Shame for Dene hope he gets back on his feet asap

I don't think this will affect Potter's selection headaches for Round 1 , didn't see him in our top 17 unless Fulton is still injured

Still haven't heard why Fulton didn't play last night .

Very unfortunate injury for he and the team. Hopefully his freshness will add something to the team when he comes back. Head up mate.

Yeah not good. Let's just hope he makes a good recovery. Even though everyone is aware of the risks, it must be extremely frustrating to do all that hard work in the offseason and go out for a significant time in the first trial.

Injury Update - Dene Halatau

Sunday 9 February 2014 11:58 AM

Scans have confirmed Wests Tigers utility Dene Halatau will endure a lengthy stint on the sideline after suffering an ankle injury in last night’s trial match against Penrith.

The results of the scans showed Halatau suffered a broken ankle, as well as a syndesmosis injury and will miss between four to five months of football.

The injury occurred in the 58th minute of the match, with Halatau taking a hit-up close to the Panthers line.

It was a cruel blow in what was the experienced forward’s first game back in Wests Tigers colours since 2009.

Halatau will undergo surgery on his left ankle tonight.

The injury was disappointing on an otherwise positive trial match for Wests Tigers, with Mick Potter’s side scoring a 32-8 victory over the Panthers at Kirkham Oval.

Wish Dene the best in recovery via his official Twitter account @DeneHalatau

Could have been worse. Jordon Kahu did his ACL for the 3rd time.

That's just unbelievable

That means in the opening trial 3 of the last 4 years he has done his ACL

What are the odds ??

Poor bugger , you have to feel sorry for the kid

i hope he drives an automatic.
thanks ink for teaching me how to add the image.

WESTS Tigers utility Dene Halatau has been ruled out for at least four months after breaking his left ankle in the 32-8 NRL trial win over Penrith.
>
After a very disappointing 2013, the Tigers started the new year in positive fashion with a comprehensive win over a below-strength Panthers outfit.
>
But the victory was soured by the injury to Halatau, who was taken off on a stretcher in the 58th minute after falling awkwardly in a tackle at Camden's Kirkam Oval in his first game back with the Tigers after five seasons at Canterbury.
>
“Dene has broken his ankle and torn ligaments in his ankle. It looks like it is at least a four-month injury,” Tigers coach Mick Potter said.
>
“It's unfortunate and he will probably get it operated on during the week, if not next week.
>
“He leaves a hole for us. He can play anywhere from hooker, five-eighth, in the back-row, at lock. He is one of those valuable pieces of the puzzle that we are going to miss.
>
“Someone else will have to do the job now; someone else will have to fill the void.”
>
The Tigers had a wretched run with injuries last year and Halatau, a 2005 premiership winner with the club, joins utility Tim Moltzen on the sidelines for an extended period.
>
Moltzen broke his kneecap at training in December but his initial prognosis has improved and he is expected back mid-season. The Tigers were impressive before a ground record of 5042 fans, running in three tries in the first 20 minutes through Chris Lawrence, Curtis Sironen and David Nofoaluma to lead 14-0 at the first drinks break after one successful conversion from Pat Richards.
>
Against a Panthers side missing recruits Jamie Soward, Peter Wallace, Brent Kite and Jamal Idris, the Tigers then ran in two tries in the 15 minutes after half-time through James Gavet and Keith Lulia to lead 26-0.
>
Penrith finally scored in the 60th minute through Isaac John, before Cory Paterson hit back for the Tigers three minutes later and Panthers centre Etonia Nabulia rounded out the scoring just before full-time.
>
“I think we had six sets before they had the ball so we started with a bang,” Potter said.
>
“We were resilient in defence, they showed that it mattered too and that is something we have been working on over the pre-season.
>
“I was very pleased with the attitude but you don't want to get too carried away — it is only a trial.”
>
Panthers coach Ivan Cleary was disappointed with Penrith's effort.
>
“We got off on the wrong foot, they came out pretty hard and it was tough going from then on, especially when you have a lot of guys who haven't played a lot of first grade,” he said.
>
“In the end, it was a hit-out for us, a few of the guys got their first games under their belt but we were outplayed.”
>
Tim Grant, Sam McKendry and Matt Moylan all had solid hit-outs for Penrith as did recruit Tyrone Peachey in the back-row.
>
Veteran Braith Anasta led the Tigers well around the park and young gun Nofoaluma showed he was set to pick up where he left off last year with his blistering pace on display frequently in attack and defence, eyecatchingly when he ran down Josh Mansour from behind to stop a certain try.
>
In other trial news, Newcastle smashed the First Nations Goannas 52-12 at Hunter Stadium before a crowd of 6826.
>
At Anzac Oval in Alice Springs, Parramatta defeated a second-string Tigers outfit 60-14.

Fingers crossed we don't have another injury plagued year. Very unlucky and hope Halutau recovers ahead of schedule.

Bit worrying that as it stands, Galloway, Brooks, Farah, Fulton and Moltzen are all injured.

I do feel sorry for him, he's supposed to be a talen but at this stage his career is going nowhere. Also mindful that he was supposed to come to us originally, so we may have dodged a bullet.

With ACLs I always think of poor David Seage from Newcastle, was going to be the next Robbie O, but every time he tried to step he'd pop his ACL. Literally 12 months rehab, one game and he'd go down. Now playing up in QLD, it seems reduced impact and intensity has helped him retain some fitness.

Timmy Moltzen is starting to enter this same category, of dudes who get injured without being touched, just body break-downs. 2 x ACLs is bad, but I still can't believe he broke his kneecap without contact. I have terrible knees and know all about ongoing knee issues, but to break a bone without being hit… crazy.

Shouldn't be playing matches on a pitch like Kirkham Oval.

We're sitting around going "Ho-Hum… we are cursed". Wondering why people are getting injured all the time. Has anyone here heard of the Saipan Incident??

Meanwhile... Other well performing clubs are training on match class pitches that looked after by professional groundsmen...

It's tragic for Dene I really feel for the guy. But it might not necessarily be a bad thing for the side. IMO we'd suffer having both Fulton and Halatau in the same 17 due to their lack of size. I'd feel more comfortable carrying a bigger bench that isn't going to get rolled by the bigger packs or lose momentum due to interchanges.
