High-scoring wins didn't help us: Taylor

Good point Chad.
There more to all this JT hate…. It's personal for some, some cannot get past him and Farah.... Wouldn't be surprised theres a magpie element to it also.
It's just waaay too overboard and illogical

Or maybe some people simply just don't think he's a particularly good coach.

All I have seen since our loss is people rightly questioning the coach on a ridiculous selections / bench we put in place.

But i suppose that is personal and agenda driven according to some paranoid fans.

Please.

Fans just want to win.

Illogical to come 15th and for some fans to question the coach?

I don't know about that.

Do you think people would be calling for his head if we came 8th last year??

Ive never called for him to be sacked, every coachedeserves 2 seasons.

However if he comes 15ht again this year it will be curtains and rightly so.

Of course there is some context.

However last year we 100% looked like the 15th best side the comp. Bearing in the mind the 16th best team beat us twice.

I think my major issue is that JT is changing the tune to suit himself.
A couple of weeks ago he was saying he was happy to be underrated and that we'd be in the top few teams by the end of the season.
Now he's seemingly back to portraying this as another development/rebuilding season, with positives to come out of losses to benefit us long term etc.

I absolutely agree with the sentiment that the defence needs to be better, and conceding 8 points is a good thing. But he's had his one write-off year, and he needs to start getting results first and foremost. He's had 18+ mths to get his ideas across to the squad, and yet they're only making their way onto the pitch in fits and spurts - time to deliver.

Just putting this out there..

2003, Tigers hired Tim Sheens. He had a 29% winning record in 2003\. 7 wins. In 2004, 10 wins & a 41% winning record. Then in 2005, won a premiership.

JT in 2015 had 10 wins & a 38% win record. He's 50% this season so far.

I'm not suggesting JT is ahead of Sheens, or better than Sheens, but I am saying it didn't take 5 minutes for Sheens to turn the Tigers into a Grand Final team.

Seriously, the common theory before the season started was that this roster wasn't strong enough to make the finals. Now you want to hang JT because he's only 50%.

When is it not actually JT doing a bad job? Only when he gets us to a Grand Final?

This club is in progression. Young players developing, new faces finding their place.

It won't be fixed next round either.

But at least they are committed. They held the potentially best team in the NRL to 8 points, all game.

I'm glad JT praised the Defence. It's not like he came out saying our attack is exactly where it needs to be, did he?

All really good points but I don't agree that our roster is that bad. I think we have some decent talent in this team and as JT said earlier we can be one of the better teams in the comp.I still think we can have a good season this year.

My main issue with JT is his spin and even worse the peeps who buy it. We need to win games and have a good attack as well as a solid defence.

He needs to get this team winning games and making the 8 at a bare minimum.

He might get another season but he has to improve a lot. I can't see the spin working at the club as well. They will also be expecting results and rightly so.

U know what I watched the game again and the play that annoyed me the most was when Mitch kicked for Simona ..Parra were shot to crap and all it did was allow them time to scramble over ..at the game I thought if he put it through hands we score for sure..but hey that wouldn't look as good on the highlight package and Rankin get bagged for falling over…

The 6 tackle rule is having a massive influence on how the game is played, too much in my opinion. Let the attacking team hang onto the ball a bit longer at least when from their own quarter line, maybe make it 8 tackles and ten from their own goal line. At the moment it is half AFL and not enough Rugby Union.

Totally disagree with 8 or 10 tackles - it would be absolutely boring.

If you are good enough, 6 tackles is more than enough to score tries. If anything more emphasis should be placed on scoring tries. The NRL can do this by reducing conversions and penalties to one point or increasing tries to 5.

This is Rugby League it is not in any way shape or form anything like half of Aussie Rules or Rugby Union. I for one don't want it to be anything like them or NFL - we already have "The Greatest Game of All" - let us not water it down any more.

20-10 triumph
10-20 fail
Need to score more than the opp
Blah blah

Have to disagree on this one i remember the boring days of unlimited tackle 6 is a good compromise (4 was always to few).I can recollect days when you wouldnt touch the ball for long periods while the other team just retained possession with negative plays.I know you are not advocating that but i believe coaches would abuse it and attacking football would suffer

Parra were shot at that moment, put it thru the hands and it's a try… Like has been previously stated it was a bad option taken from our halves

then you must have glossed over the "Taylor doesn't understand we need to score more than the opposition" posts that are in this very thread.

I didn't defend his bench selections, although I'm sure if Farah had started, Halatau was a designated 2nd rower & Cherrington on the Bench we would never have heard the complaints..

I'd still be unhappy about that CG!

Although I think very highly of Dene, he doesn't cut it as a modern back-rower for me.

Doesn't offer much in attack and while his defence is generally good, he is often unable to get back into the marker position when involved in the tackle. Too often.

Not sure why he seems to be getting gassed so easy.

Surely one of the State Cup players would be a better option for second row?

And yet, his record was better than Tim Sheens first year record.

Context is more than final finishing positions & for & against.

This is a team cobbled together on a shoestring, forced to play young guys who may or may not be ready for 1st grade, and with an injection of guys released from other clubs.

Unlike the final teams that played under Sheens & Potter, this team looks committed. The defence is improving. Young forwards are starting to learn to run from deep with purpose.

What is 'progress'? Results only? Or improved standard on the field?

This team is playing better. They are not perfect, they are better.

That's progress.

It's like everyone is watching Leicester leading the Premier League & thinking "if they can do it, all minnows around the world should be winning". Doesn't happen that way.

Making the 8 would be a high achievement for this team.

Finishing last would be disappointing, but not unexpected.

There is a reason a lot of 'experts' picked this team to come last- they are starting from the bottom. It takes time. Improvement in the play is what is required. We are getting that.

Seriously, we are talking about a team that held one of the premiership heavyweights this season to 8 points. And whinging.

But not because he was using 52 hookers.

Is there a better option in the State Cup? Can we just keep inserting kids into the line-up & expect results to come?

Not sure mate, but I think we are in real trouble if not.

Some good judges on here like Edwards and Chee-Kam. I'd be happy to see Griffin get a run, I don't think he would disappoint off the bench (although he is not in the top 25).

Like many, I am just frustrated to see the same low-achievers named without giving some promising options a chance. Only needs to be one at a time.

This week would be a good opportunity because any of those names above won't be coming off a short turnaround either.

edit: and yes, the extra hooker and back-up fullback playing on the wing doesn't help either!
Guess we'll see what happens on Saturday.

Maybe the players within the squad may not have the potential that they are hyped up to have, and may find NRL way over the heads to compete in....but as you say sack the coach, because fans want to win...

Any fan with black white and orange blood running through their veins know that we have to give JT his full contract time..I know that we are going to get beaten at times, however we need to let him do his job with the roster he has and to give the young group time to mature especially with their execution, percentage play and ball control...far to many people want to jump on the kick JT in the arse train...they are not in his shoes and I doubt they would know what is going on within the club...Tiger Torch would be the one who knows.......
