Home Ground situation needs to change

**Where will the money come from to fund suburban ground upgrades?**
V’landys has already been deep in discussions with members of government to ensure the upgrade of grounds like Leichhardt Oval, Brookvale Oval and Campbelltown Sportsground.

“There’s been no resistance from government,” V’landys.

“There are buckets of money, and one in particular I’ve had discussions with the treasurer of NSW, in the point of consumption tax. It affects our revenues and one of the real growth area for us has been on wagering and by the introduction of point of consumption tax, it actually affects our pricing power on wagering. So the government has to compensate us for that. I think that compensation can then be used to fix up suburban grounds. That’s one bucket.”

Reckon that making the finals would be much, much, much more beneficial and not only financial, but long lasting, than the scraps we get as a bonus for the home ground crowd at Parramatta.

Agree - just saying that’s the reason .

Another way of looking at it- is those 2 points we lost to Parra at our home match vs them at BW Stadium (read Parramatta homeground to all and sundry- esp Parra Eels), if we had played and won at LO / CSS / ANZ would have got us into the finals series.

All the talk of money etc means nothing if the real game of league where you are playing to win to get enough points to get into finals. We missed literally by one winning game.

Yeah, one game. Like the last game of the year. If only we played that one at LO.

No.. only the game he mentioned counts ?

Some of the logic here is mind bending

Wow! Todd what have you been doing?
Did you see Toddy walk in to yesterday’s press conference behind Vlandys? He looked like a scolded schoolboy.

Well Mr V'Landys has certainly hit the ground running how refreshing is it to have someone in charge that is A CAN DO person a not a babbling fool.
The buckets of cash he mentioned for ground improvements coming from a consumption tax is exactly what turned racing around in NSW and would appear to have gone untapped by previous administrations.
With this news I have changed my way of thinking where we should establish ourselves for the FUTURE
I thought ANZ Stadium would be the place but with this possible new cash becoming available
CSS and LO should be our priority both clubs have a rich history but that's all it is HISTORY.
What we need to do now is build our FUTURE
The new Sydney Airport at Badgerys Creek (Yes it is happening) construction has started and will take 10 years to complete but when completed will be Australia's largest Airport by land size create 200,000 new jobs and will increase the population in surrounding areas by
1.5 million .Now there not all going to be WESTS TIGERS supporters but they will have children and they will need sport this is where our FUTURE is.
As a priority Wests Campbelltown need to settle there differences they have with whoever and get a committee together with Council, the new A League franchise ,Wests Ashfield, the NRL to make things happen.
Imagine a new grandstand at CSS backing onto
the league's club the corporate facilities would be 1st class.
I read an article that when Bankwest is a sell out the local economy gets an injection of over a million dollars and god only knows what that would do to turn over at the league's club.
We have a foot in the door in the South West and what we need to do is shut the door so no other Basta**** can take it .
Do yourself a favour and take a drive down Bringelly Rd The Northern Drive and Elizabeth Drive if you haven't been out that way in a while you will not believe what is happening there.

Western Suburbs Leagues club at Ashfield, Wests Tigers LC at Flemington, future Wests Tigers LC at Rozelle ... this is our area for bums on seats and where to go after a game in Sydney. It’s also where our COE is being built.

We will never have just ONE home ground. It looks more and more being majority ANZ (our area) with a game or two at Leichardt and Campbelltown and a game in the country.

I can’t see it changing much at all tbh.

EXCELLENT post @Elderslie_Tiger: I agree 100% with everything you said.

Martin Luther King said [and it's recorded for posterity] in one of his famous and historic speeches......."I have a dream"..." that I will one day soon enter the Promised Land".......then the buggers [and this is not widely known to many other than me] deleted the most important wording in that speech.......'and the Promised Land is Campbelltown Sports Stadium'.

As we know he was assassinated soon after...he had prophesied his own death.
So...if he can see into the future re his own death, why wouldn't he also be right about C.S.S.

Campbelltown and the surrounding areas will "before too long" be the centre of the N.R.L. universe. In fact, there will be such a population explosion in the area "before too long" [there's those words outa dat song again] a second team will be needed and that team may well be the Wests Magpies. So the Wests Tigers will have to move quickly to strengthen the area so the Wests Magpies don't get in before US.

As @Elderslie_Tiger said, the Campbelltown area IS OUR FUTURE!!! :

This is my opinion, and I believe I am entitled to state it.
In the long run...it may never happen as the powers that be certainly know much more than I.

For all those that are bitterly opposed to my post, go ahead and let me know...get it of your chest and you will feel better that you have.

@cqtiger why would it change most of the clubs supporter base in Sydney and all its organisations are located in the inner and middle west of Sydney ...So why would you locate to the fringe area of the city ... because there is a lot of people moving there .
The club needs to stay where the money is end of story , if a BankWest stadium was built out there serious consideration probably would take place but until then staying in the heart land is the only option!

I heard Peter V'Landys talking to Ray Hadley today
and he said Sydney could do a few more Bankwest type Stadiums with a new A League franchise starting up and one of there backers being in the build game who knows

Just would like to see facts. The "population explosion" so far hasn't resulted in bigger crowds when we play there. You're also missing 1 major factor, Corporate sponsorship and facilities who somewhat subsidise the GA tickets.

Theres nothing stopping the cambo crowd from traveling up the road to anz. The tigers spend tonnes of time at schools and events in the area.

I think a junior academy with some COE like facilities is the best thing for cambo.

Sorry, I should have elaborated a bit on my post. So you need a combo of corporate precence and facilities. Maybe these two companies take 2 of the 6 boxes (or how ever many) at cambo, but it's extremely limiting.

The reason why ANZ works is that there are many different sports with many boxes where corporates can feel comfortable that there will be an event nearly every weekend that they can entertain clients at with good comfortable facilites. If you're trying to land a contract, dragging them to cambo ain't going to work. Same as Leichhardt.

It's a disappointing truth, but we need to look at these commercial aspects first and foremost. It's where most of the revenue comes from.

Maybe if the govt commits to a major stadium in cambo, that might change, but I can't see that in the near future.

I really can't see the government having the political capital to do so. Their existing spend was slammed, let alone spending more. It will be refurbs rather than bankwests if anything and Brookvale will probably be first cab off the rank.

Leichhardt was included in that mix also. So we wouldn't be able to turn our back on that if the govt pumped more money in.

Reading between the lines with V'Landys background in racing I think this Consumption Tax has been there but no one from NRL new what to do about it he keeps saying buckets of cash he wouldn't be saying it if it wasn't true thats how the improvements were made to race tracks because he got the Consumption Tax up and running so that the betting Agency paid a tax to use the race fields to bet on it produces millions for Racing NSW
