Heamasi Makasini #303

I'm not a footy coach and never will be, but why would you drop the bloke back to reserves?

To work on a few unlucky mistakes?

He has had his fair share of embarrassing moments so far, but also his fair share of good things that don't stick in your memory quite so much.

For mine, the odd dropped ball and brain explosion under fatigue and pressure are the short-term cost you pay for putting a young fella in who is barely out of school but has a lot of upside.

It's different to someone like Skelton who is nearly 28 years old and should have brain-farts mostly ironed out of his game.
Because the week to week grind can be enormous on young developing players
Load management and take the pressure off him...give him.a.few weeks.with no.pressure at all in reggies...like annual leave, come back refreshed

A player should always be expecting the ball. If he wasnt expecting it, then thats a Makasini problem, not a Bula one.

Throwing a pass a metre before the line is generally when the best opportunities present themselves if the runner is in the correct spot.

It wasnt a hospital pass. Therefore, the blame sits with Makasini; he should have caught it.
Was ut a meter off their line or our line
No ones explained this howler to me...but i agree you should always expect the ball...or expect the unexpected

It was a kick return Ink.

Bula looked very ginger when he received the ball but instead of passing to Makasini right away he ran like he was going to make the return himself, then passed to Makasini a couple of metres before the kick chase line.

Both players at fault really

Agreed.

Makasini had to be dropped. Benji needed to be consistent and has been. Well done to him.

I am not to worried about the dropped ball that's a mental thing I was more worried about being caught out of position a few times

For a young kid he's doing amazing I just think it's concentration for the full 80 minutes give him a rest let him relax his body and mind then pump him again for a few weeks then give him another rest buid him up make him stronger for a successful career not just burn him out in a season or two

I have to disagree I’m afraid. If Bula wasn’t worried about his shoulder he doesn’t throw the pass. He was clearly avoiding contact. There was nothing on. To my observation Makasini was moving into position to take the first dummy half run just like had happened after every other kick. Sure you could say he should have still caught it and after the week before he should expect ridiculous passes to be thrown at him but Bula isn’t innocent here IMO.

He means the defensive line I think. That passing closer to the defenders provides the best chance of a line break.

Makasini had a good stint in first grade as an 18 year old. He will be back and firing. Has a lot to work on but has all the tools. It’s the right decision didn’t think Benji would make it tbh. Correct call.
