So what would happen if the jewish faith players decided they cant play on fridays because they go and pray on fridays. The momons are out on sundays and the christians faith decide sundays are out. Are we now going to accept plays deciding what days they are playing?

Its a team sport you know when you play what days games are on…seriously go play park footy and do what you like. Hes playing a professional sport aim up and be professional. Your club fans members and supporters expect it...

Canterbury coach Des Hasler and his captain James Graham are known for thinking outside the box - and so it is with Will Hopoate's decision not to play or train on Sundays due to his Mormon faith. The Bulldogs players respect his decision but … the grand final is on a Sunday. "That's been brought up," Graham told Triple M. "Last time we played on one, we got in trouble for coming out a bit late. Maybe we'll stay in the dressing rooms until midnight." The England star says there is no dissension over 23-year-old Hopoate's stance. "We're all aware of Will's position and everyone respects it. I've got the utmost respect for him. It's not come as a surprise."

With no training on Sunday as well, and presuming no travel thrown in for extras to be consistent then what about Monday games away from home?

Captain Graham states there is no dissension, what rubbish! World War 3 has broken out on Bulldogs Kennel, 23 pages in first 24 hours of the news.

The rumour at the time was thats why Parr. finally let him go(read,got rid of him),no Sundays,that cuts into recovery sessions as well,just too many conditions that other players could read as favoured treatment.
Interesting how the Bulldogs & NRL handle the situation now its out in the open without having to say he's injured every Sunday match.It has ramifications way past his religious beliefs if they allow a precedent to be set,bye bye Hoppa Jnr.

With all his conditions he wants to imply, it makes him very hard to be employable in this industry (NRL).

If your faith in strong enough, you do what is required, because you want to - you don't go looking for loopholes - then you would be a hypocrite.

I am sure it would be in the contract he signed - so therefore the Bulldogs would know of his requirements. If they make the GF then they will have to deal with it the same as the Bulldog supporters will have to - if it costs them the GF then maybe that is God's will.

Good on him for standing up for his faith - far too little of it these days in my opinion.

If the good Lord has his finger in sabotaging the Bulldogs in the GF then surely Tabsport etc should be notified at season beginning so that the Bulldogs odds of winning the GF are blown out accordingly. If this notification does not occur then it implies that God is happy with mug punters losing the shirt off their back.

Are you saying that God should put up a notification about this. Hardly. The people of the world have free will, it is up to them to find out if Hoppa is going to play or not should they reach a GF.

Think He has a few more things to worry about than notifying Tabsport.

True free will only comes with perfect knowledge. At the time of season's beginning it would be expected that the top players would play at every game barring injury or bans, not by excusing themselves out of the GF for extraneous reasons. As the decision not to play Sundays was only made into the season when many bets are already on and as this was a first for this player there is far from perfect knowledge available. Only an unjust god would permit/create such an injustice. If God does not concern itself with Tabsport then why would it concern itself with interfering with Bulldog losing the GF?

That is the point - God is not concerning Himself with the Bulldogs, The GF or Tabsport.

Plus the returns on the field weren't worth the other stuff. Also with Semi how much money can you put into wingers even if one of them thinks they can play fullback? It was a dud investment especially once Jennings fell into their hands.

He took TWO YEARS away from the game at a loss of probably 1-1.5 million. Over the limited timeframe he has to have that kind of earning capacity, that's massive money.

He knew the public furore this would cause,and the negative light it would cast him in.

Good on him for sticking to his beliefs and to his guns.

Having said that, if the Bulldogs make the Grand Final and he runs on the field to play that game, all respect garnered for him would be lost.

Wouldn't he have been compensated by the church ?
Obviously not to the extent of his lost earnings , but to take 2 years off to spread the word , surley he would have received some financial aid ?

Would the church take their 10% from that compensation?

This reminds me of that song "there is a hole in the bucket dear LIsa, dear Lisa". First it could be God''s will that Bulldogs lose the GF progressing to God is not concerning Himself with Bulldogs, FG or Tabsport?? I would assume that it was negotiated in his contract, so that would make every negative post here pointless.

I would keep Tedesco in the same scenario even if it meant him missing the grand final. You have a entire season to prepare for the grand final should you make it that far.

Why would the NRL care? Its not as if he is a marquee player anyway, if he was that would be the only thing even remotely of interest the NRL.

I'd be filthy if I was his teammate.
3 weeks in a row he'll be at training but won't be a part of the first 17\. He won't show up to recovery sessions or whatever they do on Sundays for the rest of the year. He may miss finals and possibly the GF.

They may be supporting his "brave" decision now but if they go on a losing streak or experience an injury crisis and have a perfectly fit and competent player sitting it out they'll turn.

Team sport is about forming a squad who have each others backs…who sacrifice for each other and for the success of said squad. He is letting them down and that is unacceptable as far as I'm concerned.

I just can't figure out why the Bulldogs would have signed him if they knew at the time that he was going to pull this out of the hat. I know for certain I wouldn't want my club signing someone with that weird condition being part of his contract.
Why did he wait until now to announce his decision? He has played on Sundays many times before in the NRL as well, strange strange decision all round IMO.

The dogs should dock his pay by 25% when they negotiate his next contract (2/8 games a week are Sundays, so on average he would miss 25% of games over an extended period) and he will change his tune, not because he is motivated by $, but the church of Mormon will give him "special dispensation" when they realise this will affect their bottom line.

Reminds me a bit of when Darren Beadman declared God had spoken to him and told him to become a preacher.
