Hastings VS Brooks

Hate myself for saying it, but we need to look at Brooks when he isnt trying to be in control...

He doesnt have it in him to organise, that is proven, but the games when he lost a halves partner he has gone pretty well. Its as if he falls apart under the pressures of delegation, yet once it is all on him he seems to lift.

Coming up with Moses, Brooks was wearing the 7, but the slimey little turd had it all over him for chatter and directing the game. Moses was running things and Brooks merely first receiver. Brooks has skill, he can play the game, controlling the game may be past him.

He is almost the anti Benji... remember the yrs of Benji trying to run things. Prince could control him, Lui could also play with him, but the rest wilted. Benji at 7 was a disaster. Im starting to think Brooks is just the polar opposite, tried to make into the player to run the game, when we needed someone to run him.

What does Brooks offer though? He doesn't habe a cut out pass or a strong running game.

I feel with sheens coming in we will have a very super league throw the ball around style of play next season

It's a great style that would work well in this touch-footy era that V'jankle seems so keen on. Problem is, to make that style work you need blokes with great hands. That rules out more than half of our squad for starters, most notably Talau and Kapoea.

Over the last few weeks when Luke Brooks has been captain and needed to speak up on behalf of his team he never did.

There were even times Luch was yelling at Brooks to come across and talk to the ref to support the team, the ref talked to him and he didn't say a word.

For me.. that was my point that I never want him to play in our team.. he needed to step up and never did.

Thats the issue, he just looks and plays like he doesnt care.
As long as he makes HIS tackles and completes HIS sets thats all he seems to care about.

Lacks leadership and has never really bought in to the culture changes.

I strongly disagree with this, as until he was given the captaincy there was little wrong with Brooks this year. He was showing much improvement in certain areas, in which I admit he has regressed in since then (getting the captaincy).

The speculation about him leading a player mutiny has surfaced today and so has continued criticism of his leadership ability. His inability to step up now means he's toxic, despite it being fairly obvious that he hasn't got this in him.
Who honestly believed he has the best traits to be the team's leader?

No offence but because our recruitment and retention has basically failed over a significant period - with no change on the near horizon - some are only looking for someone to blame in what has been a poor year for the team.
The only toxicity I've recently seen was from our club leaders in placing all performance related issues onto Madge. Plus learning that the unhealthy obsession with blaming Brooks has amplified and resulted in him copping all sorts of abuse at a game.

I can honestly understand how the pressure may be getting to him and its why I welcome the signing of someone like Hastings - as he could be the person that demands the best of everyone around him, including Brooks.
I believe there's room for both and my position on retaining Brooks is purely for the benefit of the team and I don't wish us to be disadvantaged in any way. Especially with Doueihi out with injury.

Agreed, an 88kg halfback doesnt do the defensive load he has done this year if he does not care.

I'm disappointed, I came in here thinking this was some kind of charity boxing match or UFC-style Octagon showdown during this offseason.

An octogon has 8 sides. Just like NRL finals.

Once old mate heard that he pulled out of the event as he knew couldn't qualify.

An Octogon has 8 sides, the wests Tigers have more 'leaders' on the field. Most teams go with a Defensive Line, well we improve that with a Defensive Sizemograph. Everyone pick a direction and head that way!

I agree he cares.

About his own performance and not looking bad.

Thats the issue.

What’s the friggin point in having a halfback on $850k that just tackles ?
He can’t kick long or short and he can’t pass a long ball … punt him ..
Oh .. and he missed 17 tackles in the last 2 games ..
He’s cooked … every aspect.. cooked !
Punt him !

He can't pass he can't run he can't kick, apparently all he can do is defend but he was 5th for missed tackles this year so it appears he's not very good at that either
