Hasler wary of Tigers' attack

Canterbury are fearing a Wests Tigers ambush in Friday night's NRL blockbuster as the wounded one-time premiership favourites look to rebound from back-to-back losses.
>
Things couldn't be going better out Belmore way following the Bulldogs' last-up win over runaway ladder leaders Melbourne, a victory which solidified their push for a top-four finish.
>
The Tigers, on the other hand, have stumbled with consecutive defeats, but pointing to the form they showed in the seven-game win streak that preceded those results, Bulldogs' coach Des Hasler remained wary.
>
"They're a very clinical side," Hasler said.
>
"You've only got to go through the playing roster to know they're a very, very capable side and touted as one of the sides that can win the premiership and I firmly believe that."
>
Defence will be the buzzword at Bulldogs' training this week, given the Tigers' ability to put points on the board in a hurry.
>
"Yeah, and that can be off tackle two, three, four or the last," Hasler said.
>
"You've got to defend well because they ask you so many questions at the line.
>
"Both (Benji) Marshall and (Robbie) Farah, that's their trademark."
>
Someone who knows all about the danger those two players present is Bulldogs' back-rower Dene Halatau, who won a premiership alongside the duo in 2005.
>
"They've got two of the best attackers in the game, I think, in Robbie and Benji," Halatau said.
>
"They test you across the park. We can't have any player lapsing in defence or they'll catch us out.
>
"Our focus should be on ourselves and making sure we've got our defence right."

havent seen one of these be scared of the tigers attack article for a while… expect benji & robbie to have a big game

pfft! Just Hasler making sure his boys have enthusiasm.

His only worry is us showing up to play which we havnt done since the Melb game.

Ha! Did Dessy say we are a "clinical side"? What clinic is that? Did he make these comments after a few drinks?
Dear Dessy - we are worried about your whole team…....

Ditto. If the Tigers aim up in defence I'm sure they'll give it a shake. If they hang back and wait like the last couple of games then it will be over by halftime.

This is obviously Dessies new ploy! He is going to praise every opposition team before each game, and in doing so take the pressure off his own side.

Note to Tim Sheens - these are not nice guys and this game will be a matter of "who wants it more".

A loss will continue our spiral, whilst a win against the odds will do everything for our confidence particularly if we can hold them to less than 12 points.

as stupid as it sounds… if we score more points we win... my teachers always told us, focus on your weakness during the year and focus on your strengths during exams. our strength is attack, atm we are in a do or die situation.. defense imo is all about attitude, if our attack gels, then no side in the comp can score more points than us.

come finals time, attitude won't be a problem, defense won't be that much of a problem.... just need our attack to click, and i think this will be a try scoring fest

History shows you don't win premierships unless your defence is in order. Even in 2005 our defence was excellent.

We defend like we did the last 2 weeks and we may as well just not turn up at all, because we can't outscore defending like that.

our defense can't get any worse.. i understand where you're coming from though, but my point is, we need to focus on our strength atm which is attacking… defense is all about attitude, good line speed, good communication.. attack takes a while to come together, not saying you get better in defense overnight .. hope it's clearer now

Yes, I was having a bit of a chuckle at that too, tg. Dessie's interpretation of 'clinical' differs from mine somewhat

Hassler comes out with a similar comment every week about every team.
As if to say, Hey I'm the new super coach and I'd better humor the little people below me. I don't want all the other coaches to think I'm up myself. Not until I really am a super coach anyway.
I mean clinical….come on...as if

Definition of 'clinical' taken from the Hasler dictionary - people running around in circles without structure, purpose and NFI, accompanied by the ad lib passing of a ball

hahaha I think he meant 'comical'. Not too smart our Desmond.

Lol, old Dessie. Couldn't stop wrapping the storm last week before the game either. Dessie likes to fly under the radar. Newsflash Des, look at our respective postions on the ladder , we all know who the underdog is this week.

We are ranked last in the NRL on missed tackles per game, you are spot on,if we fix our defence we will win.

Hasler should be wary of the tigers , if we click we can really give them a footy lesson , but i agree with others on here defence will be the key , fulton and bell i think can tackle them out of the game , heighno should be our back up defender off the bench
