Couple of songs are ok but generally it doesn't speak to me at all

My issue is that I find it hard to understand the popularity outside of African American populations - to me its a cultural expression and the idea of people from outside of that demographic becoming so into it is.... I don't know... poseur.....(look it up lol)

but each their own.......

Yeah, I'm with you and Willow. I'm not at all interested in the cultural values expressed. There is no discernable musicianship there at all for me.
For rock, give me Vinnie Colaiuta or Chad Wackerman drumming, Steve Vai, Adrian Belew or Zappa on guitar, Arthur Barrow on bass, Mike Brecker on Sax. That there is musicianship. For Jazz too many to mention, and for Classical too much variation in performance.

@Demps what do you think of Dizzee Rascal?

Yea he had classics back in the day.
Boy in the corner album was heavy.
I wouldn't call him a relevant artist these days tho.

Inspired stormzy and that but yeah defs a don.

Can someone explain the appeal of ONEFOUR?

One four is Australia's first drill crew...
3 of the members are looking at lengthy sentences so they may fizzle.

But they were kinda the first drill rappers to blow up... in Australia.
They have a UK influenced sound and to me it's interested.

Every track they dropped was HUGE. Output was amazing until 2 of them got locked up. See how it affects their shine.

Every song is an in depth look about growing up in the streets of syd I reckon. Hard as.

Ice -T ...colors was massive when I was a kid ..loved it ...
Probably classed as lame these days !?

Ice T, isn’t he the guy who plays Finn on Law & Order? Probably did better out of that than a music career.

On the music itself, I can’t really comment as I haven’t really listened to much rap or hip hop over the years. Not really my style and as Willow said, I prefer to listen to a real drummer and a band playing real instruments, not electronic backup stuff.

That said, the guys that can do drum beats and music with their mouths are pretty impressive sometimes.

Yeah Ice -T is Finn from law & order

Bow bowwwwww

Each to their own. But they sound like a joke to me.

I grew up playing guitar and listening to a lot of alternative, punk and metal but now 80-90% of what I listen to is hip hop.

Hip hop has plenty of great production skills and smart lyrics and funny pop culture references to appreciate regardless of who you are.

The guys that produce are super talented. Often they're really well trained musicians.

Thanks Demps
I tried, but still waiting for music. Nothing there for me.
Play one with good polyrhythms or interesting time signatures or better still some xenochrony. Then I might sit still and listen.

Do get the fuss over JayZ, Kanye (feel dirty just typing this) Kendrick Lame ass.
I really don't get the Drake creep, he makes me cringe.

I like Madlib, J Dilla and Tyler the creator though.

Nobody beats the beastie boys musically they run rings around these modern fake musicians

They don't look like a joke.
Especially when they're beating down their enemies with hammers.

Silly tho... about to take off and now half of em are locked up.
