Home Final at SFS

I can just imagine the uproar from the 10,000 - 15,000 Tigers fans who would miss out if we chose one of our suburban venues. I'm happy to see my team play at the best rugby league venue in Sydney.
 
The right call i believe.
Should be played at the ground with the best facilities and this is it.
Campbelltown would be next and then tired old LO.
Was never going to be anywhere else.

Tigers to lock Roosters out

WESTS Tigers will shift base to the Sydney Football Stadium for the week leading into their home finals match and will employ security guards to keep out the prying eyes of possible opponents, the Sydney Roosters.

The Tigers yesterday confirmed their home final would be played at the SFS, the arena that is just 10 metres from the Roosters' offices in Moore Park.

Wests Tigers management have been given assurances from the SCG Trust that security will be in place so that Roosters players and officials cannot walk out the back door of their offices and watch the Tigers train.

The Tigers have stressed they don't want any Roosters players roaming around the precinct while they are training and using the extensive facilities usually enjoyed by the Roosters.

A walkway runs between the Roosters offices at the SFS and it is now rugby league's version of the Berlin Wall.

The Roosters last night labelled the Tigers "paranoid".

Wests Tigers will enjoy the Moore Park facilities for the entire week leading into the big match.

"We will have the run of the house and the Roosters won't," Tigers chief executive Stephen Humphreys told The Daily Telegraph. "We will be using the home dressing rooms, train multiple times at the SFS, maybe every day, use the baths, meeting rooms, have lunches there.

"Essentially we will be moving in. The Sydney Roosters won't enjoy the normal privileges there that they have through the normal season.

"There will be security there in the area, so the Roosters don't get anywhere near where we are.

"I have spoken to the Trust and they were very accommodating with our requests and they were very understanding."

Roosters chief executive Steve Noyce was bemused by the Wests Tigers' stance.

"We will be keeping things business as usual," Noyce said. "If other people want to get paranoid, that's their problem. Maybe we will change some of the locks at our place too.

"We are just excited to be playing in the finals."

Wests Tigers had considered playing their home finals match at Leichhardt Oval.

But the SFS will accommodate a finals crowd of up to 45,000 should the Tigers and Roosters meet in what shapes as an epic contest.

"The best thing in all this is the fans. We will get them all in," Humphreys said.

"At the SFS we can offer members up to 10 tickets each, whereas, say Kogarah, they can only get four.

"It is a big win for our fans.

"The players are very comfortable with it too. They had a great experience at the SFS in 2005 [winning a grand final qualifier against St George Illawarra] and we hope to replicate those experiences again in 2010."

The NRL favours the biggest stadiums for finals matches because it claims the gate receipts.
 
What a cop out, we should be playing as many games as possible at our real home grounds. No mention of the figure tigers received for moving game there.

Here's hoping we win that first final coz if we don't there will be a lot of people up in arms about where the game should have been played.

As opposed to everyone complaining when they can't get tickets to Leichhardt

Get over it. We are in the semis and that makes me happy
 
Not a big fan of publicising all these plans to lock out the Roosters etc.

Prefer to fly under the radar
 
I am happy with this decision. The SFS semi against Brisbane in 2005 was one of my favourite Tigers memories. The sea of black and gold (or orange) was amazing.

Carn the Tiges - wherever we play.
 
Without a doubt, we have the biggest bunch of whinging supporters in the world. Even a top 4 finish doesnt put a smile on some peoples faces.
 
This proves we are not yet there as a club when we have to play a home semi at another teams home ground.
We should be playing 6 x 6 with alternate semis at Cambo and Leichhardt. The easy money is still holding sway with the board.

I'm disappointed but of course will support the team at Easts home ground.

Money no doubt is the big carrot but I believe Humphrey's is geniune in wanting to take the game game to a venue where no-one will get locked out.
 
I've got my fingers crossed we don't play the roosters - becuase we just gave them more ammunition.

So it's the WestsSFS next Saturday 8.30pm then...Late night dew might be a bit slippery should have played at Cambo....
 
I see a lot of different opinion spinning around about this and while the front office feels it may have made a decision for the right reasons, I think the outcome is flawed. There's talk of the facilities, but a beer at Leichhardt/Cambo doesn't taste any different from from one at the SFS, save for the fact it's probably cheaper. How fragrant does the atmosphere need to be to take 1-2 pees? Is the food better at the SFS? Are the plastic seats more comfortable or roomier than those at Leichhardt or Cambo? We're talking about the footy here, not an Opera Australia production. Part of the appeal is the nature of your surroundings. How does playing a game in the Eastern Suburbs allow a community connection? The SFS has the soul of a house brick.

Or then it's about the fans? So many will be turned away? I would have thought the opposition fans would be more enthusiastic to attend a neutral ground rather than one where the spirits of the home crowd run pretty high. I don't enjoy Brookvale or OKI, would be much more likely to attend a game against Manly at the SFS.

You can't underestimate the importance of winning the first semi that we play, not just in terms of progression, but for the fact that a positive kick start will ensure more memberships, more sponsors and more corporates in 2011 and beyond. There's no more important ingredient during semis than confidence and that characteristic will be more prevalent at LO or Cambo, rather than some geographically dislocated concrete bunker
 
Does anyone know the chance of us playing on friday night week 1 of the finals? im pretty sure the second week is no friday night game. just need to know so i can work out my shifts for work for the next two weeks . its usually 4th v 5th on the first friday? which i guess is possible for us (but not likely, i know) to finish 4th

…spot on.

if i had a guarantee that the tigers would win their first final if played at one of their true home grounds i'd be happy to forgo the chance to get a ticket and say i missed out not enough tickets, bad luck.

as it stands we go in with no home ground advantage because we pimped our arses out for money and didnt let the bandwagoners get their tickets for the first time to a tigers match in 5 years.

i put the team and its results that may eventuate first over my priority of getting a ticket to watch them at a neutral venue any day of the week.
