Halves pairings

I think when you are looking at a 5/8 or half u need to look at the pairing to actually rate them (if that makes sense) many great halves have looked less impressive when taken from a partner eg Ricky Stuart, Scott prince etc. so how do u rate the tigers halves overall, I think in comparison with other teams we will do ok.

Marshall and Lui would have become Gold together but for Luis stupidity.
Moltzen will get there…....with time,he's already a better defender than Lui.

My 4yo is a better defender then lui. And he is already being schooled e.g tigers are the best and don't hit women

Moltzens defence in the halves is first class…He has made a number of try saving tackles....I just wish his attack would lift..maybe it will in the coming weeks!

Well I rate Foran and DCE better ,Widdup and cronk better ,Thurston and Thompson better, Maloney and his partner at the Warriors better (having a senior moment) ,Gidley and Mullen better and as equals I rate Hornby and Soward ,Campese and McCrone,Reynolds and Hodgkinson equals

Obviously this is only judged on from the first three weeks

I'm only going to compare against the teams we've played:

Sharks: Graham/Carney. Carney kept them afloat all game, and Graham wasn't nearly as threatening. Same could be said for us, with Benji starring while Moltzen went off with injury and was otherwise relatively quiet. Guess you could say it was an even match up given the end result;
Manly: DCE/Foran. They were easily better. DCE was a standout from that game, and Foran did enough to keep us guessing.
Dragons: Soward/Hornby. We were embarrassed by them, they were solid and Moltz/Benji were close to diabolical. I'd have to say they were both better on the night.

Our halves are up there with the worst in the comp imo.Marshall is world class but has mistakes in him and moltzen stuuters the attack. The sooner we have a dominant half the sooner we'll in the comp again.

I have just watched a fox head to head game from 2008 tigers v dragons, farah at half back and very effective, wonder if that would be worth revisiting??

I've no idea why it hasn't been. If Farah had have moved to halfback permanently we could have given free path for a bloke like Isaac De Gois to be our hooker and Farah would no doubt have gone on to be the NSW halfback. I'm serious.

We just need a forward pack to hold there own and the halves will do the job.

It was tried and didn't work. Also Farah is slower than a lot of halves out there and I'm unsure if he could play there and play well consistently. Add to that Farah's lack of ability in taking the right option and this is far from a sure bet.

Still - given more time it might have been the best option.

Moltzen has had three games @ half, the injuries we have had havent helped. Our big men have to go forward & when they do we will be right, but @ the moment we have to stick with Moltzen @ half & when Robbie is back he stays @ hooker.

1\. Moltzen
6 Marshal
7\. Farah
9\. Trail politoni for the next two games.

Please sheens do it, we'll be a better team.

If you look at all the Halves Pairings in the Competition you will find a common denominator. One is a Zip Zip/Creative/Match Winner and the other is a Domestic.

Depending which plays which role it is important to ensure the balance is there. We have this amazing bloke at 6, but when it comes to running a team, he is terrible. We need a Domestic 7 and I'm not convinced Moltzen is that person. He too is a Zip Zip style of player and I feel it is the main reason we tend to have this continual sideways movement and our Centres are getting no room.

I'm happy to let it play out over the next few weeks, but by Round 10, we need to be going forward and be settled.

You have a point Watty….I tend to think the same way

zip zip - domestic
DCE ---- Foran
Cronk ---Widdop
Soward - Hornby
Johnson - Maloney

Maybe this is why Sheens is telling Moltz to do nothing

It would help if ONE of our halves had a decent kicking game. Beau Ryan seems the best kick on the entire team!!!
