We are sometimes a bad fanbase because certain people shoot their wads over the performances of 16/17 year olds and drum up incredible hype over them doing good things in the juniors.
This hype translates to media fawning over them before they’ve achieved anything and pressure is put on coaches to debut them way ahead of time.
We have done it so many times. Brooks suffered from it and never really got over it. Galvin is currently struggling through it, even leaving the club to get a better go at it and now this kid who honestly doesn’t even look like he has the faintest idea of how to play the game.
We as a club MURDER young players careers and it’s tragic to witness it.
 
I'm a fan. He has some really good attributes. He's courageous, as evidenced by how he attacks the high ball, and goes into contact. Just the fact he is physical is a big tick. He does have some sloppy moments in him, which I'd expect of someone in their rookie season. Some of these moments are costing us at critical moments. Unfortunately, he (and we) will have to bear with him while he builds experience.

I'll echo what many have here, he should be learning his trade in reserves. However, it's just how it is, our depth sucks and he's stuck playing first grade. Seems like his confidence has returned and he's not getting dominated like at the start of the season. Let's show him support guys, let's not make him a punching bag.
 
Is it just me, or does this guy seem to get worse and worse? Herbert leaps and bounds better than this guy, and Herbert is an NSW Cup player... don't know why we re-signed him after a trial game highlight reel.

Cost us the game yesterday with another one of his poor defensive reads thats been going on all year

He’s 18 and clearly not ready for the full season grind of NRL. Instead of using him as a punching bag, blame the people putting him in that position to cop ridiculous hate like this.

Nathan Cleary was 18 when he first played with many other players doing also. How's Nathan's career going?

of course I blame benji also, he has made piss poor team selections, and I have no idea why he plays an overhyped 18 year old when in the press conference he says "we want to win as many games as we can" yet he plays an 18 year old who should still be in jersey flegg and no where near NRL for years to come.

Mate the problem is Benji has pushed him far too early as he (Makasini) should be learning the game in reggies on the wing mainly.Benji has set Makasini's development as a player back by his stupidity and inflexibility to not change his policy.At the very least Benji should be playing him on the WING not exposed at centre.
The coaching staff are the ones to blame not the young player.

Cleary is a generational talent. Do you think all players need to be up to it at that age?

There’s no reason Makasini can’t be a great first grader. But just because he’s not the complete player at 18 is irrelevant

And he’d have only played a full season of first grade at our club. You think he’s a regular first grader anywhere else at his age?

He's 18, playing injured and his confidence is gone.
He needs to finish the year in cup, and start next year in cup and earn the call up and enjoy his footy again..
He will be a star, but I don't think he should be playing NRL for at least another 12-24 months..

Defensive reads as a centre have been a real issue for the young kid. Has problems with the high ball, but seems more effective as a winger to me. I know it was only a trial, but that trial match against Penrith where he killed it, pretty sure he played on the left wing

And comparing him to one of the best players in the game is just ludicrous
