Heamasi Makasini

Geez. Seriously…. Let’s watch him grow and see how the next 3yrs work out.
Yes, seriously. Because as we've seen a million times over, players can walk out at any time.

He could be out of here middle of next season for all we know.

Two codes, multiple contents ready to snipe.

he was offered huge money to play rugby in japan but chose to re-sign with us

I dunno mate…isn’t he quoting what Maka said ? Seems a pretty direct statement to me …”the Tigers wanted me to do full time this year …” so possibly there was a misunderstanding on Maka’s end perhaps ?
I hope it is because I would have expected better from the Tigers.

Maybe they just gave him the option to take him on full-time if he didn't want to finish school. Which would be much better.

And yet the club convinced Maka to stay, he knocked back multiple union offers and is signed for 3yrs with us starting next season.

What more do people want from the club and kid who hasn’t finished school or even played an nrl game yet.

Just enjoy this weekend, hopefully the kid holds his own and then we have months of talk about how he fits into the team next season.

I'm cautiously optimistic.

With the club's poor retention history of promising young players and the tried and true early release playbook used flawlessly against the club so many times, I don't understand how anyone could not be wary.

How many times does it have to happen before unbridled hope turns to naivety? Especially with the whole Galvin fiasco so fresh...

I'm not knocking anyone for having high hopes for him - I do myself of course (as I did with Galvin) - but there must surely come a time when it is simply pragmatic to see how it pans out.

As for the leaving school early thing, the guy from the school said he was into his carpentry, so it's possible the only benefit to his staying was for rugby and not academic. I'm sure the club would've had have no problem finding him an apprenticeship if that's what he wanted.

Don't get me wrong; I think it was a great decision to see out the school year and shows the kid has loyalty, whilst the club didn't pressure him too much. Article implies they did, but the fact he signed and is still there to me says otherwise.

TLDR: Very hopeful, but forgive me for not fully investing in the second coming just yet.

... Still, he is into his carpentry... 🤔 🤣

Watch him grow? He's 108 kg now!
108kg with speed, height, will be hard to stop.
Just get the ball out to him.

I saw him do a show and go at speed with a step all in one movement and just burnt two defenders with speed on the way to the try line just something special about him

Can’t remember the last time we kept a gun junior we wanted

We haven’t been able to build our club around juniors for a long time

Even now, the only junior in our 1-13 last week was Bula
Isn't that just the game in general these days? If Newcastle kept all their juniors theyd be top 4

He could sign a life long contract with no exit claises in blood whilst sacrificing his first born ... And there'd still be this concern... I can sort of understand it.. but it does seem different now with the playing group we have.. he seems like he will fit right in with the boys and they all want to win a premiership... Its pretty exciting actually

Agree...

Can you imagine what the feeling is going to be like when we make finals..
I have always said we are a sleeping giant, and Richo is waking us up.
The Bulldogs bandwagoners will look like chumps compared to Tigers bandwagoners. It's impressive we have the crowd numbers we do considering our lack of success and general incompetency over the years. Imagine the support we would get with a decent team that makes finals most years.
