Hannant keen to let sleeping dogs lie, NRL investigate.

From all of the comments in the media about the clubs resolution, I think Hannant must have said some choice comments also…things he does not want out in the media

Let's face it. Gibbs is a liability, gives away stupid penalties, and carries on 'like a good sort' if things don't go his way.
I hope he gets what is coming to him!

Unfair.Gibbs is playing great this year. Glad to have him in the team.

He called Hannant a Mormon. He is a Mormon, whats the problem?

You don't know what he said. I am sure Hannant would not have got so upset if it had just been that!
Have a look at the game replay and see how he carried on when things did not go his way. He carried on like a spoiled brat.
I like a forward with a bit of 'mongrel' in him but I can't condone undisciplined behavior that can cost a teen the game.

Yeah - just a case of "Lets call a spade a spade" - I'am sure that's what Bryces thinking was. I'm sure there was no derogatory or expletive adjective before the word Morman.

lol.

This is all I get from Hannant in recent stories in the media is the following:

"Waaaaa… I'm homesick..."
"Waaaaa... I'm worth $150,000 more..."
"Waaaaa... He made fun of me..."

I think he's turning into a serial sook.

All he has to do to get Gibbs back is wake up him up by knocking on his door at a rude hour on Sunday morning...

WESTS Tigers prop Bryce Gibbs has escaped a charge for the alleged religious slur he made against Canterbury's Ben Hannant in the Bulldogs' 24-4 NRL win on Friday night.
>
The Bulldogs made no formal complaint under the league's anti-vilification code, but the match review committee was reportedly to listen to referees' audio of the incident to determine if any other action would be taken.

Gibbs' name did not appear on the committee's list of charges today, but he may yet be fined by the NRL if there is sufficient evidence.

Canberra's David Shillington has been charged with a grade one careless high tackle but will escape a ban.

Brisbane's Matt Gillett has been charged with dangerous contact with the legs/feet.

He will escape suspension if he enters the early guilty plea and miss one match if he unsuccessfully defends the grade one charge at the NRL judiciary.

Religiously slandered????

That is the gayest thing i've heard in years. Hannant needs to either harden up or else leave the nrl and go play soccer with all the other winging sooks.

+1, well said Sir.

I _hate_ the Bulldogs, but Ben Hannant seems like one of the best blokes in the NRL and bashing him just because Gibbs plays for our team is ridiculous. We don't know what was said, but if it made Hannant react the way he did it mustn't have been too good. Hannant does NOT need to harden up, he's not making a big deal about this - the media are. He just reacted to something that insulted him the way anyone else would.

It's good to see that it seems to have been left on the field, which is what both Hannant and Gibbs wanted along with the two clubs.

just fired off an mail to the NRL:

Dear Mr Gallop

I am writing in relation to and requesting an explanation as to why Bryce Gibbs is being investigated regarding the alleged incident on Friday night. I ask as Billy Slater a few weeks ago was also alleged to have sledged a Newcastle player about his mental health and despite it being clear on the TV audio this was NOT investigated. This is without an explanation from the NRL to most fans especially Tigers a massive double-standard. As a paying club member whose family invests a lot of time and money supporting my club and the NRL your response will go a long way to making my decision whether this will continue. There are lots of other sports we follow but without the financial investment at the moment and I have 4 kids who are all at the ages where they are making these kinds of choices.

I like the little threat at the end of the email where you're basically implying you will switch to another sport.

I wonder if that will panic Gallop into sending a response back to you as soon as possible.

geez amazing these guys get paid hundreds of thousands of dollars a year and they let a bit of slander upset them..

seriously these guys should be able to suck it up and deal with it… they are not kids.. geez u could call me the worst name in the world i just tell u to F off idiot and leave it at that

Hannant should just shrug it off and leave it.. rather then get all fired up for what?

Maybe Gibbs told Hannant he looks like Gary Busey?

Gallop will probably have a laugh reading that.

Hannant just wants to move on
By Josh Massoud From: The Daily Telegraph April 20, 2010 12:00AM

THE prospect of facing off against Bryce Gibbs in a private mediation was a factor in Ben Hannant's decision not to lodge an official complaint about being religiously vilified.

After poring over footage of the pair's confrontations in last Friday night's spiteful Bulldogs-Tigers encounter, the NRL match review committee could not find sufficient evidence to charge Gibbs without testimony from the devout Mormon prop.

"We went through the tape and looked carefully at every frame where Hannant and Gibbs come together, either in tackles or in a scrum," committee chairman Greg McCallum said. "From that footage, we could see no evidence and the camera angle at the end of the game only showed Hannant being upset.

"It didn't show who he was talking to."

Gibbs has steadfastly declined to comment about what remarks were made, but it's understood the first tensions erupted in an earlier scrum.

A Bulldogs insider told The Daily Telegraph that Hannant had offered Gibbs the loose- head when the Tigers had the feed, prompting the Wests bookend to chirp: "That's typical of you Mormons - always wanting to be everyone's mate."

Hannant, however, refused to pass on any information to the NRL because he's more concerned about moving on than seeing Gibbs sanctioned.

"Ben didn't really want it to come to that … he just wants to leave it in the past and get on with playing football," the Bulldogs insider said.

But NRL boss David Gallop stressed the lack of further action was by no means a message that future incidents involving vilification would go unpunished. He added that he was "frustrated" the issue was not resolved.

"That's typical of you Mormons - always wanting to be everyone's mate."

What's wrong with that…...FACT

The biggest problem with this issue for us Tigers fans is the obvious double standards from the NRL. Some people might call Gibbs a grub but what he did and has done in the past fails in comparison to what Slater has done. At least Bryce hasn't kicked anyone in the head intentionally. I think Ben Hannant and the NRL need to suck it up and get on with it.

I'm a big fan of Gibbs and I'm happy that he has taken his game to another level this season that has made him one of the form front rowers in the competition.

I'm not going to excuse him on this though.

Why he needed to resort to such comments though is beyond me. Race, religion and any other influential issues like this should be left at home. The Rugby League field is no place for Gibbs to be questioning or abusing an individuals beliefs and values just because he does not agree with them. Gibbs also really needs to think about what affect his comments may have on some of the juniors that might look up to him in the lower grades who also have a strong (if not stronger) bond to there religion than Hannant has.

I'm hoping that the club has really pulled Bryce into line as some things are best unsaid in my opinion.

Let your football do the talking Bryce.
