Having Pearce and Maloney in front of him has allowed him to learn and not be rushed into 1st grade. Unfortunately our boys haven't had that luxury as well as playing behind a pack that couldn't fight its way out of a paper bag. Hastings is plenty tough and has a good kicking game but i didn't notice him run last night. I wouldn't put him ahead of Brooks and Moses, we'll see how he goes next year moving into five eight with Maloney leaving.

Apologies it I am in error.
Can't remember them imposing themselves and turning a game.
Had high hopes but they are fading.
Hastings has a long way to go but for me more quality touches.
Our guys can become decent 1st graders but to me i don't see them becoming way above average enough to turn our fortunes around which is what they need to do to justify our relatively blind faith in them. Lets face it the club is planning the next decade around these two, that's the plan and a very very risky one IMO.
And with the loss of experience next year I'm struggling to generate enthusiasm .

All I know is that I would have all of these guys over Josh Reynolds. How Hasler picks him is beyond belief. Poor decisions in every play and even poorer execution.

Brooks and Moses are doing just fine. I would have Moses and Brooks any day over Hastings.

It's been said before, but it bears repeating. Hastings is a talented player, playing in a great team behind a dominating forward pack, receiving quality front-foot ball.
Pearce and Maloney look like champions playing in that side and off the back of that pack. However, they are nowhere near as composed and influential playing for NSW. The step up in class finds them out.
I saw Hastings play full back in the Australian U20 team earlier this year in a very bruising test match against the Kiwis, which Australia won narrowly. He dropped the first bomb and the Kiwis scored off the repeat set. Not an auspicious start.
I don't recall Hastings doing much in that match. The stand out backs in that test were Robert Jennings and Valentine Holmes. They were a class above all the other backs on the field (with the possible exception of Te Maire Martin).
Time will tell how our halves and Hastings are remembered.

As a junior, I thought he was super talented but was trick shot happy and chased the big play, all the time, to the point of being a little selfish at times. Despite the wraps and obvious talet I thought he'd fade into an impact benchie at best.

I think that missing out on Trent Robinson as a coach is the worst thing that could happen to us. I think he is among the big 3 in what he can get out of a player.
- Not that we were ever (Smart enough to be) in the market, But I'd heard (At the time) that the 2010 Roosters credited him largely for their form that year.
Always hoped we would get him… Even told out CEO back then to chase him... Unfortunately, We were a touch too late.

At this stage of their careers, those comps mean nothing in relation to the NRL.
While I think that they have improved a bit, they are still miles away from what
some (admittedly) over the top supporters were claiming at the beginning of the year .
I still think the lack of any experienced halves , has been their biggest hurdle for them to over come. And it remains to be seen whether there will be any major improvement in that regard next year
No doubt they will improve, but I doubt that they will get to the level that some here have forecast.
Hastings has had the main thing that our blokes missed out on . He's spoken about the help and advice that he's been given from Pearce and Maloney over the season, on and off the field, and he's been used in short spells earlier in the season and introduced the right way into First Grade . When the time came when he was needed, he's not expected to be the main playmaker, as our two have been., but, he's done the job that he's been given well.
Hopefully our blokes will be better players next season, and will receive better coaching, than they did this year
