I have no idea how recent these figures are.

The Tigers biggest weakness is defence so I would use the best middle defender I could find as a lock.
The Tiger forwards are not making as many meters as the top forwards in the comp so we also need a lock that can make meters as a battering ram to make up for that.

Average running meters per game (middle forwards)
Payne Haas 163
David Klemmer 160
James Fisher-Harris 141
Thomas Burgess 149
Josh Aloiai 147
Paul Vaughn 141
Josh Papalii 141

Zane Musgrove 106
Alex Twal 104
Joe Ofahengaue 103
James Tamou 78
Stefano Utoikamanu 76
Thomas Mikale 59

I have no problem with getting Hastings as a backup half or to play lock if in future if we fix our defence and our forwards make a lot more metres.

I don't remember Hastings being that big when playing in Sydney. Probably now more suited to lock/17.

I think this signing will make us as fans nostalgic for Braith anasta and Moses Mbye.

The thing i'm confused by is that we have Mbye already on the books who appears to serve the ball playing utility role very well (and played well there on the weekend). Now we're going to pay presumably half his salary to play elsewhere next year, whilst signing someone to play the exact same role.

Sorry, I must have missed that he has signed elsewhere with us paying half of his salary?

Which club was it?

Maybe we will keep him and sell Brooks?

I think we have some pretty smart blokes running the show now, I believe they’ll get it right.

If Mbye leaves which would makes sense if Hastings is coming, how much freight do you think we'll have to pay? If he's on, say, $800k, do you think anyone is going to pay more than $400k for him? Unlikely.

The blokes running the show signed Joey and extended Nofo for 4 years.

But ..but... Hartigan & Pascoe are the best in the business

I'll be a bit surprised if it happens straight away ......Lammy was being interviewed post game v Leeds and was talking about his injury woes ......

Those bagging and complaining re Hastings check out the NRL table and see where your team sits ..yep 2nd last ! Hastings is not coming to play anywhere else but the halves blind Freddy can see that .

Is that like asking how many Geo's are needed to replace a lightbulb

Time will tell w Noffa, we've got enough of it to find out ? Their recruitment has been pretty good although somewhat hindered by previous recruits stamped by Pascoe. Curious about retention. Matterson and Aloiai have both walked and we know have LL and Simpkins to extend. Let's see if we keep them, especially LL or whether he wants to leave too.

Very pleasing. He was always a gun player coming through the ranks, he just had a really bad attitude and was immature when he first started. Good to see him coming back & I think he can be a really solid player not only in the NRL but for WT moving forward. Douehi is our long term 5/8. He ain't going anywhere.

Jackson Hastings will provide good utility value and put some pressure on the halves to perform. Walters is going to Brisbane and Mbye being moved so it makes sense. Low cost signing and the kid has pedigree played Australian Schoolboys, 50+ NRL games and won the man of Steel Award in England. I like these types of signings if it’s low cost.

Given he wanted to return I can’t see this deal being a large contract and likely a straight replacement for Billy Walters.

Chammas saying on inside the NRL, not sure on exact figure but would be in the $400k-$500k bracket.

Sowards opinion is Jackson coming to play in the halves and he (Soward) wouldn't be moving AD from 5/8.

I don’t think they will rush it, unless they already have a deal done?

For me, ideally, I would like to see Hastings at 7, Liddle at 14 and a good centre and winger?

BJ, Mbye, Packer and Brooks gone.

Based on those numbers, size wise bigger than Cam Murray and Radley who have both revolutionized the small ball playing lock forward. If he brings a similar defensive determination he could be massive for Tigers at lock. Play like a half defend like a forward.

Im happy if he is coming it @14

Yep agree.

I really wouldn't be surprised to see Hastings in the 7 jumper. I'm hoping this talk of him being a utility is just a cover up so brooks doesn't lose all his confidence. Brooks would actually be a good 14 to be honest

If those numbers are accurate this is an intense failure of a signing. Disgusting numbers honestly. Jackson Hastings has never been an NRL starter and has done nothing to indicate he should be on that type of money. I have no real argument to suggest that he would produce any greater than Billy Walters, Jock Madden or even Zach Docker-Clay honestly. That has to be made up surely. I would value him half that. Unless they're saying $400-500k on two years with a team option.

The man of steel won't come here to get paid $200k.... halfbacks are at a premium too. $400k seems about right, we've got plenty of cap space it'll be a short deal don't stress about it

Doesnt sound low cost unfortunatley

There are so many factors to consider and one that is far more important than people realise is what continuing to make signings like this says about our club. If we keep picking up players with bad reputations who are unwanted elsewhere or players who are perceived that way perception becomes reality and it just affirms what people think about us.

Just wait, once this signing is made it won't be "Tigers land coup signing star from ESL" it will be "Desperate Tigers throw NRL lifeline to outcast badboy". And no matter what anyone thinks that stuff affects us at every level. Then the pressure is on Jackson to prove that wrong because if he is even remotely unsuccessful it'll be mocked relentlessly much like our signing of BJ Leilua or James Roberts is being. And it all contributes to all and sundry from the media, to fans, to other players considering our club a desperate joke.
