How to change a club in 12 months: Marina Go

I know plenty of fans would prefer we were more modest or that Marina Go remained silent. Considering we will be signing players in the upcoming months, I'm happy for articles painting us in a positive light.

Well, I think you've got the wrong slant on the article and Marina Go. I read NO smugness.

It is a good positive article on the Club, the coach, the players, the culture, the resolve, the commitment and the family values.

Nah better to have all the crap that has been written over the past five years.

All I’m saying is that for a long time we’ve been a basket case as a club, and all sudden after a couple of wins and a few good decisions by the management and the board we are falling over ourselves in praise - and Go is leading the self congratulatory charge ? Give me a break. I’ll get excited and full of praise after a few years of good management - not a few months.

I think youd be better off working on Luke Brooks's next destination than trying to have another go at the club on here.

If not then im sure Mitchell could use a little guidance right now.

Geez, Patriot. you're pretty fiery for someone who has just signed up.

Was thinking the exact same thing. Dale Carnegie- How To Win Friends and Influence People. An oldie but a goodie. Perhaps worth a read

yeah thanks i guess haha.

Nah the guy is a troll. If its not Isaac Moses its Benny Elias or someone of that ilk.

Sorry, but no. Not a troll. Not Benny Elias or Isaac Moses. If you are on the 2 major Facebook group pages, you’d know who I was as I’m a regular on there.
I’m feeling my way I’m here - but so far I’ve found this to be similar with its delusional people who cannot see an unbiased viewpoint if it was slapped across their face with a cold wet fish…..

My point is this. We’ve achieved nothing yet, and it wasn’t long ago that we were considered the biggest basket case in the league. Getting the club back to functioning “normal” is not an achievement. It were we should always be. Let’s stop with the congrats, and pats on the back, and all good feelings and smug smiles until WT actually does something worth congratulating themselves about - like making finals or turning a profit, or staying out of the headlines for bad reasons...

Nope, sorry…need more clues

Why cant people be happy with the club as it is currently?
Why do they have to wait til the end of the year?

However I do understand your skepticism and 'dont believe all you read' attitude, Im somewhat similar and I guess
due to past experience with this club, am trying not to get too far ahead of myself with optimism.

There are good signs ahead

Bobby, I think we need to celebrate each and every positive move made by the club whether it be a win, signing a better player to a position, increased membership, a good management call etc. It is these minor milestones that will assist us obtaining a top 8 spot, top 4 spot, grand final spot…
If you are just going to sit around waiting for grand final day, you are going to miss a helluva a lot of great memories in between. The way the club has turned itself around in the last 9 months in a fair achievement in my book. I am also happy to wear a smug smile with wins over Melbourne and the Roosters in the opening two rounds. Not having a go but you're missing out if you can't do the same.

I think there may be a change at Board level soon…

That was definitely the subtle point made in this article imo.

The part that I really loved and why I absolutely respect Ivan…...""I interviewed him and he interviewed me ""...

gotta love the guy....

Love the passion.
It’s been a strong start to the season. With what clearly is a totally different approach. A lot of people (including me) thought we’d be 0-5 in the first part of the season. After witnessing the effort put in my everyone involved , its a good time relate this new team and management against the WestsTigers of the last couple of years.

Agreed. And what's more fans and the media were so quick to judge management last year over the handling of the big four. They went off early and as it turns out the players involved were the real problem. So why not give them a bit of credit just as quickly.

On the field doesn't happen unless off the field is on the right track.

Knock it off.

The way I see it, our team has been on struggle street for years, safe to say since 2009/10\. So any small step forward, whether it be on or off the field, is something to celebrate in my eyes. You need to take these small opportunities to be excited because they are far and few, hopefully not for long - and that's exactly what we are celebrating right now, the fact that the Tigers are finally looking like they're moving forward.

Are we in a better situation off field than we have been in a number of years, if not ever in the JV history ? Yes.
Have we gone toe to toe with 3 premiership heavyweights in consecutive weeks and came out not only with respect but with reputation greatly enhanced ? Yes.
My point is though, is that this is where we should have been originally, and compared to most other clubs in the competition - we are now at their level.
This is not an achievement, it’s where we should be. Well run club, competitive on the field.
However, for some people, it’s like we’ve won the comp and we are the best run club in the world.
I’m also cynical enough to think, while it’s going good after 3 rounds, there is still a long way to go this year, and if there is one thing historically WT are good at, it’s cannibalising itself….

Hmmmm… talking yourself up, while putting others down. Any other clues on your A listing status? Eg, Do you refer to yourself in the third person or see yourself as a brand?
From the clues already given... Im going The Hayne Plane Or Bernard Tomic.

Gotta love Forum pissing contests

Definitely always a winner in those

Someone mentioned subtle changes in the board , would that include the Wests /Balmain set up and /or a change with the NRL independent influence ??

I don't know mate, a lot of people could see that the management has been strong for the past few years. I know my posts have always been that way.

The way they dealt with Farah lobbing grenades into the club was exceptional. I don't think I could have bit my tongue the way they did.

The speed in which they uncovered and fixed the cap issues had to be commended. The board rightly got rid of Mayer and put better managers in charge.

They've built a seemingly decent proposal for a COE with little to no funds, raised membership dramatically during turbulent years as well as the sponsorship money. Particularly a good move to replace Harry T as major sponsor to offer arm length 3rd party deals.

Ok, the coaching appointments might not have worked out well. But honestly, they probably picked the best options available to them at the time. We got lucky with Cleary.

We're also about to reach breakeven - I have absolutely no idea how they did that with the level that the team was performing at. That is amazing for an NRL club that has very little assets.

I think the problem is you've been reading too much of the telegraph. You realise that creating drama sells papers right? That they have motives to embellish on issues. They're also in the pockets of agents, so if you have an Ayoub or Issac Moses lobbing grenades, there's not much a club can do besides try to take the high ground - and that's what they did.

Marina rightly deserves praise. It's been a long road to get where we are. The wins are just the icing on the cake.

Change in Chairmanship on the cards…

Board structure to remain the same but with the last restructure the Chair doesn't need to be an Independent...
