I think this signing will make us as fans nostalgic for Braith anasta and Moses Mbye.

Silly comparison they won't over pay him

I didnt say anything about money, why is it silly?

Jackson Hastings will provide good utility value and put some pressure on the halves to perform. Walters is going to Brisbane and Mbye being moved so it makes sense. Low cost signing and the kid has pedigree played Australian Schoolboys, 50+ NRL games and won the man of Steel Award in England. I like these types of signings if it’s low cost.

Given he wanted to return I can’t see this deal being a large contract and likely a straight replacement for Billy Walters.

He won’t be coming to play 14

Unless Brooks is offloaded which I think the club would do tomorrow he’s not a better half than Brooks or Douihei. Cheaper and better value is only relevant if Brooks is moved on. I don’t see it happening.

Halfback is not a position where you look for "value". I dont think a team has ever been happy with a half, "but yeah he is cheap".

Tamou had no idea about the Hastings news when asked on Monday, but he was happy to hear about the half’s pending arrival.

“I think that is great for the club moving forward,” Tamou said.

“Jackson has gone really well over in the Super League in the last couple of years.

“Obviously coming through the Roosters juniors, he has definitely got something there that I think will be important to this club.

“Having those couple of years of experience over in the Super League will be important to him, and just to bring his attacking prowess to this team will be important.”

Can Tamou, our captain, tell us what "coming thorugh the Roosters juniors" has to do with Hastings' benefit to WT?

He's (Tamou) been here 5 minutes and already feels safe to make comparisons with the Roosters systems and those of WT. Seriously?

I concur, Tamou needs to display more skills than jumping pulling and dressing gown modelling on the sideline before waving lyrical about the Roosters system (he’s never experienced it).
Hastings does not have the speed of Brooks but he has the mongrel and game management that will save Madge’s career - Douhe is safe but Brooks is not, Hastings is here to run the side at halfback and he’ll provide the leadership and toughness that was bestowed upon Brooks when was remunerated his mega salary!
Let’s not upset the apple cart for this season - I love the fairy tale about Hastings playing lock - it’s so fanciful and a little bit naughty but I’m going to derive so much pleasure watching Madge handle Brooks with a poker face .. the writing is on the wall (so big you can see it from space).... after 8 seasons of half-hearted plays, rubbish kicking game, lack of urgency all deflected at Benji and Reynolds it’s time to realise Brooks does not have the skills required.
Brooks: “You are the Weakest Link - Goodbye”

Hastings won the Man of Steel award which is a good thing. Could be alot worse, we could be looking at signing someone who didn't win the award and did bugger all in England.

I agree. I rate Brooks more highly than Hastings. BUT a team running second last paying their halfback 900k vs 350k it’s a consideration.

I see Hastings as a 14 replacing Mbye I don’t see him coming in as a halfback. Brooks is under contract and a better player albeit he’s paid huge money.

Ok could I request before we get into It's just the Super League this Won the Man of Steel that..you read this thread..

https://weststigersforum.com/topic/32067/tigers-want-hastings-immediately

As it will save a lot of typing the same stuff you have already typed..

Look I don't watch much ESL , but I liked a certain heads up play just before HT ......I'll join Geo on the fence on this one ......

I saw channel 7 news stating he’s signed I know that’s far from official but it must be all but done. One thing I think must be Mbye has to be gone next year otherwise it doesn’t add up if Hastings is a 14 maybe a lock but I think that’s a stretch leaves Mbye nowhere. I know Walters is off but I don’t really see it as like for like.

Hope he gets some of his old man's heart and soul ....

I’m ok with it for the right price.
I hope he has matured and will grasp his second chance with both hands - not everyone gets a second go round.
He has great hands, positional and game management
I see him as a ball playing lock but also potentially a Blake green, Chad Townsend type of player if it all goes well and we all know we’ve needed someone like this for years... and years.... years....

Chammas saying on inside the NRL, not sure on exact figure but would be in the $400k-$500k bracket.

Sowards opinion is Jackson coming to play in the halves and he (Soward) wouldn't be moving AD from 5/8.

I really wouldn't be surprised to see Hastings in the 7 jumper. I'm hoping this talk of him being a utility is just a cover up so brooks doesn't lose all his confidence. Brooks would actually be a good 14 to be honest

With Doueihi and Hastings you would have the slowest halves combination in the NRL.

If halves do there job and the rest of the side supports them they only have to be quick in the minds not their feet.
How quick do you think the best half in the game is right now?

Ah, Tamou was plucked out of the Roosters system from the cowboys.

Your backline is only as fast as your slowest back .....bloody hell you could have used a sundial to time some of our backlines over the years

Fits in nicely with Talau, Nofo, BJ as the slowest backs in the NRL.

I’m confused, does that include the 7 and 6? Coz we know Brooks is one of the quickest but we also know your far from a fan.
Which side are you siting on. Brooks or Hastings for 7?

Wests Tigers Secure Jackson Hastings

Wests Tigers are pleased to announce that Great Britain international Jackson Hastings has agreed to terms with the club on a two-year deal.

The deal will see Hastings join Wests Tigers at the start of the 2022 NRL season and remain with the club until at least the end of 2023.

A junior representative standout, Hastings made his first-grade debut for the Sydney Roosters in 2014 — going on to play 34 games for the Tricolours over a three-year span that also saw him represent the Junior Kangaroos and NSW U/20’s.

Hastings joined Manly-Warringah in 2017 — playing 13 games for the Sea Eagles — before shifting to Super League. The talented playmaker starred for Salford, taking the Red Devils to their first Super League Grand Final, while also claiming the Man of Steel Award following a fine individual season that culminated in his selection for Great Britain.

Wests Tigers CEO Justin Pascoe welcomed Hastings’ pending arrival and wished him well for the remainder of the 2021 Super League season.

“On behalf of all at Wests Tigers, I’d like to say how pleased we are to have secured Jackson for the coming two seasons,” Pascoe said.

“Jackson’s versatility and on-field ability will add a lot our team in the coming years, and we look forward to welcoming him to our club at the end of his current campaign with Wigan.”

Wests Tigers Coach Michael Maguire said Hastings would be a great addition to the squad.

“I’m really looking forward to welcoming Jackson to our squad in 2022,” Maguire said.

“Jackson’s shown himself to be an extremely competitive player and someone who wants to prove himself in the NRL. We’re looking forward to him adding to our club and squad in the 2022 season and beyond.”
