HSC advice

Kul already said it - passed papers. That goes for your uni exams too.

If I have been told correctly the HSC exams don't have as much weight as they used to as now quite rightly the use some results from the previous years work.

So really by exam time half the work should be done with most of the knowledge ingrained.. But if you find your coming up a bit short, cram in the last 3 years papers and make the questions almost memorised.

Good luck

Your HSC exams may seem like the most important thing in the world to you right now, and depending on what happens in your future a good result could directly influence some positive things, but they aren't the only doorway to a happy future, nor are they a guarantee even if you do do well. I didn't finish year 11 and I am cutting a 6 figure pay check in a professional services role as a self taught non educated person and I am only 29\. You can navigate life without an awesome HSC result.

Don't get me wrong though. I only tell you this to calm you down not demotivate you. Don't let it get to you. Give it your best shot, but just remember it's not going to make or break your life. The result isn't going to change a hell of a lot based on much that you do between now and D-Day. (It might be the difference between an 80 or an 83 because you can pattern to memory some answers that end up on the paper…) The real work has been done over the past 12 years of your life. If you've put in the work, building good study habits and learning, then you'll do well. If not, your best bet is to chill and just do your best without driving yourself mad over it.

I remember my last exam. It was terrible. I sat in the big hall and put my packet of polos on the desk, and my spare pencil and my support gonk and my chewing gum and my extra pen, and my extra polos and my lucky gonk, and my pencil sharpener shaped like a cream cracker and three more gonks with a packet of polos in each, and lead for my retractable pencil and my retractable pencil, and my spare lead for my retractable pencil, and chewing gum and pencils and pens and more gonks and the guy said "Stop writing please."

Just kidding. Like others have said, do what you can but don't stress too much. HSC is just one way of getting where you want to go. I didn't get the marks I needed for my course, so did something else. Then, after my first year, I transferred over.

My Advice Sag is dont stress it too much.

Not bragging at all.

I didnt do as well as I wanted back in 1992.

Got myself a kick ass career, 6 bedroom home and two many kids at private school.

What ever you do have courage, listen to those older than you and work flippen hard.

My oldest son did his HSC in 2014, youngest one doing it next year.

All you can is is your best, and don't have un realistic expectations of your result and the impact that your school can have on your individual ATAR.

Good luck and best wishes to all doing HSC this year.

Just remember it's not the be all and end all Swaggy.

There's other options in life, I did well all the way throughout school and I burned out in the last year. Got reasonable HSC scores but not nearly anything that would allow me to go on to uni and study anything worthwhile. I ended up getting a trade and went back to school for engineering qualification and now live comfortably.

I should clarify Swag that I don't mean to say that you should not to give it your all, or to slack off, but don't send yourself into a mental wreck thinking that your life is over if you don't do well.

Hear stories every year about kids who are driven to severe depression over the fear of failure around HSC time. In retrospect I can say that it is seriously not worth it.

Try your best. No point studying hard if it's in a few weeks. Revise your notes etc.

This is a good time in your life to reflect on which subjects you excel at, so in a few years when you decide to choose a vocation which is truly fulfilling to your life you can look at the subjects at high school which you enjoyed and excelled the most.

You don't want to be like 90% of the population who (me included) loathe their jobs. Remember to rest and relax after the exams are over too, even travel. Travel and do some more personal growth.
