How to beat Manly

Hey cunno, I think if we started a blue with Manly we'd get our arses kicked.

The team has been concentrating on completing their sets for the past two games and as a result turned two pretty ordinary efforts into wins. This has been in preparatiuon for these games coming up.

Lui MUST have help in defense as his technique and attitude is hopeless. He will be the target for sure.

**No running across field, the attack must be straightened. Manly just love hunting and smashing side ways runners. Quick play the balls and straight, direct attack can punch holes in their defense**.

Yes.
Penrith tried going wide with the long airy passes, Manly read it easily.
I think we need fast men up the middle, lots of short sharp passes up direct through the ruck

agreed, i would like to see us control possession, tire out the forwards. I see manlys weakness in their front row. Some smarter football, actually seems as though we know how to play smart football!! could the first 30 minutes have been a warning shot to the bigger teams?

i think we will see beau ryan in the forwards again this week. or utai might get a go? i would love to know if beau is getting some training at hooker.. even if its just passing fluidly from dummy half.

fast men up the middle, with short sharp passes through the ruck, that is something WTs used to do effectively but for some reason have stopped doing that, would be interesting to see if they try something like that again on Friday night as Manly's defence could become cumbersome around the ruck if put under that type of pressure.

Beau will play in the forwards not Utai. Utai cannot tackle and doesnt have the stamina to be effective in attack. Beau has been a tackling machine in the middle. Utai could not do this. We need strong kick returns from Utai followed by Lote or vice versa to start the sets off. Strong kick returns with quick play the balls. Then Galloway, Gibbs and Woods to share the next hit ups. Then more importantly a good kick chase.

I think you are right Stryker about plan B, but it would be great to see sauce let loose!!

Maybe we can turn back time for about 35 years and have a mixture of Wests and Balmain forwards for the first scrum . Blocker , Benny , Dallas Donnelly , Les Boyd , Sironen and Junior . Don't think we 'd lose that fight . :roll

Now that would be worth watching Happy.

We need to shut down Foran. He has the potential to run over Lui and Benji all day. Ive seen him score several trys this year where he has simply run over the opposing man, much like the game winner he scored on sunday. Need our big players to back up Lui and Benji in defence. THIS GAME WILL BE WON ON DEFENCE!!

Our biggest problem, and its the same most weeks, is getting enough yards when carting the ball back from our own line and thats why our kicking game is usually so poor. You cant apply the torch if you are gifting them field position every set.

Sheens needs to come up with a different game plan, maybe try lots of early spreads to try and run their big men around. Anyway was up their last year for the game and they owned us from the first minute, their is not a lot of love lost between the two teams so Manly will be up for this one.

Where we are at now, cant see us getting close, in a month or so time could be a lot different

Need 4 forwards on the bench.

Manly, Storm and St George are favourites to win the Grand Final.

Foran is a great player and needs to be watched.

When is the last time we have won at Brookvale?

Gibbs to the backrow to sit on Luis inside shoulder/ interchange with Payten
Fulton to occupy the Utility role
Woods to start
Groat to the bench
A. Schirnack as the lock interchange

That combination should mix it with them

We are playing at bluetongue friday night everett where we have a very good record but againest melbourne… Manly are due for a loss and could be vulnerable againest us if we finally click. tbh I dont think we have been playing that well our completions are great in the last two games but defence hasnt been that good if bowen was kicking better againest us totally differnt game and their winger did a daine laurei and dropped a sitter... againest the rooters they got robbed with the forward pass and in the first half those two tries we let in were soft....but if we lift it up another notch we will get them and 4 mobile forwards on the bench to tire out their big forwards. Not two wingers on the bench please

We need to do this every game, not just this game.
Every time we go wide too early, or too late(last tackles :brick: )

Also, Heighno please stop running into the markers.

out-enthuse the silvertails with willing defence, pressure cherry blossom and force them to a plan B .. cause dessie wont have one

These guys are beatable.

They are one dimensional. I don't buy the multi-faceted crap. Lyon only chimes in when he wants to, and Glenn Stewart only looks for his brother, and gets a hard on setting Brett up for a try.

Pressure on Cherry-Evans is a must. Every other team is making him look 10 feet tall by hanging off him. Gibbs, Fulton, Payten all massive pressure on his kicks.

Role Georgie Rose onto his back after EVERY tackle. That fat mong is like a turtle stuck on his shell when he has to get up quick. He'll eventually snap and give away a penalty or two.

Piss Steve Matai off - all things considered, we have two of the most placid natured centres in the game, however out of the two Ayshford is more likely to piss him off. Get Ellis running at him as well, since he's likely to get himself on report, or even better sin binned.

Hit Foran. Make this game a "Belt Foran Highlight Reel" again, dangerous if hung off.

Put Lawrence on Lyon - They will cancel each other out, however Lawrence late in the game can burn him for speed.

Glenn Stewart will be looking around the edges for runners, just make sure its Ellis' edge, and in classic Ellis style, wrap him up ball and all.

Staunch defense, whack their play makers, piss off Rose, Matai and Watmough (if he plays) and we can frustrate these clowns we can expose how one dimensional they really are.

If we do it right - Tigers by 12.

If we don't - Sea Eagles by…. well.. a lot....

CARN TIGERS!!!

Interesting, noticed that Tony Williams isn't playing for them this week - he destroyed us a couple of years ago scoring a massive try which left about half a dozen tigers players on the ground

Beatable I tells ya.

Wear the black and white strip. Both times we have beaten the scum we were in the magpie strip. Simple really.
