us like previous years, not many teams are going to take 2 points away from their home games.
A big advantage of having a HOME ground, a fortress where opposition teams fear.
I wouldn't change the team much for the Bulldogs game, Mahe in for MCK (bench)Aloiai in for HIA Sue.

Agree except Reynolds at 14

Defensively in the last 40 we were great

But we were stupid with the ball beyond belief

Our attack looked 2000-2017 , absolute garbage , **no control , no one took control**

But we will pay for it next week ,

I think Brooks was trying to take control but just got frustrated out of the game by errors out of his control. You can't take control when every time you have the ball somebody gifts it back to the opposition.

You tell them to get to the last tackle , no stupid crap and we kick for field position and get ourselves back in the grind

Your aiming if possible to get to a spot to get a attacking kick in firstly and if not just getting to the kick

What about a second hooker and a replacement for Benji? Taylor and Benji disjointed our attack (whenever we had the few chances to attack). Benji 's kicking was abysmal.

I believe we had more kick metres than the riff… the chase on the other hand normally led by Brooks n Lawrence. . .meh...

More than one or two penalties given away for taking the catcher in the air...well when the chasers got there that is..

To limit Penrith scoring in the 2nd half is good i guess...

We have no attack basically because we lack speed and power and our spine is bog average. Till Liddle can play 80 minutes, and we have we jag a class no1 and get a proper no6 our attack will be pop gun stuff. Also a quality back row or two would help

I don’t want to single players out but I think Corey Thompson epitomises our team at the moment, so much heart and tenacity but does not have real attacking flair.

He can finish off a set play and defend like a demon but adds minimal to our attack. Would love to see him on a wing with a quality attacking, ball playing fullback chiming in.

We look one dimensional in attack and unfortunately with Benji dropping off week after week our opposition knows pretty much every attacking raid is coming from Brooks.

Thompson is also dependable with a near flawless game. Tui might provide what you are looking for.

I thought last night we needed more offloads to stick a break or a 40 20\. Every time they tried something and error came so they went back to one out hit ups.
We have a team who can offload but their is rarely support.
Also Penrith were much better than they have been last few weeks. But one line break could have changed the game. In the SH we only recieved a penalty with a few minutes to go while Penrith had a few to give them field position. So the game developed into us rucking it out and they attacking and we held a good team out. This is where a support player running off an offload could have changed things. But while Penrith had many in support and took the low down offloads we rarely had anyone in support and when we did he fumbled it.
We weren't that far off.
Some changes need to be made.

Totally agree Magic but I don’t think Tui is our answer either because what he gives you over Thompson in attack he loses in defence and overall tenacity.

We made too many handling errors which as you said resulted in going back to one out hit ups. It’s going to be a long wait until the team is announced on Tuesday to see what changes IC makes but I hope he has something up his sleeve.

Problem I see with changes though is there isn’t much in the cupboard to select.

We need Benji to play less minutes because his fatigue factor is erasing the class he should be bringing - and better decisions.

Might be a way off yet though, with Reynolds lacking any match fitness.

Unfortunately as it stands that's about all the class we have at present…

On that. I'm wondering if he's getting enough sleep with his new little one. His decision making has dropped off a cliff since the bub came along. Might be the broken sleep.

i think we'll finish around 7-10 this year
same next year
the best we'll get to is 7th with the squad that we have now

True, but for all we know he may have done that. He certainly exhibited more frustration with other players than I've ever seen from him.

Not many sides would have beat Penrith last night.
Our attack was pretty ordinary and I mentioned early in the live thread that we didn't look like getting over the line, but Penrith defense was outstanding.

Actually in our losses to NZ and Penrith nobody would have beaten them imo. And even Newcastle probably played their best for the year as well as Parramatta when they beat us.
Still think they will make finals. But expected more second phase by now so we need to get some support players in there. Reynolds Tui and Fanoua will help.

We currently have the equal 2nd worse record from our last 5 games (1-4)

Along with Manly (1-4 )and Titans (0-5)

I think we could well go 2-0 next couple of weeks.

What are the Dogs..?

I just had a look at our draw. Based on what we’ve shown this year I think we can finish in 30 points.
Currently on 12.
Dogs - win
Roosters - win (they will be origin affected)
Sharks
Raiders - win
Titans - win
Bye - 2 points
Dragons
Rabbits
Dogs - win
Knights - win
Raiders - win
Dragons
Eagles - win
Rabbits
Based on that we should make the 8.
Thoughts??
